  1. Alot of folks do tend to get greedy when it comes to Whites. Just because the legal daily limit is 15 doesn't mean you have to load the freezer every time you find a school that is biting the way that whites are famous for. They really aren't like mushrooms where you had better "get them while you can". If you learn a bit more about them youll find that you can catch them all year....not just when they are on spawning runs, so there's really no need to hammer them so hard during the Spring so you can still have whites to eat in August. They eat best fresh
  2. Hopefully I'll be too busy keeping all of you snaggers boats running to go snagging myself. Appreciate the invite but I'll take the GUARANTEED 85.00/hr. instead of a shot at the spoonbill roe lottery.
  3. Justin, I'm not talking about a natural and non-renewable resource. I'm talking about spoonbill taken legally. Soon it would drive caviar prices down, no doubt, so the threat of spoonbill extinction would be short lived. Right now there are folks that need some extra cash. I just don't see any harm in allowing them the opportunity. That's all. And the ones selling the eggs aren't the only ones that would benefit. Think of your "resort brethren" on the Osage.
  4. Darn fine alternative to cooking meth IMO Get the crackheads out fishing and they might discover a life better/healthier than the one they are currently living. The freakin season is only a month long, why not let the ones that want to, capitalize on it? The money they get for their roe will most likely stay local, and that's a good thing for everyone. To deny folks a little monetary boost for something that DOES require some effort because you assume there'll be some "issues" arise, is a pathetic excuse. We know some folks will drive home drunk yet it is STILL legal to sell booze at a roadside bar. Why is that legal? Because the local revenue gets a boost from it.
  5. LOL, Think they'll be stormin' Feather-Craft and/or Wapsi any day now?
  6. There is simply no victim involved when selling eggs from fish that are legally caught. Limits regulate how many can be legally kept, transported, and when they can be caught, ect. so nobody is gonna make a living out of it.... except the lawyers if this remains a felony offense. I just recently bought deer tails, where did they come from? Wild turkey feathers? Wood duck flanks? The overpunishment of victimless "crimes" is totally out of control and should be a federal crime in and of itself. The enforcement of "laws" has become too much of a lucrative business in this land IMO.
  7. So who do y'all think deserves to be punished worse, these guys or the spoonbill egg sellers? Now, who do you think WILL BE punished worse?
  8. That's just insane, who even wants to clean that many fish in one evening ? Everyone acts like Whites can't possibly be overfished, but given their habits (gathering en masse in a confined area) I am reasonably sure that they can be.
  9. I can tell you for certain that one of those well maintained rigs are a better investment than a similar one that has only been run 20 times in 5 years and left to sit covered for months at a time.
  10. I'm all for the MDC hatchery selling 1/2 of the spoonbill eggs they produce to better fund themselves. Anybody got a problem with that?
  11. CPS doesn't like to back off and admit that they wasted any time or resources on anyone. Apparently that doesn't lookgood on their end of year report....or whatever, so they'll try HARD to make a case on anything they possibly can. (Unlocked liquor cabinets, knives left laying on counters, ect.) I've heard some pretty rediculis accountings from folks who have had unjustified dealings with them. Makes me wonder if some regional agencies aren't in the adoption business or something.
  12. Waste of time and money. He was hotlined and it is their appointed job to investigate, heads would have rolled if they hadn't. So why "tie up the courts" with bs?
  13. I have a question, and I'll just go ahead and directly blurt it out in hopes of a "Yes, No, or I don't know" answer. We're walleye ever injected with HGH (Human Growth Hormone) and later released into the waters of the state?
  14. Good luck, man. What is your area of expertise?
  15. The thing I'm a bit uneasy about....and of course it's not shown or mentioned, is the eventual release of brood stock that have been injected with "synthetic hormone inhancers" (or whatever it's more correctly named). Makes me wonder how many frankenstien walleye have crossed peoples tongues ? Is that safe?
  16. When things go wrong at speeds over 50 it's no fun at all. I got ejected at 72mph into 40someĀ° water, scared me bad but thanks to a kill switch and a good PFD I didn't get hurt. Then on another occasion I got thrown from the helm and faceplanted a Motorguide gator mount, broke a rib and lost some teeth. I didn't have the option of not ever getting in a fast boat again, but now I operate with alot more caution. I've never caught a fish at 60+mph, and I've never won or placed well in a tourney because I had 10-20 extra minutes of fishing time that day, so for me there's no good reason to haul-@$$ when fishing.
  17. With a 40% chance of rain no less!
  18. Yep, I was taught the same way Al. And it wasn't just "taught" it was pounded into my head relentlessly and my gun taken away for almost a whole season the one time I had a momentary lapse and swung the muzzle of my .410 past my brothers knees. I'll never forget my Dad asking me if I'd like to push my brother (who is a big ol'boy) around in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. On the way back home from the field I told my brother I was sorry, and my bro says "it's ok"..... Wrong (but right) thing to say, cuz it wasn't "ok" and the lecture started all over again and lasted all the way back home, and then for another hour almost while sitting in the truck out in front of the house before we carried our gear and birds to the house. I wasn't even allowed to carry my gun back in to the house. Later in life, as I hunted and plinked with various other friends it was immediately obvious that they hadn't endured the same degree of training. Not even close. And I doubt that very many of these daily gun toters have, and that is exactly why I am against everyone packing guns. Especially guys (and gals) that call their guns "weapons". To me that is a signal of a certain mindset that I am staunchly against. It's not a "weapon" until you use it like one.
  19. Around Bennett? Really? That's funny, can't think of any place where I've felt safer. Who knew I was flirting with death down there. Wow!
  20. Best advise I can give is to pick a species, learn everything you can about them, and concentrate only on one species of fish for awhile until you gain enough confidence that you feel like you could catch one just about anywhere one lives....and maybe even a few places they "aren't supposed to". The learning curve takes alot longer when you allow yourself to be distracted by "other" fish.
  21. Beds of sand often mark upwellings. Sometimes when the flow is just right the sand looks like it's boiling.
  22. Yeppers, if the economy is truly in the dumps you sure can't tell it around here.
  23. It happens because everyone "thinks" they need a "weapon"..... And guns have become the popular weapon of choice. A "gun" doesn't need to be loaded at all times and kept within easy reach, but a "weapon" does. Or so everyone has been led to believe. The longer you carry it around the more likely an accident will happen.
  24. Hi, and welcome to "Itty Bitty Merc Fuel System 101/Carb" 3 things.... If it is a Walbro carb (stamped WMB) then the fuel pump is operated by vacuum through a port at the carb flange, so a torn gasket is not acceptable, and gasket position is important.....see the little hole in it? When you put the carb back together what setting did you end up with on the idle jet (needle valve) ? Initial setting (before fine tuning) should be 1 1/2 turns out from lightly seated. Regardless of whether it has the Tillotsen or Walbro carb there is a service update on the inlet needle valve (the newly recommended one has no spring on it and float level is set "level with the flange while holding the carb body upside down"). Good luck.....and isn't that starboard side flange nut a PIA to get on/off? I use a 7/16 snap-on combo wrench and a "kabob skewer" (also known as Itty-Bitty Merc Special tool # 762) Not to add extra pressure to you or anything....but if you drop that nut you're phucked. LOL
