  1. That stretch gets pounded. Some weird features too. Think water comes out of old lead mines up their, looks like a spring seep but it turns the bottom orange in a couple spots. Al A could clarify. Glad you had a nice day off. Would not eat anything on that stretch.

    What's Cooking?

If not willing to fail, you will never learn new things. If you don't like it toss it, then try again. Mess up a few, add a T's of salt instead of t's, etc.
  3. The crowds do tend to still them up a bit. Have had some great days with tons of folks out. Think of all the food that they still up. Look for out of the way pockets next to a swimming hole.
  4. The crowds can be relentless...Huzzah Valley & Ozark Outdoors have thousands of boats, would get on really early, take a nap and enjoy the show, then finish up late. Have always done well with anything brown & down, flukes (pink, glimmer blue, pearl with chartreuse tail), or topwater. Tan Clousers, Sparkleminnows, and a size #2 Sneaky Pete if you fly fish.

    What's Cooking?

Have not tried smoking pickles or potatoes but s/b easy enough when doing something else. Gonna try both. Worst case, out a jar of pickles, and a sack of potatoes, but probably not.

That potatoe salad sounds good. Will have to try that for a small BBQ. Ranch dressing, green onions, bacon, and season salt, is our usual potatoe salad dressing when we have a crowd over. Quick, Easy, and delicious. 1lb of cooked bacon & 2 bunches of green onion for every 5lbs of potatoes.
  7. think the last good read was "Oregon Trail". Two brothers, two mules, pioneer wagon, start in MO end in OR, along the old trail or interstate. What could go wrong😀
  8. Never made it through Earth is Enough. Starlight Creek was enough, a buddy made a copy of it at the library of congress. Used to have it in PDF format but lost track of it. Like Tom McGuane's stuff. 92 in the shade, and the Sporting Club are really good. Traver's short stories are favorites.
  9. I usually don't keep fiction books. Just read them, then give away. See a couple matches on your shelf.
  10. Vaca with the kids, fishing not a priority, but we will do some.
  11. Headed up in July, can anyone offer advice?
  12. I do not want eliminate someone else's fun, but recommended a shorter season and more enforcement. Don't start the gigging season until rifle deer season is over. No chance of enforcement until most of the deer tags are filled.
  13. Looks like fun! Good for you, and thanks for the report. That flathead sounds like a nice surprise!
  14. Westover purchased allot of property below the bridge several years ago. Easiest way to access is to pay the daily rod fee. Think its $55. Watch out for the electric fence.
  15. It was new 20yrs ago, but they should stop that. Folks who compile that nonsense can do something else.
  16. Think it comes from MSU. Making Stuff Up.

That looks great! Figure a regular bechamel sauce would turn to glue in a smoker. Substitute with processed cheese and oil makes sense. Lamb dinner went well. Trussed them up to cook evenly, Got Martha to agree to peel all the potatoes for an hour of IPad. Guests loved it! One brought mint jelly(barf) but nobody else used. What she wants, I don't care.
  18. Thanks for helping some youngsters learn new skills. Not involved with BSA, but if you know A. Bishop in Jeffco, he is a friend of mine.
  19. Dont over cook wild fowl. It can go from delicious to dog food quickly.

    What's Cooking?

Thawed out a leg o lamb today, boned it out, all the fat & silver skin gone. Ended up with 3 good muscle cuts and a couple dinners for the dog. Resting in a Greek style marinade with lots of lemon over night. Will do with some potatoes, etc for guests tomorrow. Thick cut pork steaks this evening, beans & green salad. Used off the shelf blues hog rub & their original sauce. Wife & Kids loved it. A tad too much sugar/sweet for me, wanted a bit more heat, but results great for off the shelf. Pork Candy.
  21. Did he get you with those spurs? LOL. Nice job!
  22. We usually toss that on a Schedule C. Just limit it to $0 if a loss and no complaints from the service. Claim a loss they might want a look. Would do differently if you are making some real money.
  23. Would limit a few of those for personal use, but no problem signing a return with those deductions on it.
  24. Still small in Shannon. Like the small ones better on my plate though. Think next week looks great with the weather.
  25. You will find them. Woods just gotta be right. Chants are good, easy to find in Oak/Hickory woods. Kinda random for morels, gotta find the X. Can vary from year to year. Some spots fire, others won't. Cottons have been good. Cut another pound today. Still Small.
