Its running 1.4 at acres, which is about 4" up from dead low...Should be nice and clear. Its usually pretty easy to get a non-reserved site in loop 1 our 3.
Current River blue ribbon trout water our the Gasconade SMBSMA. Crowded but good fish are there if you can figure it out. Might take awhile to get an 18" but they are their. Call Jadwin for the Current nice folks. Andy @ Route 66 is guy I like on the Gasconade & B. Piney.
What next? Think I'll go start the fire and slice up an apple to go on my salad. Garam Masala chicken leg quarters, Cilantro lime garlic yogurt dipping sauce. Rhubarb chutney. Cheap eats but will be good! 4.88 for 5 leg quarters today!
Open Mind when it comes to watercraft always a new one to try. 17'Tandem canoe still gets the most action. 2 kids and all the gear while wifey floats the kayak. No problem. Extra full size coolers or a dry bag that won't fit in your yak for 2-3 nights...... No problem but will enjoy your beer.
Otters will kill for sport sometimes. Usually during breeding season. Had one of my best days this year on the Niangua but I was not fishing for trout. The trout water has been slow the last couple years. 5-6 trout and some bonus fish about average, but never a banner day. Not many places to fish w/o company down there. Anglers in every spot were you can drive to the river. That trout water gets hit harder than most.
No problem with a17' 80lb canoe. The weight is pretty even so it carries well and loads easy. Not so with SOT kayaks. Uneven weight distribution and most bow heavy with no good way to load easy w/o a buddy handy. Takes about 2-3 minutes and little effort to load & strap a canoe on the ladder racks on my truck. Takes a while longer to load the SOT. Heavy as my 17' tandem canoe and less than 12' long.
Why would smaller trout serve JR? Thinking bigger fish would attract more folks or maybe most who fish there are happy with a stringer full of dinks? Fish the Niangua occasionally but the park is a drive through on our way to fish someplace. Bought the only time we stop is to feed the fish and let the girls pick out a snack and a cheap toy. 6 and 8 and they would rather float our bank fish someplace else.
My 14'8 solo canoe is a 35 year old fiberglass model. The hull is more rigid and it has better lines than any of he royaex solo's that I've paddled. Great boat if you don't mind loosing some gel coat. Would probably go with a wenonah wilderness in Royalex if your over 220. A bit bigger and a drier ride.
Coosa did well today on Big River. 3 rods max, but it floated great. Fish uncooperative though. River is up and falling. Thew the box at them but only hits,on top. Will go upstream ok.
Agree with Al. My friend Kally Sue has a Next. Her guy has a new OT fishing kayak. They like them but who does not like their new boat? Discovering that it's a bitch to be handicapped by your boat. Can't figure out how to fit 5 I rigged and ready rods in a Coosa. Comfy ride but cant wait to jump back in a solo canoe. Heavy turd too.
The Coosa does not track at all but a great downriver boat. Would rather pole my 17' tandem than take that up river.14' 8" solo canoe is my favorite. Does everything well but needs some new wood work. Coosa will have to do for now till I get that done. 35 year old canoe. perception pescadoer 12" comes,to mind. Knock off off the old Wilderness Tarpon 120. Good boat! Lots of keel so some effort to turn, but will go up River easy
Paddlers do have favorite boats. Might take a few transactions before you find your it. Buy used if you can find a model you would like to try, Easy to get your money back if you want to sell it.
Height and Weight? Would not want a solo canoe shorter than 14' and a Jackson Coosa works fine whenever my wife is not floating it. Me 5' 11" and a buck 80.
Tossed a Sage MOD 9' 5wt today. Liked it a bunch. Think they hit the mark with this one. Great at 30-50, did really well out to 75'. Takes some finesse to coax 90-95' out,of it. Might pick one up to replace my 9' 5wt Sage SLT. Great,General purpose 5 wt.
