βItβs a 24/7 live operated hotline,β Skalicky says. βItβs not something like if you call on a Friday night we get to it on Monday. 24/7 thereβs somebody manning that hotline and they can connect you, you being the caller, with an agent and help investigate this.
Gotta call BS on THAT ONE. Gross and blatant gigging of freshly stocked Trout, and several Smallmouth was reported between NRO and Barclay on the Niangua.....and after 4 days had past not a single MDC person even showed up to go look at them.

TRL Outboard repair for 250hp pro xs 4s?
fishinwrench replied to seabass03's topic in Table Rock Lake
Not generally, no. And I'm not 100% sure that the PXS is.....but that's the only reason I can think of to explain why they don't offer a replacement timing chain for a motor that is only a year or two old. Typically most non-interference engines have timing BELTS. And interference engines have timing CHAINS. I haven't done a full study on the bigger 4-stroke outboards.... because other than doing regular maintenance, there's no sense in me ever learning to work on them. I know that I'll never-ever be rebuilding one. As for WHY they might be designed that way......To increase compression and make for cleaner emissions. Definitely. No other reason. -

There certainly could be. They quit stocking them in Lake O thirty-some years ago...... but looky here: -

Yeah, best to stay calm and give them a fair chance to treat you good. π€ Paying for any extended warranty offer just feels like a scam to me.....but I have absolutely no experience with it, so my advice is worthless there. As hard as it is going to be to get parts for that motor in 6-8 years, personally, I wouldn't even consider it unless it was REALLY CHEAP. Take that extended warranty money and go buy lottery tickets with it. π -
Hidden Valley campground. Redington Home Waters event.

Reps from Sage/Reddington, Rio, Fishpond, Grunden, Simms, Towee, Smithfly, Clacka will be there for sure. As well as some other local, regional, and far-far away outfits. Always a good time...... except that one year when it rained all freakin' weekend and you couldn't even keep a campfire going. My group is gonna be at the 5 primitive sites closest to the island (10-14). Come see us! π -

Kudo's for staying on them. Mine have elected to just stop eating, for the most part.....or so it seems. They are smacking or body slamming my flys, but I'm not connecting with them very consistently. This has been going on for over a week. It's frustrating. -
TRL Outboard repair for 250hp pro xs 4s?
fishinwrench replied to seabass03's topic in Table Rock Lake
Correct. I believe the Merc XS 4-stroke is an interference engine (meaning that if the timing chain breaks, the piston will hit the valves..... trashing everything). Therefore there is no point in offering a replacement timing chain. π The timing chain is an integral part of the powerhead......just as the crankshaft is on a 2-stroke...... BUT you can still buy a replacement 2-stroke crankshaft. π What I'm curious about NOW, is how long our boy @seabass03 is gonna have to wait to get it back in service, and whether his warranty will begin again ? Hopefully they won't claim that it was his fault for not following proper "break-in procedure". π -

TRL Outboard repair for 250hp pro xs 4s?
fishinwrench replied to seabass03's topic in Table Rock Lake
Should be a quick fix then π I'll tell ya what bugs me, is that the dealerships are not working on older motors hardly at all, and the fact that they claim to constantly be 4-7 weeks booked on WARRANTY repairs......Well that's just troubling. Isn't it ? When I say that I'm 2 weeks buried, that doesn't mean that someone that comes in with a job that can be taken care of in 1 hour or less is going to have to wait 2 weeks...... I'll squeeze it in. Walk through any dealership, at any time, and you'll see mechanics/techs just standing around scratching their balls, in perfectly clean uniforms. π -

When the key is turned to the on position can you hear the fuel pump engage? (Faint whirring sound) -
That's a sweet looking rig. The walleye/crappie/catfish/striper guys should be all over that.

And I'd take that bet. βοΈπ

Y'all act like you were planning to round up the kids and go there. π Some buddy's and I poked around in some caves around Godfrey and Alton back in the '80s.......I have no desire at all to ever visit them again. Saw a hand and an arm in one, and freaked us out pretty good. Turned out to be a piece of a mannequin. π . Otherwise just lots of trash and graffiti.

When I croak and my wife starts pawning off all my stuff, just offer her 1/3 of what she's asking. She has no hagglin'/wheelin'/dealin' skills whatsoever. She'll spend 1000.00 on stuff, throw it in a closet....wait a year and then sell it in a yard sale for 20.00 And then BRAG about how much she made in the yard sale.

Slip of the finger there, Detective. Is there someone else on here you can stalk until I can complete a post? π

Gary Seneker (aka: Brownieman on here), from Salem, was a good friend of mine. I assume he was your uncle ? He had the patent info, numerous baits, and the blueprints for the Judges Jawbreaker. What happened to all of his stuff after he died?

After all the crap Mercury has went through, and all of the stuff they practically had to give away for free in order to be the ONLY outboard manufacturer in the U.S. (gotta be first, gotta be the fastest, gotta be a black motor on the back of every new boat, ect. ect.).... And now that they have it....they can't perform, and can't keep up with demand. WTF is wrong with them? π€¬.
-
You can always count on ME for that. π
-
Good for you ! π So, what did you buy to replace it ?
-
Honestly, it isn't that nobody knows how to fix them......it is that it isn't cost effective or even feesable to fix them, because the design is sketchy. In my case, my reputation is important, and if I attempt a fix on a 4-stroke then I know I'll have to own it when it fails again.....which it undoubtedly will. And when it does, the customer will swear that it's MY fault instead of Mercury Marine's or Yamaha's fault for selling a POS to begin with. This is why (other than regular maintenance service) I won't even touch them. When they fail I send them right back to the dealer that sold it to them. "Oh, not in business anymore hu?". Well that sucks. Sorry π€· I wonder why? Now I have to be a jerk (in their eyes).....And what do they do???? Go right out and buy another one from the same manufacturer. It's enough to make me wanna bang my head against a tree. π

Before purchasing ANY new outboard, people need to start requesting something in writing, from the manufacturer, assuring that parts will be available far beyond the piddly warranty period. Otherwise they have no business selling these things for the prices they are getting. The crap they are pulling is un-american as all hell !
