  1. Should be good for big walleye on the Meramec or Gascy!
  2. I keep it simple. Clinch knots, improved sometimes, and the Davy for itty bitty stuff. Triple surgeons for braid to leader, our uni-uni if there is something tied on the leader that I dont want to re-tie. Non-slip mono loop if I want a loop knot. It hardly matters around here...not many game fish many fish over 10lbs, Tie a quick easy knot and don't worry about it. Sometimes a blood knot, our an Albright. Don't have to think to tie any of them. If I had any expectation of catching 20-30lb fish on a regular basis I'd probably pay more attention to it.

    What's Cooking?

Nice find yesterday! Spent the week on Ft Myers Beach with the Family and suffered through several lackluster overpriced meals. Wanted a simply prepared fish dinner last night so my bro-in law and me ran down to the fish market in Bonita Springs. Not much of interest and no whole fish. Asked the fish monger were we could find some whole fish and he told us about the International Market in Naples. Off we went. Awesome Latin Market and the weekly special was whole red snapper for 3.99 a pound! Bought 5 snapper, some plaintains, bottle of Mojo marinade, lemons, limes, cilantro and some stuff to make salsa. $50. Scored the snapper, stuffed with lime, lemon, and cilantro poured on the mojo and tossed them on the grill while my bro-inlaw fried the plantains and our wives made the salsa. Best meal we have had in a long time!
  4. Might be easier if they did not have their 1/8 cent sales tax funding, Might have to pay attention to the folks who buy permits for a change,
  5. Any will do.looking at low tide Ft Meyers Beach right now and grilling chicken. Stormy the last couple days. No way to sight fish Snook. Bigger water will a long way between access points is usually better.
  6. I agree Al. The sample sizes were small, and they rely on lots of assumptions with their surveys. I figure that avid anglers are the ones most likely to fill out a survey and send it back. Occasional anglers probably have a much lower return rate, and the poaching heathens never would. They results are probably screwed accordingly. Did they adjust for that? Not surprising on your shock boat trip. The electrodes have a limited range, and the results often depend on the fish eyes and skill of the person netting the fish, the boat operators read on the water, and the coordination between the two. Might provide an indicator to an increase our decrease over time but the results are never a true indicator.
  7. Any will do. Bring your nymph box. Rainbows outnumber the smallies.
  8. Probably ran up out of the Meramec. Same happens on lots of tribs when the water is high,
  9. Add a population dynamics into the equation. Lower harvest percentage but more users, Bet that use has more than doubled in the last 20 years. Static metrics from back then should be questioned.
  10. This goes over like a lead balloon in my book. Not what was asked for by many. Still room for negotiations but not enough offered to appease most of the avid anglers that I know. Hope they come up with something better and I have questions about there data set. Wish they would publish it. Looking forward to there open house. Seems they don't give a stink about anything other than deer, turkey, and trout. Will vote to cut their funding if the screw the pooch on this. early and often.
  11. Fish boil dinner if you can find one.
  12. Have fun! Looks like a good start to your vaca.

    My struggle

That's a tough road to hoe. But positive thoughts are headed your way. Love your wife, love your kids, and be good to yourself.
  14. Nice find. Love those old school videos. All about the experience and no product placement!
  15. The ones I can't stand are the folks who tie boats together, and those who tie kids in PFD's to boats. Have helped a few folks out of a river jam so far this year. Usually tell them to walk it if scared on the next dicey spot and never tie your kid to a canoe or raft.
  16. Very nice! Good for you!
  17. Drifter would be a couple hundy more than a Jon. But similar construction.
  18. Buddy has built a couple cedar strip canoes. Another has built some wood and canvas boats. A Jon would be much cheaper.
  19. Very nice fish! Congrats, but not the way to hold one. Keep them horizontal please and no Boga.
  20. Sad. We always have PFD's on our kids and pay attention. As a pool owner and aquaholic, you need to watch always. Drowning is Silent. Folks just go under and you won't hear anything. Usually hire one of the swim instructors at the local college to life guard when we have a pool party.
  21. Look nice. Tying around a weed guard presents a few obstacles but it is doable. Whip finish by hand our half hitch and glue.
  22. Check out Kyles boat longboatoutfitters.com
  23. Heck with God in Government. The elimination of a National Religion is clearly defined in our country's founding documents. If you want God in government move to Syria or Iran and see how you like it. The Frozen Chosin retreat was in Korea Old Pliug. Would put your buddy at 80+. Thank him for his service.
  24. 10 hours in a tube? 5 miles max.
  25. No big deal, but put me in the one swift kick camp unless my daughters do it. Then it's wonderful;)!
