Summer moving water smallies is a top water game. Usually have 5 rods in the canoe. Walker, buzzer, fly rod popper, fluke rod, & a jig rod. Better fish usually hit on or near the top, or on the bottom. Dinks own the middle, mostly.

Those fish are easy if you don't spook them. If you see them you are done. Plan your approach, sneak up, and make your first cast count. Stay out of the water as much as possible, and don't flog spooked fish. Move after 3-4 casts with no fish.

Best choice is to rent a canoe and get away from the access points. Plenty of rentals down there and it's the best way to cover water and see the sights.

I do like fishing big stuff better, but it's a great bait to have when the fish aren't very active. They always eat it, so I use it to find a pattern when my search baits are not working. The feeding lamp can light up anytime, so have other candy ready to select for bigger fish.

I've never found one before March 28th, or after April 25th in STL. Looks like the makings of a late short season.

4' is a good level but not for wade fishing. Crossing is not an option in most spots. Gotta have a boat, should be good now, it drops fast.

This State rep needs to go earn a meager living someplace else. When is he up for election? Who is the opponent? Viewed his Facebook state page. He is a walking contradiction. Seems to like shooting deer but he hates MDC. Likes Monster Trucks and America too! Seems like this guy has passion but he has no big picture. Does what the farm bureau and big ag tells him to.

Like them both. Usually catch more smallmouth on the Piney, fewer fish but better average size on the gascy. You will want a boat to cover some water. Usually use Route 66 canoe for the confluence area, but lay-z-day& Boiling Springs are good options as well. Not sure about what FLW has to offer to the folks on base, but I would bet that you could check out a boat from base recreation. Always wanted to float through FLW on the Piney. Ross to Eastgate but have not done it yet.

It's not hard if you know how stocked fish behave. They tend to suspend instead of hug bottom and they look up for food. Keep your candy at our slightly above their level and drift it naturally and darn near anything will work. Fish below them and you won't get a bite. The fresh ones are conditioned to look up for food. Use it to your advantage.

Missouri has some plain and simple rules when compared to some states. Look at fish regs up North or out West. Cinderella fishing hours and temporary stream closures out west. They could be better, but they could be much more complicated.

I have a couple dozen spools of silk thread left if you want to add some color. Silk thread comes in a variety of sizes. Pearsalls Gossamer is super thin and hard to handle...usually used YL100 instead and it will still clear out easily with spar varnish. Its a tad thinner that most Size A silk or nylon. The thinner threads clear out better than the larger sizes, and a thinner finish penetrates the thread better. Do some wraps on an old blank our dowel and perform a few finish tests with spar varnish & epoxy before you apply to your new rod. Good luck.

Northfork Composites has some 6'6" casters in their Mag Bass lineup. I've been thinking of pulling the trigger on one. I built one of their 5'6" cast bass blanks a year or two ago for fishing walking baits out of my canoe and I really like it. Still want to do a little more looking before I decide.

Thanks. I've tossed it on on old... 1990 era MH casting setup but not easy with 1/8oz. Have a couple ideas for blanks. My kids do well with custom 5'6" light actions & spin casters. Will ask Mitch.

Did not make it out of state in 14. Some great day floats on the Black & Big Piney though. Piney best with 3 hours of solid top water fly action.

FET has a couple twists to it and small biz taxpayers rarely understand their tax compliance burden. Sales tax, payroll, excise, income, personal property, 1099's, etc. Every business is a bit different depending upon the jurisdictions that are involved. Advice is worth what you pay for it. Engage a good accountant and let them figure it out for you. Tax compliance is not easy!

You ever toss one on a caster? Been thinking of a build. Hate spinning tackle. Fly rod or bait caster preferred.

Guess they don't need to make money off it right now. Pretty small potatoes operation, they might have bigger fish to fry.

Sounds good folks. I've been working a lot so I haven't done any significant cooking. Did do some crab legs wiith rice pilaf and creamed spinach for the gals this weekend. Waiting for the temps to climb a bit...have 12 racks of baby backs, a couple pork butts, and a brisket to smoke, plus two pork bellies to cure and smoke for some home made bacon. Might do the pork bellies up tonight and cold smoke them this weekend.

That creek is pretty small. Maybe 150 CFS worth of flow on the lower end. Often not floatable in the upper reaches. I'm sure that a Riverpro could run it, but why? It's a short haul to ramps up our downstream on the Big.

Looks good but kinda small. There are plenty of 3-5" long minnows in our rivers & creeks.

Have 4 Thule low riders, a 48" round bar, 72" round bar, and 8 load stops that I want out of the garage. Should clamp to any vehicle with factory rails. Was on top of my Jeep for 10-12 years, still good. $75 pick up in STL. Does not work on my current ride(pickup).
