  1. Put some turkeys to roost on unfamiliar land, then got up and hiked out there way before daylight, and got in what I thought was a perfect position. And kinda dozed off a bit. I was only about 250-300 yards from where I parked the truck. About 10 minutes before the sky was bright enough that I could see.... an owl let loose LOUDLY right over my head, scaring the crap out of me, and I jumped up, made several trips around the tree calming myself back down.......fatal mistake! If I had sat still I would have been fine, but now I was completely turned around. Never did hear the turkeys "fly down", and although I never crossed a creek to get there I ended up having to cross a creek (because I could hear a road in that direction) and walk over a mile of gravel road, across a bridge of course, to get back to my truck. Being lost in the woods is a real test to your level of anxiety control. 😳
  2. I catch walleye on this thing nearly everytime I tie it on. Usually early spring, up the creeks, after a good rain. Swivel and spinner are attached via a loop of 20# fluorocarbon. Just don't hit yourself in the back of the head with it ! πŸ˜‚
  3. Looks like Jackson Lilley to me. πŸ€—
  4. When she isn't looking, grab her purse, dig deep and I bet you'll find your balls. πŸ‘
  5. I know of a few dozen cases where the wife gets all headstrong, and starts making decisions for everyone in her clutch........It never works out good. My FIL is a spineless victim, that can't even be trusted to know the proper air pressure to put in his tires without input from MIL. Once an HVAC professional that built race cars..... before marriage. Totally beat down. 😞 I just love it when a customers wife calls me, intent on discovering how badly I'm trying to screw her husband over on his boat repairs. πŸ™„ We have a lot of fun with that around here.
  6. Everybody I know that's done the "ancestry.com" thing claims they are related to Jesse James πŸ™„ Either the ancestry thing is BS ...... or old Jesse got a lot of poontang.
  7. You know what the bible says about the comparison of horses and donkeys.... Ezekiel 23:20
  8. Anything without a saddle on it is just another deer. Shoot it & eat it !
  9. You can make lips from Shoe Goo really easy too. It works good, and is durable as hell. Just put a dab between 2 plastic spoons, and squish to the desired thickness. Let it set up....peel off and trim to shape. It's fun to tinker with. I've just never had that day when THAT was the action that got the bites. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
  10. Yep, I run into the same issue when doing TWM's. I ruined a few by trying to trim the faces to get them to run straight.....before I figured out that an extra 1/2" of tailing material straightens them right up. Even one that's tied obviously crooked. πŸ‘
  11. I really like the action of these.... But honestly I can't claim to have ever had a good day fishing them. Nevertheless I still carry a half dozen in a few colors, because I feel that eventually they'll have their day. The key to getting them to run true is adding an extra long tail. If the tail is too short then you can only fish them slow. Add a longer tail and you can rip them pretty fast and they'll still run straight.
  12. That sticker on your pill bottle that says "Don't drive or operate machinery" is only a SUGGESTION. Pharmacists don't make laws. If you can be trusted with a shotgun and a box of slugs......then bygod you can be trusted with the car keys !
  13. It has for me too. πŸ‘ I quit bothering with Hares Ears about 15 years ago because the RFSN always did its job better.
  14. Bummer ! πŸ˜₯ This from Emily......
  15. Everybody is making stuff around here.
  16. Rainshadow Unity 8'6" 5wt. 2pc. 1.5oz. Butt .366 Tip 4.5 I used a 9' 6wt. Unity blank for a rod I built my daughter (graduation present). Cut 1.5" off the tip & butt and paired it with a 7wt. line. It turned out to be a really sweet White bass/Smallmouth rod.
  17. Leave those stinkin' doctors alone! Have they ever done anything other than give you troubling news that causes you to worry ?
  18. Back in the day the First mate would announce "Boys, I have good news and bad news......The good news is you're all having steak for dinner. The bad news is....The Captain wants to water ski". 😳
  19. I don't wanna hear itπŸ™„ At least you don't have to work on them....and sort all that crap out. Under that casting deck lies the gawldarnest wad of tangled spaghetti you've ever seen. 😳
  20. One good thing about sluggin' a whitetail, is that they pile up right there where you shot'em. πŸ‘ I'm a big fan of a quick kill. The gun I had and loved the most was a Model 70 Winnie .243 .....it shot like a dream.... but everything I shot with it would run 50-100 yards before laying down. Even the dang coyotes! Jesus! Might as well be shooting a crossbow πŸ™„ If I was still into deer hunting my lower limit on projectiles would be .30-06/.30-30 class or bigger.
  21. Well I'm only 5'11", and I can actually touch the water with a 6'6" rod...... but not at an angle that is comfortable, and has me in a good position to set the hook.
  22. Oh really? Well that's cool! Does it have a dacron core.....and come in Orange? Sweet. Thanks πŸ‘
  23. I'll try..... If your rod tip is a foot above water, and you strip the line.....What does the line do at the end of the strip ? Does it abruptly come to a stop? No it doesn't. It "CREEPS" forward (several feet) until the line is directly vertical to the rod tip. With a longer rod, and the tip COMFORTABLY right at the water surface......What does the line do at the end of a strip? It stops moving forward IMMEDIATELY. Might sound like a piddly detail unworthy of consideration to ya, but I promise you'll get spanked if we are fishing from the same boat. πŸ˜‰
  24. Nah, the thing that gives streamers/clousers, and poppers their killer action is the sudden and complete STOP between strips. If your line has to creep forward, even the slightest little bit after a strip (which it will unless your rod tip is very near the surface of the water).....then the number of bites you'll get is cut in half....or even more. In order to control that with a shorter rod requires you to stoop over, sit down, or to hold your rod down at an extreme angle that isn't very natural. Hard to explain in text, but it's a real thing. I won't even attempt to flyfish from the elevated deck of my bass boat, even with a 9 footer, for this exact reason.
  25. If you're always knee to waist deep in the water then I'd share that sentiment with you. If you're fishing a streamer or a popper from a boat then that loose hanging piece of line between rod tip and water surface is costing you bites. Lots of them. Nobody wants to stand hunched over all day.
