I hope y'all have a quality outing. 👍 Looking forward to the pics 🙂 -
What are you listening to?
fishinwrench replied to Bushbeater's topic in New News and General Discussion
Woah 😳 Although it's now noon..... it's still a bit early for THAT. 😂 -
I was down there once when they shut Norfork dam down after someone drove a truck down on the gravel bar below where the kiddie pool dumps in, and busted a hole in their oil pan. Seemed like BS to me, because it wasn't going to hurt anything to start it up and drive it 100 feet without oil. We were thrilled though because it allowed us another 2 hours of fishing time, and the initial bump dumped a bunch of shad. It was the best 2 hours of fishing I ever had down there.

February 2022 Ozark Anglers Crane Creek trip

I can't argue any of that, except the claim that I (in my relatively short life) have seen the WORST drought in the Missouri Ozarks past. Hell, I specifically remember it being so dry, for so long, that a set of keys or a 12ga. Shotgun shell could be lost forever simply by dropping them in the yard. And if you were listening.....I visited Crane and the creek around Hurley when they were practically dry as a bone. If there was any water downstream then it would have been far too warm and stagnant for any transplanted California trout to survive in. But hey, I'm sure that you probably believe with all your heart in far more outrageous things than the Crane creek story. So whatever floats your boat. 👍 -
Since you referred to them as "Bully Spiders" then I'm guessing they are weighted near the bend, and designed to be fish "on the fall" (as they sink). If so, then I think the silicone legs are too long (likely to fowl on the cast), and should be spread out around the circumference of the shank rather than clumped up on top of the shank. I'm a fan of the hook choice. The curved body looks better to me than the straight pear shaped body of the original Bully. 👍

PSA: Check your air pressure
fishinwrench replied to snagged in outlet 3's topic in General Angling Discussion
Oh I hate it too. What I hate even worse are onboard computers that collect and process that info......and then alter various other operating systems in an attempt to reduce emissions and "PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT". I bought this vehicle, paid the sales tax and license fees required, and bygod I am going to be the captain of it. If I choose to ignore a warning light....then I demand the ability to do so. Do NOT reduce the amount of drivability that I may need to get back home. That kinda programming is BS !!! -

You have to check them at noon on a Thursday, or they'll never be the same. 🙂 -
February 2022 Ozark Anglers Crane Creek trip

😂. That BUB fly in a #10-12 is a killer bluegill fly. I'm not denying that trout were put in Crane during the '20's anymore than I'd deny that trout were put in Bennett Spring then too. But to believe that no stockings have been done since, is rediculous. Neosho and Rockbridge are not that far away. -

😂 The TU group is likely responsible for perpetuating that story in the first place. If not them, then who? Just out of curiosity, what was the earliest date of that tale being told? Was it told in the 1950's? 1960's? 1970's? 1980's? I know when I first heard it. When did you? I first visited the place during a drought period. And as far as historic droughts go.....that one wasn't nearly as severe and long lasting as several before that. Honestly the "stream" was reduced to a damp ditch with a series of isolated puddles. Nothing but pollywogs, a few crawdads, and some water bugs. I can only imagine what it was like during the 1930-1940 dust bowl era. But yet those fish have been in there since the '20's ? No friggin way. -

Better yet, just go ahead and turn Crane into another trout park. The community would benefit, and it's high time for everyone to face reality and let go of that "McCloud" fable. There's already more than enough BS feel-good tales in everyday society for people to believe in if they need to. Why do we have to keep that one going in the world of flyfishing? 🙄 -
If you're referring to issues with Lithium power cells, then I honestly don't. I still have some stuff to learn...... but truthfully I'm not so sure that I even want to. I'd prefer to just not get involved with them. I have seen the results of 2 total meltdowns so far, and I couldn't figure out the cause in either case. I'm nervous of things that I don't have a solid understanding of.

It doesn't have to "boil over". The gases alone, produced from a boiling battery, will attack everything in the bilge area if it's not properly vented. 👍 If you are running down the lake then your bilge area is venting fine. But if your boat is sitting in your garage or driveway with the hatch lids down while you are charging at 50 amps...... then it is definitely not venting well AT ALL.

Yeah, if you want "performance enhancement" then run without the grates.....I dare ya😁 You'll definitely notice the throttle response improvement....if that's what's important to ya. You won't have to worry about leaves either. 🙂 -

You're not getting any referrals closer to you, so I'll throw out my friends/customers at Martin Metal in Versailles, Mo. They travel, do excellent work, and are very price competitive. You might wanna give them a call. -
Fly fishing Taneycomo Rod Recommendations

Bob Gaston, probably the best midge fisherman I ever knew, ruled on the San Juan and did everything on a Cortland 9' 6wt. He would tie a #22-24 on 5x, would stand right next to you and keep you so busy netting his fish that you didn't have time to make a cast of your own. -

Jackson doesn't even know who I am....YET. I have a few presents for him the next time I'm at Taney and have time to visit. 👍 -

Orion does great in the canoe, and actually does good in all kinds of boats, but here on Lake O he tries to get me in trouble because he has an uncontrollable urge to hop out and go poking around houses and has to pee in everybody's yard. -

I just wanna hug him 🤗 Some days I wish Phil would just point the camera at Jackson during the One Cast. 🙂 -
A periodic hard 50A charge boils the battery and knocks the air bubbles loose that get hung up between the plates......which then increases the surface area of plates that the electrolyte can make contact with. You can do this manually (at 10A) by simply grabbing your battery and shaking it around......or by tapping on it with a rubber mallet. Don't ever charge your batteries at 50amps without plenty of air circulation. The stuff that enters your bilge area during a hard 50amp boil is highly corrosive, and will attack everything back there. This is why your outboard (with a 40amp output stator) is equipped with a voltage regulator. A failed VR can cause a battery to boil dry, and rot your transom. Just a little FYI from dickhead Wrench 🙂

I was at Barclay once when the stocking truck showed up, stood there talking to the guys and watched them dump 250 or so fish (we'll call it 300 just to be safe....but definitely no more than 300). Then the very next day I saw on the dry erase board at the park store they had the stocking date for the river, and it said "5000". Now wait a minute 🤔 Even if they dumped double the amount at the 2 other locations (64 bridge and NRO) that only amounts to 1500........which is a far cry from 5000 I wish I could exaggerate my productivity by simply writing down a number! Maybe on the next bank deposit I make......I should add a couple zeros to the deposit slip. Hell yeah! 👍
-
I don't see how less trout stocked is going to increase the number of suckers and goggle eye. In all reality, if they pawn off the Bennett/Niangua stockings to the guys at Shepherd....then it's highly likely that they'll do a better job of it than the clowns at Bennett have done for the last 15 years.

Yeah, and it's those stories that the media appears to be consistently ignoring. The whole Covid vaccination thing is so obviously media driven that it just cries for skepticism. It has become it's own religion, literally.
-
Sucks to hear that story......But there remains a question in my mind, and should in yours too....... Had she not had the injections would she have still stood up and passed out ? A customer of mine had a heart attack and died while out fishing 2 weeks after having the second shot. 54 years old, non-smoker, casual/responsible beer drinker, and never had any real health issues his whole life. His wife (now widow) works at a nursing home and just INSISTED that he get vaccinated.......and now he's gone. 😢 That hits home in more than one way....cuz he died owing me over 1200.00 Oh well! 🤷♂️
