  1. We started calling him Orion, looks like it's going to stick. He makes sure that I do plenty of star gazing late at night. Other than his short naps and frequent trips out to romp he has been really easy and a lot of fun. He is going along on a white bass trip tomorrow and I predict he'll sleep through much of it.
  2. There's a fleet of WP boats just sitting in dock slips at strategic locations and the officers who can operate them are just waiting for an excuse to leave the dock. So Call Them ! Report every illegal, immoral, or potentially threatening thing you see. Hell, even report things you THOUGHT you saw. For gods sake don't hesitate to give those guys something useful to do besides needlessly dragging a bunch of folks into lawyers offices and courtrooms over perfectly manageable beer buzz's! I monitor the scanner all the time, and they go hours (days sometimes) without a single complaint or report of suspicious activity, so they NEED to hear from you. It helps to justify their existence. By dog, if you're out there and you ain't smiling for whatever reason....then you should Call Them.
  3. Yeah well, I'm betting that there isn't as much "above idle 225 running" as some let on. Actually I'll go a step further and challenge anyone to produce a short video of any boat creating a significant wake on that lake that ISN'T a fire boat or other "special allowance craft". I'll mark it on my calendar and dig this thread up this time next year and remind you that the challenge still stands.
  4. I have tried telling countless people that just because their charger indicated that the battery is fully charged doesn't mean the battery is "OK"...... But it's like they don't believe me. A charger showing "fully charged" just means that the battery will not ACCEPT further charging. Dig an old rotten half-dry battery out of a ditch somewhere and hook a charger to it.... That sumbitch will either be "fully charged" immediately or in about 6 minutes. LOL
  5. Gotcha. I fish a similar pattern for Whites and smallies but I twist it and let it furl together for a thicker body. It fishes like a mini senko but casts like a wet dishrag. Fun fly to fish. I wish they made the stuff in Olive. It doesn't take dye very well.
  6. Yep that battery is toast. Continuing to use it will glaze over the brushes in your electric motor and cause it to loose power permanently..... Or until you have the coil contacts and brushes refaced.
  7. Thanks fellas. He has only been with us for less than 24hrs so his name is still up in the air. I was allowed to sleep in 2 hour intervals last night with 20 minute breaks in between to romp in the grass and check the stars. Orion was exceptionally brilliant at 3:45am, I'm sorry everyone else missed it Orion? Hmmmm
  8. I'd like to show my new little buddy to everyone before he chews the wrong shoe, or decides to sing the household to sleep on a school night and gets he and I both kicked to the curb.
  9. Yeah well, one close call with something big and mean enough to eat ya will un-ruin you I bet. It would Me!
  10. That place is a hog trough. Kudos to the anglers, but the hatchery personnel should be congratulated also. Very pretty fish !
  11. Regardless of what name we give it, I guess the only thing that matters is whether or not the fish you wanna catch are keyed in on them. And if they are, will something 3/16" long and "041" Tan in color do just fine ? I bet so.
  12. If you work your way further up the creek until the water gets clear, then turn around and idle back to the first couple of shallow flats that still have some color to the water I bet you'll find some bigger ones. All you need is just enough color that you can't easily see the bottom in 3-4' They are there all the time I think but they will swim around and ignore you for hours sometimes. The only predictable time is between 5:30 and dark.
  13. Maybe this is a sign that it's time to simplify things. Being a past tornado victim I know how it feels to loose ALL my gear, boats, rods, EVERYTHING.... not just the lures. When it came time to start rebuilding my fishing stuff I decided 3/4 of the stuff I had was unnecessary, and actually caused more anxiety than it did complacency. I am happier and more confident now with my fishing than I ever was before. Sometimes a "total system reset" is just what a guy needs.
  14. Good job! I've been hitting the shallow flats for them but success has been inconsistent and they only want to bite later in the evening. Did you catch many before 5pm ?
  15. It is likely not the bearing itself, but the bushing/spacer(s) up at the pinion allowing the lower shaft to creep downward. When you push up on the lower shaft does it reseat the bearing and eliminate the wobble ?
  16. Hmmm. Hard to say going by that pic. A drawing of it would probably be better.
  17. It has been ages since I fished TH but it used to be awesome for winter crappie and whites/hybrids. It gets pretty crowded at times since the Wintertime sweet-spot is kinda small. If I still lived closer I would hit it for sure, but I consider it too far to drive now. There's about a 20% chance that you'd hit it right and the drive would be worth it.
  18. Doesn't look like a caddis to me, unless that is an emerging pupa. Was that a flying bug or something you got out of the water ?
  19. Well that might be taking it a bit too far. If we truly respected them then removing and relocating them to some boat ramp miles from the area they have chosen to live would be way less popular. For some, loving the sport of finding and catching them just isn't enough. Not that I have any right to condemn that, because I did it myself for 24 years and still miss it from time to time. But still.... The process of detaining and weighing them seems less "respectful" than pushing them towards deeper water with the toe of a shoe.....Unless you call that "kicking", in which case it sounds much more mean and cruel. LOL Did you "pet" the dog, or did you "slap" him on his head?
  20. Kentucky's I'm sure. I filleted some bass tonite.
  21. About 8 strokes with a paddle will gain you more distance than 20lbs. worth of pre-charged cordless batterys.
  22. Speaking of loading the boat with crappie, check this out. The second and third throws are pretty impressive. Huge 3 Pound Crappie in the Cast Net:
