  1. Here's the thing....... There are all types of water at Bennett. Fast shallow water, Slow deep water, Weedbeds, Rootwads, Riffles, Boulders, Tailouts, Shoots, Slower flats, ect. It's a great place to practice, or learn, FLYFISHING. Nymphing, Dryfly fishing, Swinging wets, Streamers, Sight fishing, Pocket water fishing, ect. Stocker trout bite the exact same way as wild trout, so you can hone your strike detection and hook setting skills to a fine art. So if you learn to fish all those different types of holding areas, and practice until you can do it WELL throughout the entire stream...... you'll be a good trout fisherman anywhere in the world you choose to go. However, if you're one of those guys that just stands knee deep in the hatchery outlet, or on the bridge, dam, or handicap jetty, with a mop fly under a bobber ALL DAY......You ain't learning or practicing Jack $#!t.
  2. 1/4oz. Redeye Shad in THIS color, and a rod with 10-12# line that can sling it a country mile. That's all you need.
  3. I've been saying it for years...... It was way better way back when a couple of drunks with Pall Mall's hanging out of their mouths hauled feed across the road in a wheel barrow and slung it out of a coffee can. They got all that fancy expensive gear, hired highly educated fisheries biologist's, and the place went to hell. πŸ™„
  4. I just learned that a restaurant in Laurie has Crickets on the menu. πŸ€”
  5. Yeah it doesn't take long for a thread here to turn from rod-building/fly tying.....to a discussion on the fastest way to get rid of a case of crabs. πŸ‘ That's why I love this place. πŸ˜‰It's just like hanging out in my shop.
  6. I have a buddy that lives off Rolling Hills, and I knew that Gateway went all the way to AA because I looked at a map......But I assumed that it turned to gravel. It's good to know that it doesn't. πŸ‘ As for Independence...... That's where my machine shop is. πŸ˜‰
  7. And they act like there's nothing in the woods to eat. Gotta be alongside a road, or in somebody's yard to get fed. πŸ™„
  8. Mitch is ribbing me because he knows I hate running mainlake points. πŸ˜…
  9. No doubt. Better than anything I've done in the last few years. That's for sure! πŸ‘
  10. The literal brains of the Current river brown trout & Black river Walleye program back in those days was a good friend of mine. He hurt his back while on the job.....and because he ONCE (long before) had some weed in one of the trucks and was reprimanded for it, they (MDC) denied his workman's comp.....which financially ruined him for life. He worked for MDC for a LONG TIME, practically his whole working life....and they took a dump on him only when it was convenient for THEM. Because of something 6-7 years prior. The douchebags on the cafe (including a couple that I believe are among us here) 100% backed up MDC on that decision, several of them saying what a worthless pothead he was, and that he deserved it. πŸ™„ Left a really bad taste in my mouth.
  11. Nice bag! Can he do it AGAIN? πŸ˜…
  12. Doesn't ring a bell, no. πŸ€” That's been a looong time ago. Dial-up days.
  13. I remember Kipster from the old Conservation message board. He was a genuine smartass.....but I must say, he does some fine woodwork !
  14. Is it claimed.....or is it going up for auction? πŸ˜‰
  15. Rolling Hills Rd. to Gateway Rd. to AA ? That is all paved? Sweet !!!! Thanks πŸ‘ Having the vehicle covered in either dust or mud is a drag.
  16. Coming from the North, Independence Rd. (right before the water tower on 5 hwy.) will take you to AA. It actually cuts 3 miles off the trip to Bennett......but it's gonna be either dusty or muddy because it's 5 miles of gravel. You'll wanna hit the car wash on the way home for sure.
  17. No problem. A better deal on a better motor could fall out of the sky at any time, but right now that's all I have in the 20hp range. I actually hate those old hard-pulling Mercs..... that's why I haven't done anything with it......But there are guys out there that just LOVE THEM, and the parts off of them sell like gold.
  18. Appreciate the kind words, but deny the rest πŸ˜… Hillbilly seems like the kinda guy that can do his own wrenching, so that ol'Merc 20 would be a fine project for him. πŸ‘
  19. I've got a 20 Merc that would make a good project for ya. 300.00 as/is. It's all there, just needs someone to love it. Could part it out on eBay for over 1000.00 but who's got the time for that? πŸ™„
  20. Those old Richline's will last forever πŸ‘ Do you have a motor for it ?
  21. Speaking of Pickles.....a pickle jar makes THE BEST margarita glassπŸ‘ One fish oddity that I've witnessed over & over is that fish shut down LAKEWIDE when a big event like the Big Bass Bash starts. I'm talking about even in areas that haven't been visited yet. It's as if somehow the clue to shut-down is broadcast through the water. So you can't blame it on actual pressure or local boat traffic. Fish activity changes EVERYWHERE when heavy pressure is ANYWHERE....or so it sure seems.
  22. Let's just say.....that anyone holding a state record is no longer a virgin. 😳
  23. Lookin' good ol' boy ! What river are you on now?
  24. Either hit the lottery and is currently buried in hookers.......Or he went Babler on us. πŸ€”
  25. I've been on a bit of a frozen margarita binge too, since Fathers day. They sure are going down smoothly πŸ˜‹
