  1. So far, everyone I know that dabbled in Tenkara for a bit, doesn't do it anymore. Has anyone been at it for more than a year?
  2. I bet that's where the pile of burnt squirrels ended up. Bon appetit ! 😋
  3. It's all so touristy. 😐 Reminds me of the Bagnell dam strip. If they are so proud of what it used to be.....then why'd they change it?
  4. Yeah it is 😳 Someone, who is still on the loose, felt the need to destroy evidence. 🤔
  5. Really? Where else in MO can you keep your dryfly game tuned up at? So that when the opportunity presents itself you aren't flogging around like a total newb for the first hour or so of prime activity? Trout park dinks take dry flys just like wild trout on REAL RIVERS do. I'm betting that your elite confidence just hasn't been tested lately. You're overdue to be humbled. 😊 My kid got her practice in for the Fall/Winter bite on more prestigious flows. 👍 Notice how she learned to stand just a rod and arm length away from the current seam? Yeah, she can thank the old man for THAT one. 😁 And I need a periodic tune up myself from time to time.
  6. I don't get that at Bennett, but what I do get is lots of practice perfecting presentations, detecting strikes, and setting hooks. Trout are trout. Do you even carry fly gear in your boat? We got alot of milage at camp terrifying the kids with story's about the Windyville cannibals. It's a good thing that @fshndoug wasn't as heartless as I was, and didn't mind escorting them to the outhouse all night. 😂
  7. You're a bone-headed "gear" fisherman though. You can be satisfied catching crappie with a Snoopy pole off a dock. I ain't trying to win any tournaments, or feed the whole Catholic church congregation twice a month. I'm just out to be one with nature, enjoy myself, relax and feed my inner soul. 🧘
  8. Yeah I got a kick out of that 😁 The guys at Fitz's Tackle blew all that smoke about.... "Whatever bait wins the BBB can be bought HERE!" Guess what?......They ain't got one. 😂 Those guys are SO full of theirselves. 🙄
  9. I threw a big fit and boycotted the place for a number of years. But eventually I cracked because the river became so hit & miss. Sometimes you just wanna catch something, and the park is still a good place to spar and keep your skills honed. I just avoid the "fish barrels" and leave them for the cigar chewing city-boy gapers.
  10. I totally get it, and it pissed me off too. The High bank stretch was the only pure & natural piece of water on the whole stream (within the fly-fishing zones). And throwing in a hatchery outflow pipe did screw things up there. Before the pipe was installed those fish positioned in the riffle or in the run. Now 70% of them are just nosed up to the pipe like hogs on a bucket of corn.
  11. Yep, that crew has it figured out. They know exactly what they are doing. MDC should cancel their "Urban trout" idiocy until they can remember how to produce fish again. They took a crap on the "ribbon streams" to support that BS it seems.
  12. Ok well..... the weekend offered 3 levels......Wet, Wetter, and Wettest. The vendor tents were cool, as always. Lots of fun talking to everyone. Definitely spent some money, and scored some very sweet deals on rods/reels/line/ and quality rain gear. The riverside movie got blown out by a thunderstorm shortly after starting. The river conditions started off low & clear, then came up just a bit and truly could/should have been awesome....but fished pathetic because apparently the Bennett hatchery can't produce trout over 12" anymore, and are rediculously stingy... even with those. 🙄 It's borderline insulting really. I wish the MDC Trout program would pull it together and show some pride in their work. Freakin' excuse making/money wasting losers! 😠 Good grief! So yeah, if you're wondering what the Niangua trout fishery has to offer currently...,. it's Casting Practice. So if you need some of that, c'mon down.
  13. Darn right 👍 Old School Scout! 😊 Ya know what they do in Boy Scouts nowadays? Geo-tracking, GPS Scavenger hunts, and learning about operating Drones. Throw one of these pussies a compass today and they'll think it's a fidget spinner. 🙄
  14. It looks just like any other log.....until you try to use it for firewood. Throwing a few pieces of elm onto a perfectly good campfire, is no different than pissing on the fire. Oozing juice and lots of pungent smoke. Therefore...."Piss Elm". You never noticed that?
  15. I have a piss elm tree behind my shop that looks like a helicopter tried to land in it. I bet it's the same critter.
  16. I carry a knife and cigarette lighter everywhere I go. 👍
  17. Well there's an interesting factoid for ya. As long as you aren't the one doing the killing...... you're allowed to eat any cadavers you happen across. Who knew!?!?!?
  18. Like......What possesses a man......????? At least the Christians of the area can blame it on Satan. I don't know WHO to even blame that on. The government, that's who I'm gonna blame it on. Maybe that whole reptilian baby eater thing is real after all. 🤷
  19. Sadly you're right. Good grief, I had way more faith in folks. There goes that !
  20. If it doesn't dump another round on us it'll be fine. But one more deluge and my attitude is going to go south real quickly. 🙄
  21. I hope so. Thanks!!! 😁 Beautiful so far.
  22. So that's where ya go to get recipes for spleen, hu? Interesting ! 😳
  23. Well...... 😳 https://crimesceneinvestigations.blogspot.com/2021/09/remains-found-on-phelps-property-during.html?m=1
  24. Weather is nice (for now) River is low and clear. Just waiting to have fun. 🙂
