    Vernon,

Did you play on the KU team with Rueben Shelton?  He became a lawyer and I worked for him when he was at the electric utility in St. Louis.  Last I heard he was working for Monsanto in St. Louis.

I remember him but think he was a little after me.  I think he came in around '75?  I can remember playing pickup games with him in the summers after I'd left.  My freshman class was Dale Greenly, Rick Suttle, Tommy Smith, Marshall Rodgers and Mike Fidelke.  Fidelke only played two years but was a really good golfer and made the switch after his sophomore year.

Marshall Rodgers transferred to Pan American after his sophomore year and led the nation in scoring his junior and senior years.  He left because Ted Owens wanted him to draw charges instead of shooting.

After going to the Final Four the previous year, the varsity was pitiful my freshman year.  Bud Stallworth and Tommy Kivisto were pretty much it.  Only won about 10 games if I remember right.  Made it back to the Final Four my junior year but I had transferred out by then.  Not a smart move at the time but young and stupid ya' know?

Brady Morningstar's dad Roger was on that'74 team if you remember him.  Also Danny Knight, Norm Cook and Donnie Von (Ugly) Moore along with the guys from my freshman class.

Thanks for the note though!  Kind of a little trip down memory lane.

Rueben always talked about his KU days.  He was very proud being a Jayhawk.  Even though he was from Missouri. KU basketball has certainly been a force. One of the few teams out there that still shoots the ball and doesn't rely on dunks all the time.  Exciting to watch.

      Mike
