A tale of two days. Thursday, fished 9 hours, from Old Hwy 86 to almost point 5. Weather was cloudy AM, cleared around noon, little to no wind. Caught 2 keepers and 2 shorts in 9 hours. Best keeper was a 19" smallie that just lunched on a crankbait. Why it was the only one willing I don't think I'll ever understand. I fished mainly main-lake stuff that day covering many locations that were very good to me last year at this time.
Friday, fished from KC to Cow area with new-found friend, Dave, from SD. We were pre-fishing for the BBC midwest rally on Sat. Weather was cold, heavy overcast with occasional rain, and a strong norfer front that blew through mid-afternoon. The fish were on fire. The difference in their attitude from Thursday was simply amazing. Dave and I said the heck with the tournament and just pounded as many as we could. It was easy fishing, the kind of day that mid-winter dreams are made of. The majority came on cranks including the gal shown below. She went 23" and 6.56 lbs. Caught her almost at the back of a pocket with water temp showing 52. I'm very happy that we caught 'em on Friday as we struggled hard yesterday with the post-front conditions. We weighed 4 for 13.9 lbs, winning sack was 17.7.
Thanks Dave for a couple of very enjoyable fishing days. Good luck returning to snow country.
