  1. Well, it could be that he was in the back of the boat because that's where the livewell is at.
  2. Spawn run Salmon don't eat. If you catch one you snagged him. The fact that one is hooked in the mouth means nothing. They swim with their mouth open 1/2 the time so you're just as likely to snag it in the mouth as anywhere else. More likely actually, given the fact that they face upstream and your fly is being pulled downstream.
  3. You traveled 200 miles, the water is crystal clear and the bigger fish are holding tight in specific lies and won't move an inch to take a fly..... Ham drives home with no smell on his hands because he's just too regal to participate in such lewd techniques as "sight fishing". He is happy for a day of badly needed casting practice though.

    What's Cooking?

Just came in for a late lunch and HOLY BALLS things are happening in the kitchen! Smells amazing in here! Corned beef is stinking up the house, big cabbage wedges all seasoned up and ready to be baked. All kinds of crazy liquor on the counter..... I plan to fish tomorrow, gonna be hard to control my over eating/over drinking urges tonight.
  5. Hey, check back on me as far as you like.... I just post the facts that everyone else should know, but for some reason likes to ignore or pretend isn't real. It's like: As long as we all pretend that everyone just WALKS AWAY from a big ol','brown that won't eat a fly without trying to snag him in the face before we give up on him, then we can be justified in acting appalled when we see someone else do it. #hideyourhypocracywell I can rail on the guy for keeping/not releasing them, and still sleep good tonite. But I can't give him too much grief PUBLICLY for rolling a fly over a fishes nose and setting the hook, cuz I've burned that bridge more than once myself.
  6. They eat the bright red gills, eyeballs, and sometimes dig out the entrails or eggs. The rest of it gets left for buzzards and possums. Seen it plenty.
  7. Glad you caught that. You're on the ball today.
  8. I'm finding it a tad humorous that this one guy has just suddenly opened your eyes. People have been snagging or "accidentally foul hooking" big trout in clear water for as long as I can remember. Hell I've done it. Alot of times they just sit there and let you bounce flys off their noses. Stocker Trout are stupid, even the big ones. If an Eagle swooped down and nailed one you'd think that was the coolest thing you ever seen....and you'd wanna see it again and again. So really, what's the difference ? Snagging one with a fly is harder than pouncing on one from behind with a wicked set of meat hooks (talons). Why the lack of animosity for eagles and ospreys ?
  9. I've heard tell of a 13 pounder caught back in the late 60's. Smitty's bait shop (used to be on the strip) had pics taken with an old Brownie camera. It was definitely over 10 for sure. Enormous head and a tail wider than a Falstaff beer can
  10. White bass don't mind dirty water one bit. They thrive in the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. When visability is next to nothing they will hug the bank or the bottom. As it clears up they will spread out more. In really dirty water if you can find ONE you can usually make 15 casts to the same exact spot and limit out in no time.
  11. Regardless of early warm spells the Whites never show up in the creeks on LO until April, usually during a high water event. And only if the lake level is at or above 657.5 Table rock area Whites typically proceed ours by about 2 weeks.
  12. I can tell by the tone of that post that Al and Mary are NOT helping make America great again.
  13. Oh wait...... I thought at first it was DURING a guide trip, but I see a kill lanyard on the "client", which suggests that he was driving the boat. Either way, that's a genuine Hawg.
  14. Way to go, Jack ! HotDamn !
  15. If it is a black one, absolutely. Originally your motor came with the black 4wire stator. That stator was determined to be a POS and the upgrade is a red (kit) stator. Pretty pricey but without it you'll be plagued with repeated failures. As always, Mercury's M.O. is to hurry up and toss engines out there on the market (get them sold) THEN worry about improvements as the failures occur. Sometimes they happen during the warranty period and they have to make it right. Other times they happen later and YOU get to pay for it. Shitty way to do business but that's how they roll. Nevertheless you need to have the stator output test done before doing anything else. Troubleshooting in the proper sequence is the only way to fix it right the first time.
  16. When we got the big flood in December alot of heavily stained water backed up in LO. This isn't typical "muddy water" where suspended particles are causing the murkiness and when the particles settle the water clears back up. What we have here now is water that actually has permanent color to it (like tea/coffee). It can only clear up by being replaced/diluted with clearer water....and that's gonna take awhile. The Niangua cleared up pretty quick because, for one, the dirty water from the Osage did not back up into that arm of the lake as much, the current coming in from the Niangua river was almost greater than the current coming down the Osage. And secondly the clearer flow from the Niangua after it fell out quickly began to push the mud and stained water right back out. Smaller tributaries like the Gravois, Glaize, ect. just don't have the volume of flow to replace the heavily stained water as quickly. So in short, LO isn't going to clear back up until it has a complete transfusion. And like Warrior said.....I'm good with it now that it has warmed up. Warming heavily stained water is conducive to some awesome shallow fishing.
  17. I'm gonna take you on a trip, ya ready? OK here we go.... Dude, it can actually rain fish and frogs. No really! http://m.livescience.com/32170-can-it-really-rain-fish.html
  18. You need to have a stator output test. Your switch box (it isn't called a "Power pack" on a Merc ) has a low speed and a high speed circuit, and so does the stator. You are probably getting spark at idle but loosing it upon acceleration because the high speed circuit of the stator is out. This is very common. The switch box you replaced is probably fine. Look under the flywheel, if your stator is black then it has the dual circuit. If it is red it has been updated. I bet it's black.
  19. I'm gonna take a SWAG here and say that probably the reason trailer tires fail prematurely is because they generally sit still for too long. I bet if you roll them around every few days they'll last until they are bald. Maybe Jack the trailer up and put it on jackstands, keep the weight off ONE side of the tire for weeks at a time when you can't go fishing. What this means is that you aren't fishing enough !
  20. I like cool numbers. Just make sure they contrast with the hull color and nobody will hassle you.
  21. You'll need property tax receipts from 2015 and the titles or bill of sale on everything (boat/motor/trailer). It's gonna cost about 60.00 or so. You'll receive MO titles in a week or so.
  22. I have tried to get into the carp thing but I guess the real thrill for me is in the strike. Waiting for something to come slugging along and gingerly sip in my fly is boring as hell. I like fish that chase and crush !
  23. Champ, OP doesn't have to fight as hard with his wife when he buys one, so the muscle soreness, bruises, and black eyes are less frequent. Those Berkely rods are actually pretty darn good for the money. A little soft for my taste, they could use a few more guides and better attention on spacing, but for 30.00 they may be the best low priced rods out there. The old "Made in Mexico" Lightening rods were surprisingly nice for their cost. Quantum has a line of low priced IM6 rods that are pretty decent too. What alot of people don't pretend to know is that many of the higher priced rods are just fancier handles, real seats, and guides put on standard old "blah" rated blanks. Some are even painted, probably to hide the inferior/uneven scrim wrap. I am really skeptical of any bass rod with a price in the 200.00-300.00 range, because I know that a truly fine blank and good components cannot be bought for that. Rods in the 80-150.00 range are usually the best deal. And perfectly sufficient for bass fishing. 200-300.00 rods are gouging you somehow. You're paying for something other than actual quality throughout. 400.00+ rods are really sweet....but are a gross overkill for bass fishing IMO. That kinda sweetness has no business on the deck of a bass boat.
  24. The crew at Ameren are rediculis. What are they drawing it down so far for? We get one flood and now they grossly over-react upon every weather forecast. Maintainng a reasonable pool level used to be no problem at all, but now it seems to be nearly impossible for them. WtF?
  25. Well good! Sorry about that, New Orleans.
