  1. Doing things to make fish see your bait better is seldom a smart move. In flyfishing/fly tying you learn pretty quick that masking the details of a fly in clear water is the best thing you can do. I'd much rather a fish sense that there is something there, moving around, that is about the same size and shape as the things it eats....than to show a fish something it can get a real good look at.
  2. I'm all over THAT !
  3. Is it just where I live, or is it truly a waste of money to pay extra for speedier shipping ? On more than one occasion I received my stuff at the same rate regardless of my chosen shipping option. Once again I feel like an idiot for throwing them an extra 9.00 I should have just ordered another crankbait or something. ?
  4. I do really well with chrome style lipless cranks, but a chrome spook, or anything else chrome, has never been the bomb for me. It sucks that a chrome finish doesn't last more than a day or two. I don't like them with that "brand new" look either so I'm always in a hurry to get them just a little bit scuffed.....and then try to keep them in that condition as long as possible before they start flaking off.
  5. I always thought they should paint the INSIDE of clear plastic baits. Would give a better effect I think.
  6. Al doesn't slow them down and give the fish a chance to study all the fine artsy details. ?? Speaking of which, how come nobody fishes a clear spook anymore? That was a real thing once.
  7. There! Since you refuse to say it I will just say it for you.
  8. So wrong yes, or wrong no ? And I didn't edit, I just added more.
  9. Chief, You answer my question, then I'll answer yours. Again.....Am I wrong ?
  10. Well am I wrong ? Who, that YOU consider a knowledgeable fishermen, has changed their mind about this ? I mean, your beloved MDC and their team of wicked smart biologists even want them gone....Do they not? Otherwise why the regs designed to thin them out considerably ? I think you just like to disagree with me as much as humanly possible.
  11. Says who? Did I say I was? Had to check....Nope I didn't. Pick-pick-pick....Spin-spin-spin
  12. The fact that spotted bass in creeks and rivers are always ate up with parasites kinda indicates to me that they don't belong there. You boys that claim to enjoy catching them are only saying that because catching ANYTHING that doesn't require time honing skills makes you happy. Those spots need to get gone, and I don't care how many laws get broken seeing to it. Twist that up, like a defense lawyer, into anything you want in an effort to make your point, but you'll not change anyone's mind that has any real world experience on the rivers and the bass that inhabit them.
  13. Hey I just finished a vapor seperator and injector clean job for a 115 Yamaha 4S that had sat unused for 2 years. If you had gotten the bill for that you'd LOVE 2-strokes once again. Guarantee it. ? Whatever he saved on fuel he just lost x 1000
  14. Well the deal was that the skirt of the tube pretty much kept the hook out of trouble, so you could just about work it anywhere. Over cables and stuff. If it was a fish like one we were looking to catch then the whole bait was in its mouth so the little #6 tailing treble managed to hook up fine. Several of us tinkered with it for quite awhile (bass club days). If you don't shove it all the way to the nose then it has a wider walk. Of course this was back in the days before we had these sweet walking hollow bodied frogs....which are way better than playing proctologist with a flippin' tube.
  15. It's bummin' me out for sure. I love it because that outer skin is just as tough as CXX, but the CX Premium isn't like baling wire. It has a shelf life of FOREVER probably, but I am just not in the mood to stockpile a lifetime supply of it. I threw a fit on thier FB page but never even got a response. It's obviously a one-sided love affair, and I'll just have to get over it. ?
  16. Actually SK began as a Spinnerbait company. Bill McEwan. Charles Spence was the second owner of the company, and he turned it over to Ray Mersky in the mid-90's. The Spence Scout was a Bill Dance endorsed knockoff of the old original Clark Water Scout that dated clear back to when Calvin Coolidge was the president. Calvin's collection of Water Scouts and other assorted lures are in a museum somewhere. Closed mouth Cal' was quite a fisherman.
  17. So you can't give a gun, or ammo, as a gift anymore? It's gradually getting to the point where being a gun enthusiast is gonna inadvertently land you in prison regardless of how safe and ethical you are. I'm glad I lived most of my life in the 60's-70's-80's-90's because society and the rules we have to live by now (in the name of our own safety) sucks. Is there any evidence that all of this outrageous legislation has made the world a safer place ? Nobody I know of ever worried about being shot or attacked for no reason until AFTER all of this hysteria began.
  18. You don't reattach the belly hook, just leave it off. The hook hanger loop keeps the tube anchored. I guess you could reattach the hook, but I didn't when I used it. I'm actually thankful that you caused me to remember that because I did pretty well with that thing way back when...And there are way better tubes available now.
  19. I don't know why they call it blue, it's purple according to my eyes.
  20. Happy Day ! ? 8 is what I use for Whites and Smallies. I treat it like 12# and it never Crys about it.
  21. When the tornado took my place out in '06 I had 5 customer boats here and 3 of my own. My insurance covered the 2 that were partially disassembled (the ones I was actively working on) but they did not cover the ones that were either completed and awaiting pickup, nor the one waiting to be worked on. Needless to say, my 3 personal boats were not covered even though one of them was sitting inside my shop. None of my boats, themselves, were insured. All 3 were a total loss so I scrapped them for parts.....What else can ya do? Lesson learned! I always see to it that something is removed from my boat now when it is sitting here. It is in a constant state of "working on it." ??
  22. "Bother" meaning they are still catchable? Well yeah. But these are LMB we are talking about here. Shouldn't the best fishing come from flatter shallower upper end areas with cover, instead of steep bluffy lower end areas with the fish suspended and doing the majority of their feeding offshore ? My point is that their habits are changing because they can't maintain a home range. Of course we'll always figure out ways to catch them. Our LMB are acting more and more like Stripers and White bass as time goes on.
  23. Yep, I experimented with the RK and it didn't do so well when casting right up to the bank. For me the textbook "Wart Bite" happens about 5-8 cranks from the shoreline. You just can't beat a WW.
  24. Yeah we've all gone perfectionist. I finished regional top gun and 13th in the state using Trilene XT and Big Game, crappy old Alron jigs and TruTurn hooks. But I'm just too good for that now.
  25. OK, but the tension from a "bite" is not going to stretch even the limpest of lines. If you were dragging a 2oz Carolina rig on 10lb.line then you might have a point to consider. Otherwise I still claim Hogwash. ?
