  1. Saw lots of wrapped trucks heading that way yesterday. Ouachita is tough right now...very muddy. But if it clears up and stays high it could be a slug fest. Theres also two other smaller lakes that don't get much attention but can be outstanding at times. Lake Catherine which is below Hamilton and Lake Greeson
  2. Fin and feather in Springfield used to carry a beaver style bait. 25 pack for $5-6
  3. When a pure strain LM is bred with a pure strain LM, all that you can get is more pure strain LM.
  4. Instincts and experience based on what?Incomplete scientific research? Everyone uses the scientific method in some form or fashion...fisherman especially so, otherwise the fishing industry would be broke. Do fishermen not try to gain more information by trying different techniques? Sounds awfully scientific...and maybe it's called fishing not catching because it's incomplete science.
  5. Chris knew, yet his scientific research was incomplete until he set sail. Science, incomplete and complete predates all of us...
  6. Most Europeans believed the world was flat...long standing belief...Chris changed their minds Don't care to know everything about fish, but just to dismiss someone's hard work because it doesn't fit your mold of what you believe, isn't being too smart. It's ok if you don't want to learn about different behaviors of fish, but it's not your call to tell others what they should want to learn or not. If you fish, you're a scientist...it's called trial and error
  7. If each lake/river is unique, you might assume each fish is unique as well. Some go back home, some adjust to new area. The only way to have complete science is to continue to study the incomplete. There have been many long standing beliefs debunked by incomplete science. Some guy named Chris debunked one a long time ago based on incomplete science, the Earth really wasn't flat. You could easily assume that a "roaming hog" has been misplaced by a younger more aggressive bass, there are many reasons a fish might leave it's preferred area. This is why generalizations are made. I'm really hope your belief that incomplete science being worse than none is based on studies like these.
  8. Supposed to be announced today
  9. 10 cents for ONE cricket?!? I've got $10k in my front yard

    Graphs

I believe they are a valuable tool for those who have the time to take them out and learn how they work. For me if I have time to be on the water I'm fishing, not idling around looking at a graph. Just my preference... I do know a pro that grew up fishing in river oxbows that has taken the time last few years to learn ins and outs of graphs, and I believe that knowledge has made him a force on TVA lakes. He was never in contention before on those waters.
  11. Easy...wouldn't want to be considered as stirring the pot
  12. Seems every thread with more than a hand full of replies ends up to be about some dude named Ned who wears a jersey, can't operate a boat safely, and wants everyone to practice catch and release while he secretly eats a few keeper bass he catches...
  13. My hypocrisy only goes so far
  14. It's the logo, top left of the page.
  15. Interesting read in BASS this month "on the hook" page
  16. She wore a yellow ribbon
  17. Odd thing to me is the groups that scream tolerance the loudest are the least tolerant...
  18. Yeah, I hear ya... My friend and his son got educated real good, both have bullet holes to remind them of it everyday. Lucky to be alive
  19. When you or someone close to you gets shot on the water because of a dispute, you realize voicing your opinion on the matter means nothing... If someone doesn't think it's wrong to pull in that close, they don't care what your opinion is anyway
  20. I agree not many people, if any, travel to other states for subsistence level fishing. But if you don't believe there's not a lot of that happening, you might wanna take a ride on Hwy 65 from Pine Bluff, AR to Greenville, MS. It may not happen much in your area or TR, but I see 100s most times I drive through the delta. I know you didn't mean harm in your words, I just hate blanket statements. Hunting and fishing put meat on the table for me when I was in college and just out getting started. I went to bed many times hungry because I didn't catch any. Was I unethical for keeping every legal fish I caught back then? I'm sorry if you can't understand you, me, and Al Linder live in a very different world than many, and have the luxury of choosing "higher" ethical standards. Sective harvest isn't for everyone everywhere.
  21. Sorry, the smarta$$ in me couldn't resist
  22. If we all died how would the funeral homes benefit? They're all dead...
  23. Although I respect your ethics, mine are different. Placing a blanket ethical judgement on a choice of what to keep or not isn't my place, nor yours. No matter the species. I understand your beliefs in selective harvest and practice the same methods most of the time. Not everyone that wets a line has that luxury.
  24. That's an awesome idea, especially when you can fish unlimited days of the year. Maybe the 28# pike was the only fish the guy caught? Not everyone that wants to eat fish has the choice of selective harvest.
  25. Aren't walleye and trout stocked because they don't have successful spawns? If they were as successful as bass in the spawn there wouldn't be a need
