No matter what you are into......it was always better BACK IN THE DAY ! 😄

The Brown fishing in the river was really good from 2000-2001 until 2005 In 2005 the river stayed high and muddy all winter long, and the fishing for Browns has never been as good since then. I used to do a self shuttle float from Redbeard's to Ho Humm almost weekly and I'd routinely catch 10-15 nice browns. Sad that those days are gone. I wish they'd go back to managing the river like that again.

Actually I don't think me and the witch were actually married at the time. So it would have been 2001 I think, and I know it was early June because school had just gotten out. Man how time flys ! It could have been '02

I'm gonna butt in here and say Probably Not. The more pressure you put on a big trout the more violently he fights. I can't speak for anyone else but I lose more to the hook tearing out than I do from break-offs.

Ol' Jack B. was working a monster brown at the High bank hole years ago that was laying in a shadow so he couldn't see his fly. He finally gave up and headed back to his car, so after he got out of the way I stepped in and on about the 5th drift that sow gobbled up my little ginger nymph. Jack heard me holler at my wife (at the time) that I had a lunker on, and he came over and stood on the hill watching. The fight was lengthy and during the end of the battle the tippet had gotten looped around a pectoral fin. Jack started throwing a fit saying "it's foul hooked, it's foul hooked" and just kept on bitching at me. Finally when I got it landed I told him "come here and look ! " No I ain't coming down there, he said, I can see it from here. So I unlooped the tippet from it's fin and I said SEE ! He goes, "Oh BS, you unhooked it and stuck it in the jaw". That old SOB, I wanted to throw a rock at him. I had sent my wife up to the park store to grab one of those disposable cameras so I could get a picture before releasing it, but I got so pissed at that old peckerhead that as soon as the fish could hold itself upright I just released it. No idea what it would have weighed or measured but it was darn near as long as my leg. That's the biggest trout I have ever landed, and thanks to that old curmudgeon I never even got a picture of it. 🙄

Hey, It's his wood, and it's his soap.....He can wash it as hard and fast as he wants to !

Yeah but since this thread is about loosing fish......How many has he lost? 😁 Give us your best "lost fish" story, Rick !

We're having a full on Wing Ding for NYE. Two bushels full of hot wings, cashew brittle, all kinds of other goodies, and a houseful of liquor and major league bullshitters. That recipe could only turn out to be really good.....or terribly bad, no "in-between" is likely. Shoot for the stars, I say ! 2019 is upon us. 🤟

"Go back to your sewin' Hun, I'm varnishing a chair...."

Naw they were supposedly fat way before A&E ever got involved.

Holy Sowbug, Batman ! I knew you were notorious for Bigguns, but I had no idea. Somebody hand that man a crown 👑, or a case of fine whiskey, or SOMETHING. WOW! 👏

So who did the Phil Robertson clan make their millions from ?

Well yeah! Haven't you ever seen Charlett's Web ?

There's plenty of room. I'm the only one up here doing it. Some show up occasionally to try, fail, and never come back to try again. Gotta pay your dues 😊

I was pitching a jig around a dock one day, 20# line and a stiff rod, the line suddenly went slack so I gave it the ol' eye crossing stab and started cranking. Woah! It was heavy, strong, and I couldn't turn it no matter how hard I leaned on it. It ran under the boat, then peeled out from under the boat and ran back towards the dock. Every time I'd ease up it would take off in another direction and I could feel it vibrating powerfully. It didn't fight like a big cat, definitely wasn't a drum or anything like that, it honestly felt like a really REALLY big bass. Finally I tired it down and up through the murky water came a complete TV antenna. I had it hooked right in the middle. 🤬 That thing was fierce !

So who makes the best duck calls ? If the Robertson's got so allegedly rich selling duck calls then why don't I ever see their calls on the lanyards of all my waterfowl hunting aquaintances ? Just curious.

Nobody talks much about murdering crows anymore. When I was a youngun we got permission to go shoot rats at the local landfill, so we grabbed .22's and headed out there. When we got there we couldn't find any rats to shoot but there was a hundred crows flying about. After burning up a couple of boxes of shells trying to shoot them out of the sky with .22's I ran home and grabbed the 12 ga. and all the 3" mag. #6's and #4's that the old man had in the gun cabinet. Pretty sure I gave that "murder" of crows that name on that day. 😊 That was fun!

You have my attention ! 😋👍

Ahh! Snort! Stomp! Pfffft ! 😤

If they hit while you're mid-strip they can bust 12# line easily.....and I'm just talking about a 18" White. Hybrids are a whole 'nother story and I claim no knowledge of THEM. I actually don't like them mixed in with native White bass and wish they didn't even exist where I fish. A Mickey Finn ain't gonna cut it, you'll do much better with fat headed patterns that push water, or something akin to a Clouser that has some jigging action. For top-water action nothing beats a Crease fly in the right size. And actually a Crease fly on a sink tip line is a killer too.

Actually if you enter the data from a crony your ballistics won't be accurate in the real world. You gotta build it backwards. I don't know why, but that's just the way it is. Cronographs are only good for comparing after modifications, they are worthless for determining real world velocity and using THAT info to form a ballistic chart. It will be wrong every time. The BC (ballistic coefficient) is never factored in, and is ever changing, so to get honest real world data that you can depend on, you have to do it a different way.
-
If you'll give me the following info I'll get you a ballistic calculation. I need to know the following... Scope height: measure from center of bore to center of scope barrel. Range you are sighted in at. How far low your POI is at any range beyond your sight-in distance. (Just get me a figure within 3/10 of an inch). The exact pellet (brand/type) you are shooting, and it's weight in grains. If I have that info accurately added into Chairgun I can calculate your velocity, ft/lbs of energy, and can also pull up downrange ballistics.

I saw something several years back that really turned me off about bald Eagles. We have a breeding population of Stripers here in Gravois creek and one Spring about 200 yards from the eagle nest I see a striper (too big to fly off with) drug up on an island with nothing but the eyeballs plucked out and a hole picked in its belly so it could gobble up the eggs. The rest of it was left to rot in a place where the coons couldn't even get to it, the eagles never even came back to eat any more off of it, they just wanted those fresh eggs.
