  1. I use a straight piece of 8-10 lb flouro mostly. Then add some tippet to that if needed.
  2. Nice tie! Don't think you need a book. Time on the water and some advice on OA is all you need.
  3. That is some good info Hoglaw. I have only assembled rods with conventional guides. My first rods were bamboo fly rods that I made from scratch. Thinking 8-9 of those. Maybe 10-12 cast/spin rods. Do the micros ice up more than conventional? If it does not work in the winter I do not want it.
  4. I really don't care. I'm sure that a few doofus's go down to spawn rape. I did it a few times before i got bored with it years ago. I'm probably still a doofus to the core, but I figure that most who seek out those areas will figure it out in short order.
  5. If you like the chomped stand ups. Try the Bite Me jigs standup. I'm not a fan of the plastic on their wire. It melts when I powder coat them, but overall they are great.

    Dry Aged Beef

Not hard to do but it takes time and attention to detail like RPS said.
  7. I 'm pretty happy with the Fuji Alconites. I've tried some at two or three times the price and didn't notice a difference.
  8. Thought the doofus in the commercial was a carrying a center pin. I'm glad that is not popular here.
  9. They are probably still down in the Current.
  10. Thank you.
  11. Nice pickerel...and I know that spot.
  12. Nice vid....My dad and I used to take a trip there every year....caught some nice fish down there...the coloration on those fish is very different from what catch in Missouri. Olive with bright red spots...Missouri browns are more bronze with black spots.
  13. I've seen that White Jeep down at Cedar on my last two floats down there. That boy likes to run it..I've decided that I'm done with this ONSR process. Back to fishing, gonna go get a beer.
  14. Good for you!
  15. You didn't miss much...Didn't get off work in time to hit the open house...but the meeting was BS IMO..No open debate allowed. Did get a kick out of some of the weird speakers. The no government lady with the Cruella DeVille hat on, The imbalanced person talking about organic gardening and the purity of the water (I bet that she composts her own waste). The school teacher who brought 32 students to experience government and spoke in favor of the status quo (Glad my kids aren't in his class). It didn't solve or resolve anything, it just added to the stack of comments. The guy who spoke for the jet boat group seemed like a reasonable person. Think that most in attendance love the river but they have different ideas about how it should be used. Local folks think its "theirs". It is not, but they do get the benefit of more frequent use. Plenty of folks from the city who get there whenever they can. Fewer numbers of folks that rarely(never) visit with an agenda be it anti-government or extreme environmentalism. On the up side I got to say a quick hello to some friends that I don't see often, and split a pitcher with some good friends afterwards...Not a bad evening out of the house.
  16. Head to Yellville for the Turkey Trot sometime. Its been years but the were flying the stars & bars all around the courthouse...Tossing live turkey's from low flying aircraft to boot.
  17. Seasonal restrictions are fine with me. "Wingnut" was a kind description.
  18. Some good looking flies...The trick to a tight deer hair head isn't what you have been taught. 3 wraps & spin isn't as good as the Wapsi method. It is in and old book by Lacey Gee, Practical Flies and Their Construction. You can find it used cheap. Jerry Jarosik & Tom Ziegler refined that method a bit by using a darning needle to pull the loop. With a bit of practice you can get incredible control and a super tight head. If you cant find it, I can round up my copy. Hargrove has one too.
  19. I submitted my comments months ago in favor of Alternative A. I'm not anti-boater, or anti-horse, or anti boat rental...but the amount of people that visit the ONSR to participate in those activities is off the charts in comparison to the size of the river. Something has to be rolled back to improve the quality of the experience. I figure that there are plenty of other places to race a jet boat or get drunk and float. Go someplace else to do that. Horses don't bother me that much...except for the time that I arrived at my vehicle to find the access covered in feces, and my vehicle blocked in behind a trailer. Imagine what Yellowstone, Yosemite, or Great Smokey Mountain National Park would be like if those parks allowed the behaviors that are the summer time weekend norm in the ONSR.
  20. Sounds great! Love to cook Nawlins style. I've picked up many great recipes out of the Commanders Palace cook book.
  21. Yes Spoon Dog. You can keep until the end of February. Saw a young fellow string up a 21" out of a winter wade spot while fishing with the VP of Stupidity & Evil and Tim the Enchanter on leap day years ago. 2006 I'm guessing? He had 3 more 12-14" on his string. People take plenty of smallmouth in the winter.
  22. Nice tip Tanvat. That sounds like something I call the drop, drag, & drift. Get it out there. Drag it to where you want it & mend.. Drift it. Works for dries, nymphs, steamers. Downstream mostly, but it can work across if the angles are right.
  23. There has been an X on that spot for a long time. Not worth a Winter Hall pass IMO.
  24. Bow and Arrow cast, switch cast, and the standard roll cast instead of overhead. Make the first cast count. I've never mastered the bow and arrow cast, but Dave Dawson (Former Proprietor @ Eagles Park on the Current) had it down. Glow Ball Dave had it down cold. I do better with the switch .
  25. That sucks. PM your resume, and I will send it along to some folks. If you approve.
