  1. The smell of burnt leaves on your hands prolly tainted your powerbait. ☺
  2. You sound SURPRISED ??? When one of your buddies is running around with a giant plastic crank sticking out of his pants and you pass on the opportunity to capture the moment...... You are seriously slacking !
  3. You want a pic ? ☺
  4. My in-laws have video camera's pointing down their driveway and a monitor in their kitchen. My brother in law and I decided to prank them and he came up with a HUGE fake schlong, so when we pulled in at Thanksgiving he stepped out of the truck and acted like he was gonna take a pee. He whipped out that monster Weiner and turned so he knew the camera would catch it. It went bad though because the only one in the kitchen at the time was my wife's granny. She was strangely quiet throughout the whole dinner.
  5. Depends. If I am wade fishing (walking) then I'll hit it again on my way back to the truck. If I'm on a one-way float then it may not get fished by me again until the next time. Ya can't catch them all. ? If on a lake in a boat I'll hit it again in a couple hours unless I've found a place I like better before then.
  6. If you are for sure not going to use the boat for several months then go ahead and disconnect the ground lead, check the electrolyte level, and fully charge the battery. I don't like the idea of leaving chargers hooked up all Winter because nasty things have been known to happen (boats and houses burnt down) but it sure doesn't hurt to throw a charger on it once a month or so, for an hour or two, just to keep the juice stirred up.
  7. I have a remote fuel tank that I use here at the shop when setting up idle mixtures and doing carb syncing because I can never trust the fuel in a boats tank to be fresh and free of additives. Even though I keep the vent closed on the remote tank I can kinda tell when it is more than 3 weeks old just by the way an engine reacts to my adjustments, and if I haven't burnt it up by 5 weeks I'll dump it and refill with fresh fuel. It just makes my days go alot smoother. You may not be able to tell much of a difference when the motor exhaust is underwater but I can for sure tell the difference when there is no back pressure on the exhaust. trying to finely tune an engine with aged fuel is a PIA compared to how quickly it goes with good fresh fuel. It took me several years to accept that as a fact but I'm a firm believer now. It may look, smell, and test good in the vial but it looses something after several weeks.
  8. Do you mind if I quote you on that ?
  9. It's best to not run a battery below 50% charge on purpose. As voltage drops heat begins to build up in the circuits. A trolling motor that is run quite a bit on a low battery will glaze over the brushes and lose efficiency, bushings swell and contract, seals will get hot and leak, ect.ect. Always better to have more battery than you actually need. Even your cell phone gets hot when the battery gets low. Ever notice that?
  10. Now you've got me trying to figure out 14 places inside a spinning reel to put bearings. I'm at a loss. I can only think of a place for 6 at the most.
  11. Y'all are hard core! When the temp gets below 30° I forget I have a boat and remember that I have a wife. ?
  12. I'd get a group 27 deep cycle. Saw a cool and easy to fabricate wheel system for a small jon boat once, made the trek to the waters edge a breeze, and the battery can just ride in the boat. It just strapped on with a ratchet strap.
  13. Seriously, who fishes when it's 0° ? MCA is measured at 32° and 1000 is plenty for any outboard.
  14. I buy fuel using the same mentality of buying milk. It's ignorant to buy more than you can use up before it goes bad, even if the price is good at the time.
  15. There is alot of propaganda regarding alcohol enhanced fuel. As far as I can tell it is pure baloney. Fuel that is CLEAN and FRESH is what I believe is important, and non-ethanol fuel is more likely to be dirty and less fresh nowadays. Just my thoughts on it. If you throw a match on it and it immediately goes "WOOF!" then you can run an engine on it just fine. The quicker (and louder) it goes WOOF the better. ? It doesn't need to be any more complicated than that.
  16. Sounds like you need a fresh battery. Voltage is falling below 10v during cranking. Replace with one that is rated 1000 MCA or 800+ CCA If you have ran it that way for awhile you'd better have the charging system checked. Operating with a failing battery overheats the voltage regulator circuits.
  17. "power pack" is a Johnson/Evinrude term. On a Merc it is a "switchbox".
  18. I caught one on a Mag Pop-R once and when trying to release him he got a hook caught on my pant leg. The gull started freaking out and biting at my ankle, which freaked ME out, I panicked and ended up stomping him into a pile of blood, guts and feathers on the deck of my boat. I caught a huge water snake on that very same popper the same year. Then when fishing it after dark a year or so later a bat bit my line in two in mid-cast and backlashed the reel beyond repair. That Pop-R had bad karma.
  19. Who knows! I can't be expected to understand her when I don't even understand myself. I can't remember for the life of me what was so unpleasant about being single. I mean "punkin' pie" can be found just about anywhere, way cheaper than I end up paying for it too.
  20. My wife and I were wondering if they just pitstop here for a day or so then head further south, or if the same ones we see today are the same ones we will see in a week. One day they are thick, then the next day they will be gone. Then the following day there might be 8-10..... Then gone again. Not sure if they just hop around this lake or if new flights of them are constantly arriving from the North.
  21. Yeah well I want to enjoy my punkin' pie as long as I can. I told her I was going fishing today and she said ..."that's fine but I need you to do THIS and THIS and THIS". Well it wasn't "fine" because by the time all the "THIS's" were done there was only about an hour of daylight left. Then she says "Well....I thought you were going fishing". Just shut up and bring me that pie ! ?
  22. Lately I have been throwing a Pop-R (chrome/black back) and a 1/8oz. Sassy Shad 3", or Larew Long John minnow. Also did pretty good ripping a CC jigging spoon. Or a #2 Bulkhead Deciever, or #4 Clouser on the flyrod. Pretty sure the gluttons will eat anything. ☺
  23. Are they 4.7:1 or 5.3:1 ? If 5:3.1 I'll take 'em. I'll shoot you a text
  24. Well the gulls are usually not there flagging their position.
