  1. The Beatty's were incredible tyers, but I get the feeling that they spent way more time tying than they did fishing what they tyed. The list of creative fly tyers that actually do much fishing is shorter than you might think. Davy McPhail is a perfect example.
  2. Let's see YOU try to keep up with that guy. He flat wears me out !
  3. Just for the record, I've been noncompliant on the felt ban since the first mention of it. I'll accept the fine if anyone can produce a single spore of active didymo from my boots.
  4. I beg your pardon. That was NOT the peppermint twist, that was a Coachman Trude doing the Fishless Fandango !
  5. Oddly enough it does. I learned that while experimenting with Henry Cowen's "Coyote" fly. The hide, when soaked, has more mass and wants to ride FUR UP. Not even the metal blade underneath will keep a Coyote fly oriented correctly if the fur strip is tied in the way you THINK it should be. I had to scrap 10 of the friggin things and retie them.....so I'm convinced now.
  6. It isn't stiff. Once it gets wet those little legs and tails move like LEGS & TAILS. It's the same chenille that the infamous San Juan worm is made of.
  7. Oh I know. I only gave you crap about it because you have given me crap about "following the science". Things like this are why I'm an incurable skeptic, and question everything.
  8. Yeah I've shot them. Too light, no energy past 20 yards.
  9. I wasn't aware that center-fire LEAD FREE rifle ammo even existed, other than shotshells. WTH are the bullets made from?
  10. Well what are they hunting with then? Have they all gone to archery only? They'll have a serious overpopulation of all kinds of sickly critters before long. Hunting serves a purpose. Missouri needs to kill more deer as it is. Alot more. CWD probably never would have been a thing if the population had been kept in check. I doubt that it's solely the high-fence deers fault. People around here can't even go to their mailbox without seeing 3-5 deer. It's rediculous.
  11. Dude, you've forgotten who your talking to 🙄 You're afraid of squirrels, for Christ sake. 🥴
  12. Before I'd take up trapping full time? Heck yeah I would. Cat converters are way easier for me to find than a dump truck load of fur bearers. Hell of a lot easier to process too. Just gimme a sawzall and some safety glasses.
  13. That sly ol'dog ! 👍
  14. Listen here Mr. Thunder penis, there's a reason why she isn't the one cooking dinner for me tonite, and it isn't because she wouldn't like to be. 😁
  15. I've known for years that groups of keeper sized bass suspended out in open water near release areas, but back then we couldn't actually pinpoint them and watch how they reacted to different bait presentations....in real time. Now that we can..... it's No Holds Barred. Suspended bass have been an untouched fishery forever, until now. Master that and you're a threat to win ANY tournament in nothing but a 14' Jon boat with a trolling motor.
  16. With the introduction of livescope I think everyone is learning alot about bass movements lately, and quite a bit of it is contrary to what we all have assumed for years. The number and sizes of bass that just sit out in the middle of nowhere, suspended, is astounding. I'm left wondering though, if the majority of THOSE fish are tournament releasee's that are simply lost....or if that is just a natural behavior trait in lakes with an abundance of shad. All of my life I have been fishing for bass that are in or near cover of some sort.....But guys are locating schools of heavy bass nowadays that are 1/4 mile from anything that even resembles cover, and they are catching them consistently. A little 9 boat derby last Tuesday resulted in 5 limits in the 20+lb. range. Using livescope and jerkbaits in open water. If that's not an eye opener I don't know what is. 😳
  17. I suppose today's equivalent would be swiping catalytic converters, hu? 😁
  18. It's driving me crazy. I'm about to message her and see if she remembers what it is called. We're on good terms..... but her husband probably won't like it. 😂
  19. Here's one that would be a good practice fly for a new tyer. Nothing but 2 different sizes of Ultra Chenille.
  20. Is it even possible to ban it for the purpose of making ammo and fishing weights without also banning it for making computers and the myriad of other electronic items ?
  21. You made enough money trapping to buy a piece of real estate ? Holy balls!
  22. I wish I could remember. A temporary girlfriend heard about it and we looked it up online and was going to check it out....but never did. I wanna say that it was north of Long Branch. There were pics of it online (that looked really nice) and information about the special regs that were different from the normal statewide regs. That's why I looked in the Wildlife Code, but there was no mention of it at all in there. I remember there being sailboats on the lake in the pics. I'm not too sure that we didn't have a big boy scout jamboree there when I was a kid.
  23. It's confusing. Not all state parks with hunting/fishing access are listed by the MDC as places to hunt/fish. But Bennett Spring and Montauk are. There's a lake up North (name escapes me at the moment) that is a state park run by the DNR.....but MDC has nothing to do with it. It has special regulations that are not even mentioned in the Wildlife Code book.
  24. So you're telling me that MDC and their Stream Teams are doing the DNR's job then ?
  25. Look up "MDC partners annual report". It's in there somewhere.
