    What's Cooking?

Will grill it but it's indifferent. We used to make 20-30 orders of fried zucchini at the Italian place I used to cook for. Still on their menu. Pair with a good marinara and some fresh grated Parmesan.
  2. Can carry 2-3 more rods in the canoe. 3 seems to be the comfortable limit in my Coosa. Rodhder stick up in back and they restrict the range of my back cast occasionally. Works fine with two on deck and one in the left rear rod holder.

    What's Cooking?

Must suck if you own a pickup truck;)! Zucchini isn't bad if you cut it into 3/8" fries. Egg wash, flour, egg wash, Italian bread crumbs, deep fry at 350 until golden brown.
  4. Saw this on Facebook. Think the Commission will vote to take his privileges away...not that he will stop , but his fines will increase in the future.
  5. Good for you! Looks you might have a dock light or several nearby. Would hit those for Jacks, Snook, & Tarpon before sun up. Ask the fellows at the bait shop about the tides. Fish move and eat when the tide moves in and, not so much on slack tide. Paddle into the tide, cast upstream, and drift your candy downstream.
  6. Fish wont be able to read that...I suggest you give them to your fishing buddies, and keep the good ones for yourself.
  7. Walking baits and cranks for relatively open water, Buzzbaits, flukes and jigs for cover. Topwater can be great anytime, not just early and late. . .
  8. You cant cut live wood in the ONSR, but deadfall is free for the taking. Anything smaller than 4-5" gets grabbed up pretty quickly, so I bring a folding bucksaw or skip the fire all together.
  9. Red Bluff is a pretty spot. Good place for kids to swim and catch tadpoles in the summer time, but fishing is not great. Lots of little bass, but not many over 10". Watch for snakes. Friends daughter got zapped by a Copperhead down there. Near dark, while walking back to camp from swimming. She didn't see it and stepped on it I think. Bit her in the leg. Think you will be fine mid-week. Would call Huzzah Valley before your trip.
  10. Bring a saw. Hard to find firewood on the Jacks when you need it. It's warm enough. Ditch the hammock gizmo. Thermarest, tarp, and a light blanket s/b all you need till October.
  11. Would like to see it too.
  12. Shovel will work for poop too.
  13. Usually use high vis yellow or chartreuse braid with a rod length leader when spin fishing for just about anything...Trout, or bass mostly. Makes no difference as long as you have a leader. 6-9 foot is enough if spin fishing. 7-18' needed if fly fishing. Fly line smacks down pretty hard in comparison to conventional stuff.
  14. Guess that people prefer props and jet boats...I did see one on the middle Meramec around Sappington Bridge a couple years ago. Incredibly loud, and it through a huge wake. I'm glad they aren't popular.
  15. Would probably use Two Rivers Canoe and have them put you in at Cedargrove so you don't have to drag all your stuff over the low water bridge at Cedargrove...Its about a 48 mile float down to Two Rivers with plenty of options to resupply with ice and food at Akers, Pulltite, Round Spring, and Two Rivers. There isn't any place to resupply between Two Rivers and Van Buren but you could stage some vehicles along the way if you wanted to be able to resupply on the lower river. Should be a good trip. Pretty easy to do 10-12 miles a day without much paddling. Fewer people, but more jet boats to contend with on the lower river.
  16. Did same with 6 couples and 13 kiddos along. Nice smallie, sure looks like fun!
  17. We were there this weekend...They seemed disorganized, but made it through the weekend. Former owner ran a much tighter ship, but all in all not a bad weekend. Floated Mason to Slabtown Friday with my buddy Mike...Fishing slow, maybe 15 bass, Mike's best 17" on a baby brush hog, my best 16" on a spinnerbait. Did not fish Saturday...Water came up 3' or so overnight...did not look like it would be fun with no gravel bars, and too dangerous for the kids to swim. Did a hike and ran some folks over to the upper current. River looked better Sunday...but very crowded. Packed a cooler and took the kids to Paddy Creek CG for a swim...Perfect choice! Packed up and drove home today. River still had some murk to it, but looked OK.....Had a pretty good lunch at the Maid-Rite in Rolla. Loose meat burgers, fried chicken, and frozen treat kinda place with a homemade Vanilla Cream Soda. Will be stopping there again.
  18. Good for you...B. Piney looked like it would be no fun and slightly dangerous on Saturday AM, so we ran a couple folks over to the upper Current. Very crowded @ Montauk, Tan Vat & Baptist...looked like outfitters from the lower river were running Baptist to Cedar because the river was closed downstream. Water was up about 6" or a 1' but looked to be in great shape. Did not fish, just ran shuttle from Baptist to Park.
  19. Would look to clear water trickles that flow into bigger rivers, when the bigger stream is up and muddy. Hardly ever wade fish for smallmouth anymore. Much more productive if you float. Find a good canoe partner, and trade ends often if you want to canoe and fly fish for them. One paddles, other fishes. Kinda hard to fly fish floating solo, but can be done. Not As effective as when two fish as a team though.
  20. Very nice! Good for the kids!
  21. Prescription Plastics Ozark Finesse Heads.
  22. Awesome!
  23. Order by the hundred! The best there is!
  24. Slower water near fast with the Ned or tube maybe? Usually punch the log jams if it is tough. Daves heads usually make it out of a log pile if you have a good feel. Mitch jigs no worries. Fishing down that way after the holiday will post a report.
  25. Nothing is more fun than casting to cruisers. Gotta make that first cast count!
