  1. Yeah I get that, but Buffalo on this lake have only one place to hang out and do what buffalo do. Much of the lake has been disrupted so much that they overpopulate in the few areas where big boats and the hoards of people don't go. They are spooky solitary critters for the most part, and don't become pets like carp do.
  2. I could certainly be proven wrong but I don't get excited about the WP or buzzbait bite until late Fall. To me, Springtime topwater stuff needs to move alot without traveling very far, or sit still. Poppers, Spooks, Hollow bodied frogs....stuff like that.
  3. The bowfishers did a good thing here. The Buffalo population was definitely out of hand, and they thinned those suckers out in less than 3 years. If you've ever tried to sneak up on shallow LM bass/whites/hybrids when there are 200 buffalo between you and your targeted species you'd fully understand how too many buffalo can ruin your day. They are gone now, and I'm glad. They have put a noticable dent in the gar population too, which needed to be done (I think).
  4. Sometimes the screen freezes if I stop in the middle of typing a post. Not sure if it's my device or not but it doesn't happen anywhere else. Usually if I hit refresh and wait a bit it will straighten out. Other times I get tired of waiting and decide that what I was about to say wasn't important anyway.
  5. The only true niche I've found for the WP is being able to make a really long cast parralel to the bank and keep it coming at the speed that makes the most noise, no pauses/twitches. The fish tend to follow it for a ways, sometimes until yet another fish begins to follow it also, then one of them will get anxious and hammer it. IMO the only thing that makes it better than anything else is the fact that you can cast it 1/4 mile.
  6. It's a mental illness. The fish aren't biting the way you think they should and you are temporarily lacking creativity and independent thought. Pick a cove or small creek arm and don't leave until you have figured out where some fish are located in it, and what technique(s) will make them bite. Take plenty of food and a sleeping bag just in case it takes more than one afternoon.
  7. Looks like a 308 with a weak bail spring. 😀
  8. Everybody wants to be me!
  9. It drives me crazy when people refer to all guns as "weapons". Some, like that snub nosed revolver and short barreled pistols, truly are good for nothing but killing someone at close range, so I guess the term "weapon" is appropriate. If a gun has any other use at all though I really wish people would stop calling them that. Don't know why, it just bugs the heck out of me. Those shows on the Outdoor network are among the worst. You're turkey hunting for Christ sake, that thing in your hand is not a WEAPON, you tactical warriors, it's called a shotgun !
  10. You are required to register guns bought used, or inherited now ? If so, that's crazy. I'm glad I'm not a bigtime gun buff anymore, there's too much BS associated with it now.
  11. Excellent idea! Let's trade lives for a day. Orion has a tick on his butthole, so you can start on that while you give me my orders.
  12. I had one hanging out by my mailbox. Sorry, but he had to go. One got my dog on the paw last year, and judging from the distance between fang marks he/she was a biggun, and he (the dog) wasn't far from the house when it happened. Cost me 350.00 at the vet. I haven't seen that one yet but if I ever do it's a goner. No regrets.
  13. Well that's the best any of us can hope for, so I'll settle for it. ?
  14. From their electro-fishing surveys and biological expertise, with a few notes thrown in from brief angler encounters and speaking to baitshop owners. Am I close?
  15. Pardon me for saying so out loud, but the MDC "fishing report" is among the most worthless compilation of words since the ancient scribes. You'll get way more accurate and up to date info from the accountants and ditch diggers that pop in here from time to time. And it's FREE.
  16. The water is dirty and there is a good shallow bite. Noisy topwater stuff, spinnerbaits, squarebill cranks, and pitchin' jigs to shallow wood and docks will get you bit. Have fun!
  17. You bring a handful of those here in late October and I'll run us over to a little place where I know they'll get smashed ! ??
  18. Well WTH are you changing it for ? ? Send me your old one, I'll probably get 2 more years out of it.
  19. That's a cute little booger! I'm a big fan of the Outbound Short too. Have you noticed that they cast and behave the best right before they start rotting off the core ?
  20. In an amateur event....the cost of enough lead/tungsten to make a difference is gonna equal more than you're likely to win. ? I mean really, if a dude presents pics of five 2 pounders, then submits a total weight of over 20# it's going to be pretty obvious. I don't believe there would be any more "cheating" than there already is.....which is next to NONE.
  21. That truly is great ! I sure hope it goes well and this is the beginning of change. ?
  22. A buddy of mine floated from Bennett to Barclay yesterday. He said it was about a foot high but fished pretty good, he caught a decent number of rainbows including 2 that were well above average size swinging a #8 leech on a sink-tip. Looks like it's gonna be mid-June before I get a shot at it.
  23. I wish I could have "my day" with Chatterbaits. So far a simple swim jig with a swimming Fluke trailer has outfished those things every single time. I'm on the verge of culling my collection of Chatterbaits so I can use the space for something else.
  24. In all actuality the water temps are just now getting to the prime temps for egg laying. Right about 72° is when it always happens for LM.
  25. Yeah I did too, but nobody listens to me. So my new deal is..... Take yourself to the ER, or call an ambulance, because I am NOT going, and I am not signing anything or paying the bill. Fair warning.
