  1. I'm a big fan of bladed jigs. I make my own and a local tackle store even carries them. Some of my favorite trailers are a Berkley Havoc Pit Boss 4" or Devil's Spear 4", or Rage Menace. I like to rig all of them sideways (vertical instead of horizontal), to make the tail flap more like a fish and to allow the trailer to work with the bait instead of against it. Like this. Then hopefully they end up like this
  2. That COG buzzbait got my biggest bass of the year so far last week. It just barely got it though.
  3. I fish with a small group of guys on little lakes around the KC area and we do kind of like the MLF style except it's still your biggest 5. Much easier on the fish that way and it has allowed guys in johnboats and even 2 mans to fish with us on occasion. "Releasing" dead or dying fish makes us all look bad.
  4. It's not a beautiful sunset, but I had this crazy wall cloud go flying by as I was fishing last Thursday. I don't think I've ever seen a wall cloud moving faster than this one.
  5. Great looking fish, your friends meanmouth is a really well colored fish!
  6. Already saw a report of fish being caught on one. I've never had any luck on double buzzers though, but I'll probably still end up with one I'm sure.
  7. This made me laugh because I "released" a pair of braid scissors a few weeks ago. I'd actually just finished tying a bait on, snipped my line, toss the bait in the compartment where the scissors go and threw the scissors over the side
  8. I had a guy on Truman that was really worried about the condition of his fish and kept opening the lid to check them. Warned him they'd jump out and sure enough, he opened that lid and one did the exact thing that smallie did, except it went right over the side instead of the back. Glad it was his fish that jumped out and not one of mine. I wait until the boats in the parking lot to get my fish if possible.
  9. Black is a good all around color for me that really seems to have lost favor with most anglers.
  10. Not at all. I wear a buff, gloves, and a long sleeve sun shirt. I thought it would be hot as well but it actually keeps me cooler than I am in a t-shirt and shorts. Plus you can dip it in the water occasionally when it's really hot out, although I've heard that reduces the sun protection somehow. I'm what I affectionately like to call "neon white", I get burned if the moon is too bright while I'm night fishing. I'm not confident in getting sunblock everywhere my skin is exposed, especially the bends and folds of my ears, lips, backs of my arms, ect. I also buzz my hair and anyone that's ever burnt their scalp can tell you, it sucks. It's about impossible to cover it with sunblock, and a hat can only cover so much of my oversized dome. I know several guys, some of them not even that old, missing big chunks from their arms, face, one that's missing a good portion of his ear, it's not a good look. I bet Ol' Mark Davis wishes he'd worn one his whole career so he didn't have to wear a big bandaid on his lip. I know it's not the best look, my wife thinks I look ridiculous (which doesn't just go for when I'm going fishing honestly), but I'm going to do what I can to protect myself so this sport I love so much doesn't end up killing me.
  11. That's awesome! I took my 2.5 year old son fishing a few weeks ago and he caught a bunch of sunfish and had a blast. Now almost every day I get the "You take me fishing daddy?" Hopefully he's hooked for life like I already was at a very young age.
  12. Thanks fellas. Times like these it's always good to hear that there's folks out there that appreciate what we do and realize that the vast majority of the men and women in law enforcement are good people trying to do the right thing in an increasingly hostile environment.
  13. They're in a private lake/pond. The guy has a ton of videos feeding these monsters shad, it's pretty awesome viewing.
  14. Big Ol' Sewer Bass. I always snag the dang things early in the year on traps fishing the shallow flats on the lakes around here.
  15. Price dropped to $180 each plus shipping. These are stainless steel props.
  16. I have 2 spare props I'd like to sell, both Mercury Laser II props. Both came with my boat when I bought it. The 19 was on the boat, which had less than 10 hours and I'm assuming was on the boat the entire time. I took the 19 off and put the 24 on and that's what I've been running until last week when I replaced it with a new Tempest. RH rotation, came off a '12 150 Pro XS. 19 is nearly perfect, 24 has less than 100 hours and no major marks or nicks that I can find. Pictures provided on request. $200 each plus shipping.
  17. Your brother in law might want to put in for his new state record. Flathead Catfish 80 lbs 0 oz Loup Power Canal - near Genoa, William Swanson, 6/14/1988
  18. Sounds like a great trip. You got lucky with those hooks, that's an easy one to get out and go right back to fishing.
  19. Don't overlook copper or painted blades in clear water either. The coleslaw color War Eagle is a killer on cloudy days. I think it's just not something they see often.
  20. I know Ken a little bit from speaking with him on the water and while he's at work at the BPS in Olathe. He confirmed it was Paho and said it wasn't a big deal, they were just unaware of whatever law they were breaking.
  21. He's the highest earner in BASS history with over 6 million in winnings. I bet he's made at least double that in sponsorship deals.
  22. Count me in that group, but I'm a Savage Gear junkie so take that fwiw. Speaking of fish will eat anything;
  23. I have an Okuma RTX 25 on my drop shot rod and like it really well. I found it online for $75 shipped for free. Very light weight and I like the higher speed retrieve (6.0:1 and 6.6 oz). If I was going to get a Pfluegar under $100 I'd go with a President. A buddy of mine has gone through 2 President LE's, both of them had problems with the knobs coming off the handle. They replaced the first one but wanted him to pay for the handle with the second one so he sent it back to get himself an Okuma too. I have several Presidents though and haven't had any issues with them, they're just a little heavier.
  24. My Big Game Prowler II is rated 550-600 pounds. I'm 220 and take my 70lb Golden Retriever plus my gear in it and feel like it could hold plenty more.
