  1. Far more often they have dink Goggle-eye that are too small to fillet.
  2. Just because there's snow on the ground and I'm bored I ran out to the shop and gathered up the biggest ball bearings I could find. It took 7 of them to weigh more than 2 ice cubes. So there's that. 🤷‍♂️ Don't ask me the specific weight......I used my culling balance beam. 🙄
  3. I dunno, but the weight capacity is only 300# so if you plan to carry a deep cycle battery you'd better skip breakfast and make sure you poop before you take off !
  4. No they float. There's a couple that run around here. They actually look like more fun over land than over water. It has to be FLAT land though. They can't climb a hill or go up a boat ramp. Downhill is fine.
  5. Wonder if they x-rayed the fish holding the standing record ? I'm betting that they didn't.
  6. Today's "good tournament angler" would have his day shot to crap if his FFS failed. I've yet to see anyone "adjust on the fly" and still come out ahead when that happened. I had an outboard lay down once, and I still won. Have had a trolling motor cable break, and I still finished respectable. Hit a metal fence post and put a hole in the boat on Pomme....and still took 2nd place. But without FFS (and enough experience using it) I don't even bother entering any derbys anymore.....cuz I know I don't have a chance.
  7. That's one good thing about being a tough old bastard with a body full of poison...... Nobody wants to eat ya. 👍
  8. Got any good Windyville cannibal stories?
  9. The electronic manufacturers can do whatever they please, but BASS, MLF, NPFL ect. would never have ignored the forefathers of professional fishing. It's actually kinda funny, because all of the guys that were saying....."oh just shut up and fish"....7 months ago......are now slowly beginning to piss & moan. Reconsidering their position as more & more young gamers with zero fishing experience are drifting around out in the middle of the coves, and taking their money.
  10. I'll defend Randy until the cows come home. He gets blasted for "negativity" but the grass ain't always green. There are bonafide issues that truly need to be tended to. And thus far he's the only one with the balls enough to stand-up and fight the fight. If Clunn, Nixon, Vandam, ect. would be honest about their true feelings, and concerns, then things would have NEVER gotten to this point, because bygod everyone would listen to THEM. But their pussied approach and unwillingness to upset anyone has just left the door wide open. They wanna be LOVED, and that's all they really care about. 😮‍💨 If anything I have gained WAY MORE respect for Randy Blauket, and have lost respect for the big-timers that everyone bows down to. They took a giant crap on the sport IMO.
  11. Maybe, but you sure couldn't tell it by me, or anyone I've ever talked to. The Smallies have always seemed to peak out at about 13" in Crooked cr. 🤷‍♂️ The fish population seems about the same as the Little Niangua to me. Good numbers of sporty size Smallies, but just not many "bigger" fish.
  12. Yeah that's a real thing. We did foil bakes the last time we camped at the river below Bennett, and you could tell after the first bite, which one's had been in the river awhile.
  13. I think first you need to determine the cost of processing and turning the flesh into powder, and then compare to how much a pound of that powder is worth. Then of course you'd have the FDA to reckon with. If it was anywhere near worthwhile then somebody would be doing it.
  14. It appears that they handled it all wrong. But yeah, fish weight records as a whole are ignorant, and pointless. I've been part of 2 definite records, but the thought of submitting either OFFICIALLY was not even a consideration.
  15. Bottom line: As far as we know NOW they confiscated the fish from the man....THEN discovered ball bearings in the fish. With no evidence of the accused putting them there. He has a case. No doubt about it, unless there are unmentioned details.
  16. I'd never expect mine to work for free, but I know darn well I'd get that retainer back.....PLUS be setup to retire. Especially if the case was against the fish & wildlife department. Deep pockets, brother! 😉
  17. If somebody PUBLICLY accused me of shoving ball bearings down the throat of a fish.......You can bet I'd call out a favor from one of my lawyer friends. In a heartbeat I would. 👍
  18. Well, if lawyers get involved they'll stretch it out for 2 years, so don't hold your breath.
  19. Surely this little guy wouldn't do all of THAT !
  20. Yeah, there's a bit of that story that isn't being told. Rumor has it that the guy has "lawyered up" and is still quite upset that they took the record down. There's more to that story that isn't being publicized.
  21. So every fish weighed, from this point going forward, has to be x-rayed ? Good grief 😔 Sounds like it's time to start scoring by length.
  22. Tungsten powder is heavier than steel bearings, and more readily available to fishermen. Probably wouldn't even show up via x-ray. How can any weight be trusted now ? 🤔
  23. Yeah, a moderator with a hair-trigger is exactly what we need on these lakes 😅
  24. Some biologists say that about fish in a pond too. So the age-old belief that fish can be "overstocked" is a myth to them. You'd think that, in the name of science, all biologists would agree.....but apparently it's like religion, and you just "believe" whatever makes you feel the best.
  25. Yep, there goes the only legal place in the state to drive drunk. 😅
