  1. Agree, 100% on that FW. Hard to kick my wife, and little girls out of the camper though..They have all the comforts of home. Will have to take em out for a 3 day/2 night gravel bar camp and see how they do with it. w
  2. Current “Family” camper is a 32’ bumper tow. Did not want a 5th wheel, but they tow better. 3 tents if you have boys and girls over 10. We have an old school 12’x12’ canvas cabin tent for my wife and me and our two daughters get my “3 man” rated backpacker tent. It will sleep two OK, but tight. Better for 1 and dry gear storage in the extra space & vestibule.
  3. Can your vehicle pull a camper? Otherwise, I'd get two tents, one for the adults, one for kids.
  4. Good for you! First year back at the ducks and learning what not to do. Hunting Friday at a club with supervision. Might kill em if they fly instead of sit.
  5. Look like lake Smallmouth stressed in a live well for awhile. Nice ones. Hope you ate them. Guessing one bottom right might go 18".
  6. Meanmouth, use future fish taco instead. Hate those fricking hybrids. Both of those look like grandmother smallmouth. Nice catches!
  7. If you hit allot of materials with a uv light you will notice that allot of them use dyes and brighteners that will glow in the UV spectrum. Heck, they put UV brighteners in laundry soap.
  8. McCormack and Noblett lake used to have decent numbers of Chain Pickeral. McCormack has free primitive camping. Most of those lakes are not well maintained.
  9. Lefty was a dick. Whitlock was nice. Mel Krieger and Jack Gartside were more fun.
  10. Jumping Joe! Met him a long time ago.”Trout Tactics” is still relevant.
  11. Buddy of mine manages a fly shop on the Snake, he has guided it for years and fishes it often. Can send you his contact info.
  12. Keep it real...You still have some fun ahead. Heck, I'm only 52, and it hurts to wake up sometimes. Not often...Only the tough can get old, but I can still trust a fart.
  13. Hang in there old man. I'm sure that the fish population on the Niangua would have a sudden rebound if you kicked the bucket, but would rather have you gathering some groceries. Attitude is everything.
  14. Easy way to spatchcock a 23lb Turkey.

    What's Cooking?

I got the sourdough too! LOL.... Good stuff from Companion bread.

    What's Cooking?

Making some Spanish style ham & beans with greens (Caldo Gallego, Galician broth). The smoked paprika is what makes it good. No other seasoning required.
  17. Jefferson Lake has some nice fish in it at the moment...Just across the street from Big Barnes. Get yourself some Sugar Fire BBQ at the Boat House on your way out.
  18. Meramec is closer to town, but I never stop. Current is another hour south and worth the drive.
  19. Nice! You need a tag along to take pictures for you...Will volunteer!
  20. Insurance statistics say that MO averages about 3,500 reported deer/vehicle strikes per year, about 5 of those will be fatal to the driver, 350-400 drivers will be injured, plus the property damage. If deer were vaping devices we would be writing laws to ban them.
  21. The Antler Hunters would get pissed, but OK with year round no limit deer season. $1 each, report it, and you can buy the $1 tags after you shoot them. Kill em all! Sick of deer dodging on my way home this time of year.
  22. Figure his Freezer was to full for one more dead beast.
  23. The turkey is good but the time with friends is better. Picked up a 23lb bird today. In the garage fridge to thaw. Will brine on Tuesday, spatchcock & cook Wednesday. Haul to camp reheat & eat on Saturday. The back, neck, cast off trim bits & offal (other than the liver & kidneys) go in the pot to make the gravy stock. Also stopped by Companion Bakery. Got a loaf of Sourdough, Five Grain, and Pain Beaucaire to cube and dry for the Sage Dressing.
  24. Picking up Turkey tomorrow, and always brine. Head count is around 25. One Vegan, so 24. I do the Turkey, dressing, and gravy every year, others bring the sides so it is stinking easy. I do use some of the offal, and the neck to make stock for the gravy. Chopped offal and neck meat go in the dressing. Gizzard & heart are the bits to use. I fry the liver and share it with the dog. Too strong for the dressing or gravy.
  25. I’ve seen two bobcats in the past 40 years. Would probably see more if I had the patience to sit in a tree, deer gaze, and let them pass.
