  1. Glad they have started. That concrete road was an eyesore.

    What's Cooking?

My Dutch Oven's get jacked up more than my skillets. I just toss them in the oven on self clean overnight, then re-season.

    What's Cooking?

Nice skillets...have similar to both of those in the black iron collection. What do you use to season? Have had great results with flax seed oil.
  4. It can be good anytime, but best time for big fish is usually before dawn until the sun hits the water or in the evening when its low. The dawn bite is usually the most consistent. It can be incredible if your lucky enough to be there when a big front moves in, and its usually good daytime fishing if the water is on a slow rise or up and stable. Caddis & L. Cahill action can be good in the spring, Trico & terrestrial fishing can be good in the fall, BWO or small caddis in the winter months, you can usually expect some caddis if you get a couple nights in a row above freezing during the winter months. Fun for mid-day dinking, with an occasional surprise.
  5. Cub Suck?
  6. Sounds like you did pretty well considering the low water. Current usually gets stocked with small Browns in mid to late September and it takes awhile for things to get sorted out. Usually fish down there at least 10 days a year. 1-2 days will be outstanding, 1-2 decent, and on the rest you need to work to catch fish. Timing is everything.

    Whatchya Drinking?

Rock Hudson was a closeted homosexual. Lee Marvin, very doubtful. Not that it matters. Have several LGBT folks in the extended family and I get along fine with all but one of them...The one is a self-centered jerk. Someone to avoid be they straight or gay.

    What's Cooking?

Did some Spanish Bean Soup yesterday. Turned out well. 1/2lb of dried chick peas soaked overnight, ham bone, plus ham scraps, 2 Q water. Boil & skim foam for about an hour. Add 1/4lb fried salt pork and lightly sautéed onion at that point along with 1/2T of good Spanish or Hungarian Sweet Paprika and a pinch of saffron. Cook & skim till beans are tender. Add some peeled and chopped taters. Adjust salt...did not need any, Slice a dried chorizo in thin rounds and drop in at the end.
  9. Browns tend to bite when weather is in transition. Glad you got some!
  10. Thanks for the report. Love the scenery on that float. East Gate on the Piney down to the G nade too. Did that one in about 8 hours on a 90+ degree day with Al A, Coldwater, and a guy named Jeremy from Joplin once. Was an excellent misadventure.
  11. Might get a couple in during November, then the usual 3-4 day trip in January. 11pt & Current in November. Current in January. Did Pulltite to Round Spring two weeks ago. Fishing was poor (usually is) but was a nice family float.
  12. Have not checked the persimmon seeds yet, but would check...if you are looking for other folk lore indicators.
  13. Dunno, maybe reel down and sweep set to the side at a good angle to the fish? Have the same trouble with fly rod tarpon. Can usually get one to eat the candy, but they usually leave me before they get to the boat. Still fun!
  14. The double wire will button them up better than the loop. You might want to look up how to stupid rig a tube also. Not saying you are stupid, but that is another way to rig one weedless on a no weed guard hook. I never buy fishing rods off the shelf, but am a big fan of Batson & MHX's lower price point blanks.

    Whatchya Drinking?

My buddy likes good tequila. Has 20-30 bottles of the aged sipping varieties and some batch mescal also. Usually go with a good quality silver for Matgaritas. Don't like Cuervo Gold or similar, but the good ones have a ton of flavor varieties. Aged rums are good too. Like Pyrat & Ron Zacayapa. In Vodka...Tito's. Found it at Ed's in Steelville years ago before it was available in St. Louis.
  16. The Spothanded and the Golden are the most common on the streams I fish regularly. Goldens like the willow weed and shallows. Spot hands will be a bit deeper on rock or wood. Would not fish the trout water on the Eleven Point without something in my box that does not resemble a Coldwater Craw.
  17. Nice shot! Right in the wheel house! You can't eat Antlers.

    Whatchya Drinking?

Drink a bit of everything. Craft brew and wine mostly. My wife is a wine drinker and I'll have a beer or a cocktail after work, glass of wine at dinner, and a glass of wine when the kids go to bed. Used to drink copious quantities of Scotch, Bourbon, Vodka, and Craft Brew, and Lawnmower beer. Still do occasionally. Just got home, cooking dinner over 2 fingers worth of Woodford.
  19. Very Nice!
  20. Do vote for prop 1 (State Park Funding) and for prop 4 (limit on new sales taxes). I don't care about the others much. Missouri's state tax rates are not as bad as Illinois or Northeastern state tax rates, but there is a reason why Tennessee and Texas are kicking Missouri's tail in terms of economic growth.
  21. MDC used to have a nice crawfish page. Their are a bunch of different species and the like different depth & habitat. Some are only found in certain areas on different streams & lakes. Think those big long pincers are a Tablerock only thing. Would be good idea to know where they like to live.
  22. Good for you! Nice looking fish!
  23. Good for you! Have another burleigh bike trailer if interested. Plus the wheel and stroller bar.
  24. Plenty of money to be made right now. You will never make real money collecting a wage from someone else, but the banks are lending and there is money to be made if you are willing to take some risk.
  25. Think I'd do Moon Valley to Cat Hollow, or Moon Valley to Bennett instead. The mile above Bennett doesn't seem to hold many fish.
