  1. Kapok is some kind of plant fiber that they used in life jackets years ago. Not hard to find if you google it. Basically a gut bug, but it does work. Drove through Bennett and it looked to crowded, really mossy, with lots of small fish. Not much catching going on. Decided to take the girls up river to fish for bass & goggle eyes instead. Worked out well. The girls caught fish and had fun.no crowd.
  2. Thinking that olive over pearl then white. They will eat sculpin and craw but they love big minnows more than anything else. 3,5"-5" range best. Nice brown BTW.
  3. It's been a couple years but I've never cared about the no parking signs at 47. The Kingston folks have been nice to us. They will come down and say howdy on occasion, but never more than a look see and some friendly questions. No big deal at all.
  4. Think you will be fine with intermittent rain. It's running 1.9 and falling at Akers now. Bought 6" over dead low. Great float level if it's running 1.5-5' foot is good but the NPS will close down floating when it gets to 4 or so at Akers. Your ATT 4G will work in the CG. Check your weather app and your River data app if you see lots of standing water in the CG. More rain coming, pack your possibles in good order in case you need a quick get away. That creek comes up quickly sometimes. Falls fast too.
  5. Neighbor has a bunch that need to come down. What does come down is nice sized for fire logs but react to the smell when you burn it. Worse than piss elm.
  6. Heard it was full too. Have not had a chance to check it out.
  7. Hopper, cricket, beetle, ant. I like non foam creations the best. But big is better than small on the hoppers & crickets.
  8. The radio in the camper is messed up. Will not tune to a station. Has anyone upgraded? Would like blue tooth to link our phones for music. Maybe blue ray for kiddo movies. Can wire anything, did it for years on aircraft. Any recommended devices?
  9. Good for you! My sister lives in Ione and we always enjoy our visits there. Love the fishing up around Lake Shasta.
  10. Sad news. Will miss his contributions to OA and other forums. Really nice guy. Fished with him on the Niangua once and many conversations over the years. He will be missed.
  11. You should have plenty to choose from. Have a great trip.
  12. Chanterelles will be up soon. Think the morels are about done,
  13. Hope you get something to eat for all that work! Did our meager little bit on Sunday. Maters, herbs, peppers. 1.5 yards of mulch. Bought half way there before the backyard is good.
  14. Most gut hooks will pop out if you know how to remove it through the gill plate. Turn the eye down, forceps up through the gills. Usually pops out before you have to insert your forceps if you de-barb. No problems with the Neds with weed guards even with kids. Tubes & bait are what they swallow mostly. Had a bit of work with a big smallie a couple weeks ago. Had a 4" jerkbait stuck in her mouth across the lips. 7 of 9 points buried in her mouth. Bait outside. Got her free in 30 seconds, thanks to de barbed hooks but lots a little blood in the process. It happens.
  15. Ozark Mountain Ranch was the best property on the market down there but the problem is the road. Folks are reluctant to haul their campers and motor homes down there. It's overflow from Montauk mostly. They are asking a lot for Eagles & that place. Both are basically tear downs so they must be waiting for a buyer with stupid walking around money. Will stick with our moderately priced camper, collection of tents, and skip the hassle of riverfront property. Vacation home/cabins/timeshares/rv storage would probably be the best way to go with those provided that it the fees are enough to fund routine maintenance & some folks to watch the place. Would hate to see that happen though.
  16. The heat of the summer IS fly rod time. Best when the top water bite is on. Stow your buzz baits & walking plugs and pick up a fly rod whenever they smack top within a couple inches of where your bait lands.
  17. Great stuff Ness! As always. Bust my chops.. You sexy thang;)!
  18. That's a good mess! Picture worthy IMO. Tells a tale.
  19. Never see city folks stick down there. Buddy Dave built next to Gene and only lasted a couple years. Bored out of his mind,a chore to find good stuff, and no available hotties.
  20. Our old family spot is the Conrad cabin down a road near Devils Well. Don't want it back. Can see it from the river. Break ins and looky loos all the time.
  21. Heck rainbow flags and a Starbucks does not bother me. I'll visit the Ozarks and live like Grizzly Adams for a couple days, but we like the schools and the amenities in town a lot.

  24. There is a pretty good tree ID section and some other great information at http://www.mushroomexpert.com/ .
  25. Could have read the newspaper off the bottom in 10' of water on the flow we floated Friday. Come on down for some clear water fishing some time. Not much of that in IL.
