  1. I've killed an equal number of deer from the ground as I have from a tree while bowhunting. But I never did set stands up very high. Usually just high enough to have branches breaking up my outline. Some (most) guys set up so high that they have hawks flying under them. I'm too freaked out about heights for all that. 😅
  2. No they are midges in the test tank. I pour some oil (gear lube) in there to keep the mosquitoes down......but the midges live and hatch right through it. So do the tadpoles of Spring Peepers, oddly enough. Hearty little fellas !
  3. Dunno, but I can tell ya that there is a particular area (zone) on the Niangua where par marked little rainbows are most common. Doesn't seem to matter the season either. It can be the coldest part of winter....or the hottest part of summer. About a 200 yard stretch. I assume that natural reproduction is like that in all of our Ozark trout streams. There's likely a pattern to it but I don't fish the others enough to know.
  4. On the Niangua and NFOW the browns seem to do best on the lower reaches of the stream. To me that would suggest that they can tolerate the typical Ozark climate better than rainbows. This one was far FAR away (downstream) from any stocking location......and look how healthy it was!
  5. I feel like some segmentation (a rib) would make that fly even more effective. My outboard test tank is always full of midge larva, and the body segmentation on those tiny little wriggling tubes is the most noticable thing about them.
  6. I do mine pale yellow, with a tiny little olive thorax. Ice Dub. #22 All the midges I see on spring creeks here in MO. are cream colored with a darker thorax. The bigger rivers and tailwaters have black/dark ones.... but I don't fish teeny-tiny midges on big water. For darker midges I don't think a pattern exists that can outfish a #18-20 Griffiths Gnat. If they aren't taking it on top.....put a split shot 10" above it.
  7. I've done well with this one. I don't bother with the tailing/shuck BS.
  8. They are all "easy to tie". Are you interested in patterns that truly mimic the midges we have in this region (that matter)? Or are you more interested in patterns that classify as "midges", that will get bit ?
  9. Nobody should buy that theory, it's BS. 🙄 They are social creatures just like almost everything else. They might scatter when attacked, like a school of fish, but give them a bit to calm down and they'll get right back together. I'd love to know the real reason why they keep saying that over & over.
  10. Awesome 👍 Looking forward to it. Show us how it's done on Samuel Clemens pond !
  11. Welp, they didn't pounce quickly enough. PM me your address, Dave and I'll drop a check in the mail. While you're at it, let me know if you have any 9' 6wt rods in the collection.
  12. The older "made in Mexico" lightning rods were exceptionally sweet...... But the latest ones are still pretty darn good for their price range.
  13. @fshndoug or somebody..... if you don't, I'm gonna ! Dave's a good guy, know him personally.
  14. Sure hate to see you unloading all your goodies, brother 😥 Hope all is well, and goes well.
  15. That would be fun. Before I got my first PRod I did a bunch of work, and spent way too much money, on a Crossman pumper that I was building specifically for canoe floats. I never did get the power or accuracy to the level I was wanting though. It's good for bullfrogs at 10-20 yards..... that's about it. 🙄
  16. Nobody needs anything better than that for Bass/Crappie/Walleye fishing. Lightweight enough, sensitive enough, and durable enough. If anyone has one (6'6"-7' spinning or casting) that they don't like...... I'll gladly pay a fair price and take it off their hands. 👍
  17. Used to every Fall/Winter up in Monroe county. Just reminiscing about it makes me hungry for Spam, scrambled eggs, and fried taters over a stick fire. 🙂
  18. During the early bow season one year I killed one late in the evening and had to work the next day, so I hung it in my shed, stuffed the body cavity full of ice bags, and wrapped a ski rope around it to keep the body cavity closed. Fretted over it all day at work because it got up to about 80 degrees that day......But when I got home at 6:30pm only about a half gallon of ice had melted. A deers gut-hole is as good as a high dollar Yeti cooler when it comes to insulation. 👍 When I pulled the hide down the neck, head, and even the leg meat was cool as a cucumber.
  19. Offer them a few bucks to keep an eye on your vehicle.....and provide a little security if needed. 👍
  20. I'm very familiar with St.C rod blanks, and I can tell ya that the Mojo series blanks are a step below the Premier series. Actually the Triumph blanks are better quality than the Mojo. The Avid's of TODAY are not the Avid's of years past, and IMO are no better than today's Triumph blanks. So, in truth it comes down to what you TRULY want.......Be it a quality blank.....or a handle/reel-seat that looks "cool" to you.
  21. Who sells a 6'6" 2pc. Berkley Lightning Rod ? I've only seen/owned 1pc. models.
  22. It does look "traditional", but have you seen the Air Force camo painted synthetics? 🥰 I really dig that.
  23. Finely finished checkered walnut is orgasmic. But the kinda "wood" you're talking about has less sex appeal than a hammer handle. 😂
