  1. Preserving the beauty ? With the signs below the high water mark ? Your "pass on by" request sounds as if you take issue with someone stepping out of their boat while along YOUR 5 miles of frontage. Is that the case here?
  2. Very few "quality" spincast reels exist because the initial Design of their Operation/function was an idea that should have been scrapped 40 years ago. Wasn't it originally the brainstorm of someone who was bored at a bomb factory ?
  3. WTH are you doing fishing the LAKE now ??? This is river/creekin' weather! Ya wanna hit a nearby stretch ? I'm going "somewhere" about noon today as long as it isn't threatening a T-storm.
  4. Make that a "Hell Yeah" then.
  5. Ahh yes, the Dove season opener; Sweat rusts the bolt and reciever on your shotgun, the dogs are panting too hard to smell anything, and mite infested birds spoil before you can get them on ice.
  6. Yeah there is undoubtedly more lake traffic this weekend than there has been all Summer. I/O's are blowing up right and left, PWC's crashing into each other, ect. The watercraft accident/casualty statistic (which was already equal to 2013 a month ago) is likely to set an all time high. All of the increased "awareness" and intense law enforcment hasn't helped anyone but the lawyers so far.
  7. Don't feel too bad about it, Mitch. I have sat around and shot the bull with a couple of MDC agents and fished a tournament with a MDC biologist where we discussed all manner of things throughout the day, and they all said worse things about "hunters/fishermen" (in general) then I have ever heard said about them. Give someone a title and a badge and immediately everyone without one becomes a dumbass with zero credibility.
  8. Get her a decent pink SPINNING reel (and rod) and scrap the spincast gear. If she truly cares to fish at all then she can learn to use spinning gear in 15 minutes. If she doesn't then just buy her a good book to read.
  9. I wouldn't mind getting paid to hang out at the river all night. Just saying'.
  10. "They don't have the funding or man power to do it." Do agents not get paid the same wage whether they are in the woods or sitting at home "on call" ? I wonder if a late night hotline call would even be responded to?
  11. Looks good on paper, I agree. But seldom pays off Anytime you have tons of the real thing to compete against for a bite it's gonna be a low odds gamble. Some say to use something bigger/smaller/brighter than the prevalent baitfish, others say to match the hatch. Flip a coin cuz neither is anything even close to a reliable strategy. The closest thing to a reliable method for catching shadball stalking fish is to wait until they blitz and throw ANYTHING in the middle of them. Then wait until they blitz again. If you keep throwing at them when they aren't excited enough to chase then you are probably just teaching the fish what NOT to bite when the urge to gorge strikes them.
  12. I'm in no way agreeing that I am a part of any "gang" or clique, but here's a truth that tends to be a typical scenario... A group of folks plan a gravel bar fish fry. They pack all the cooking stuff, drinks, plates, grills, and sides. Then they hit the river and "well $#!t" for one reason or another the suckers are hard to find that night, and it ain't looking so good for the feast and nobody thought to bring some ribs or something ELSE to eat (just in case). So at that point anything that gets under the gig is Rock & Roll. The party was a success, everyone had a killer time, nobody got in trouble, and NOW the group knows how to salvage a bad night. Sure they'd rather eat suckers, but if suckers are few, or running small, there is STILL gonna be a gravel bar fish fry. That there is some truth for ya.
  13. During the bow hunting "boom" of the mid-80's - early 90's everyone was down on bow hunters because too many deer were being gut shot and wasted. It was a fact and you had to be totally blind to dispute that it was a problem. Over time, better ethics and better equipment evolved....and bowhunters (as a whole) gradually regained their respect and dignity. Gigging has had ample opportunity to evolve, and advancements (gear & skills) that SHOULD lessen the oops factor are easily obtainable yet the giggers (as a whole) are failing miserably, meaning that too many game fish are STILL being stuck. So to anyone interested in getting into gigging I have a request; Get it RIGHT or GTFO of it until you are good enough at it to do it proper.
  14. Man, what a mess! Sorry to hear of such an outcome. Simple things can sure go bad in a hurry.
  15. I believe you.
  16. Damm! How fast were they "fishing" I wonder ?
  17. Wonder if Camp Zoe could have avoided prosecution & seizure via the posting of a simple warning sign such as this ? Anyone who else see the parallel here ?
  18. Whites tend to blitz and gorge....then chill awhile. Trying to tempt them into biting when they are in temporary chill mode is usually nothing but casting practice. Make a dozen casts where they are hanging out, if you get no love then set your rod down and don't show it to them again for 15-20 minutes (unless they blitz before that).
  19. Well, you won't see that one again. RIP Mike Fiore. I'm not into it either, but judging by the amount of money made last weekend plenty of others are. Shiekh Hassan and the Spirit of Qatar pretty much put a lid on the LO powerboat scene for awhile I'd say. It'll be a long time before that 244mph record gets broken.
  20. Daryk, if you are simply clipping the exposed TM leads to a battery then a breaker/fuse really isn't a must have. But if you are extending the leads via a hidden (built in to the boat) harness then it becomes more important. On your 10' jon setup the hull is not grounded, so if a wire gets rubbed raw and makes contact with the hull no sparks are gonna fly. And even if they do there's no fuel onboard. Fuse links and/or circuit breakers come in various designs and can be purchased at any marine dealership or auto parts store.
  21. Yeah you just can't factor in piss and the chemicals fed to the pissers. If you're gonna go THERE then we're gonna have to go all Georgia guidestones on this deal. Stream Team #2803
  22. Yeah well, bass boat manufacturers beat them to that one a long time ago with front AND rear units standard on all models, but then all YOU lazy idiots could think to do was slap seats on top of them !
  23. LMAO @ the duct tape reference ! I guess if you're on bigtime lockdown your options of things to play with are pretty limited. Things you could make out of poop; Chess set. Crayons. OK nevermind, my brain is headed somewhere I'd rather not go.
