Somewhat related: What are you guys thoughts on this kinda crap? I have mixed feelings. #1) it's pretty obvious that this clown is pulling this crap to illicit a confrontation. But #2) coming from a generation that used to carry our shotguns to school in the back window of our trucks and hit the dove fields immediately after the 3:15pm bell rang, why do people totally freak out when they see a gun now? Are truck gun racks even legal anymore? And if you were to drive down a highway with a pair of shotguns/rifles visible to other vehicles nowadays would there be a roadblock up ahead soon? I almost bet there would. We've reached a point almost to where an unfamiliar non-hunting neighbor seeing you carry your shotgun from your house to your truck as you're on your way hunting just might result in you topping a hill 3 miles from your house and finding a roadblock with 6 AR's pointed at you. The media has done a grand job of freaking people out about guns, and the sound of gunfire. And that's why y'all are getting hassled during your duck hunts.

I just can't help but think that the disappointment would have been turned to rave reviews of said guide.....had you gotten 2 quality bites, and fish in the net, late in the day. Your guide I'm sure was banking/hoping for it. It was a gamble either way, and he shot for the win. Should he have ignored his gut and tried to persuade you into catching a few bass instead? I've been a guide in the same situation and always condoned sticking with what I know can work. What if he talked you out of trying for a big walleye, and you got skunked at bass fishing too? You might be pissed that he didn't allow you to put in more time on the walleye bite. Tough call any direction you go. What line of work are/were you in? (IYDMMA)

I assume that he was on time, you were in his boat and covered by his insurance, and he was friendly and as helpful as he could be? The guide fishing (and catching a few) had to help your confidence somewhat....at least you knew that some fish were nearby. Being disappointed that your trip fell on a tough day is justifiable. Raggin' any heavier than you already have on the guide is not. Can you be sure that you didn't have any bites at all? Consistent walleye success can never be guaranteed.

I do suspect that they have gotten a bit more stingy with the river stocking but they still report stocking about the same numbers as they always do, so who knows, really. There is one thing I notice about almost all the folks that fish powerbait, and it's that they always seem to spend all their time in deeper holes with little current. That's not the kind of spots where the trout are at alot of the time. Sometimes they are in faster water no deeper than your ankles, and other times they are in the slightly deeper tailouts immediately below the riffles, or other types of places....but I never see a bait soaker fishing anything but deep slow pools where there are comfortable places on the bank to sit down. Put in a little more effort and make things a little harder on yourself and I bet it will pay off in quicker limits. Just a suggestion.

It sounds like you have some debris in the cooling passages of the block. Pull the thermostat housing cover, remove the thermostat and spring and run it for a minute in clean water. It should blow water like crazy out of the thermo recess, and hopefully clear out most (or all) of the crap that might be blocking the narrow water passage. If it just barely pushes water out then you'll need to drop the jet pump and inspect the water pump impeller and housing. Inspect the rubber water tube grommet in the housing, and look below the pump plate to be sure there isn't a wad of debris collected there. If all looks good go ahead and install a fresh impeller and blow about 120psi compressed air directly up the water tube while taking note of the amount of air (and any debris) coming out of the thermostat hole. If there's any debris it will look like the crap on the bottom of your lawn mower deck....clumps of wet grass and wood debris). Only blow from the water tube UP, don't try to force any crud back down the tube....it won't come out that way. If it seems like you're not getting it all cleared out then the powerhead will have to be pulled so that all the cooling passages can be easily flushed out.

No it won't make it miss unless it is really pouring in there. Water in a cylinder just increases compression by displacement.

I don't go thru there daily but there's been a few piddling around down there. They looked to be pretty bored and without a plan. My impression is that it's pretty dead unless you wanna load the boat with asian carp or drum.

Yeah, cylinder head sealing issues are almost always related to an overheat. Probably wouldn't hurt to pull all the plugs and check for any signs of water in the cyls. (one or more plugs noticeably cleaner than the rest). If so you need to get the head(s) removed asap and hose it down with some WD-40 or something.

Thanks Mitch I'm a good ways from Rckawy though. Crap! Yup that's gonna be a head gasket failure. Swapping head gskts is not a "huge deal" in itself but you need to find out WHY it failed. They just don't start squirting for no reason. Has the motor ever overheated? (overheat horn ever gone off? ) The head(s) and thermo's need to be pulled, cleaned, checked for cracks/warpage, ect. It's good that you caught it early. Doesn't appear that it's been leaking very bad, or for very long. Expect about 4hrs. labor+parts, and don't settle for someone just swapping out the gasket and pushing it out the door without determining what allowed the gasket (or cyl. Head) to move. The "shift noise" is gonna be a seperate issue.

Can you post a pic, pointing to the spot where it was squirting out? If it is a thermostat housing gasket then it's not a big deal and you should be able to fix it yourself. Head gasket or exhaust cover gasket replacement is a bit more involved.

Water was squirting from the thermostat housing on the starboard side??? The noise during shifting I'd have to hear in real life.

I agree though, one piece rods need to be stored vertical, or left in the rod box of your boat. My "system" for THEM is a freakin mess!

Yes I have captured an Evanasaurous-Couchpotatus from these waters. Lured it with a white bass fillet, took it home and kept it alive overnight then transported it to a different watershed where it frolicked happily all day. Took pics, then released it. Haven't seen another one since, but occasionally I do hear one calling out from the West like a lonesome bullfrog.
