  1. Dying in the $#itter..... now that would suck.
  2. It didn't get below freezing until the middle of the night, did it? They had hours to get "somewhere". Maybe his "hunker down" tendencies were what did them in. If they had kept moving in any direction I would think they could have found a road, but who knows.
  3. This is the first time that I have heard of anyone getting caught in a cold rain and actually freezing to death in this part of the country. I'd normally consider the possibility of getting caught in conditions like that to be miserably uncomfortable at the worst, but not deadly. I guess you never know.
  4. There are some important missing details here, the reporter/publisher of this story really did a 1/2ass job.....either do the story or don't. The reporting (as it stands) makes no sense. They throw in the details of who he worked for and for how long. And that the rescue party all prayed together....yet leave out things like how far they were found from the cabin, and if an impassable creek was what kept them from getting back. The whole story seems "leading" doesn't it? Something weird going on here. Nobody survived but the dog. Was it really THAT BAD of a storm?
  5. The guys fishing nearby seem less than impressed. I suppose that hotties loose a certain degree of sexiness when they start outfishing you.
  6. Yeah, and 4 rubber legs, and a little piece of yellow foam on top so I can see it.
  7. A hard core reality that nobody wants to agree with or even hear about is that our society has evolved into a totally overpopulated, out of balance mess. And maybe nature is just taking over by doing what nature does..... trying to repair itself. We resist because of empathy and love for others but in the end nature will have its way and obtain a healthy balance. Floods, tornadoes, earthquakes, forest fires....none of those things are pleasant when they are happening, but the end result is always good. I don't think it is possible to eliminate or even substantially decrease killings any more than you can eliminate or decrease other "disasters". It is just an unpleasant and hurtful thing that periodically happens.....some years more than others. And that's all there is to it, period, end of story.
  8. Drill a hole in the top near the tail section, stick a piece of a plastic coffee stir stick (or similar) in the hole to act as a stop to keep the balls from going all the way back where they can get wedged. Epoxy it closed. Or give it to your partner and hope like hell he doesn't outfish you with it. Or hang it on a limb in a precarious location near the boat ramp and count how many guys fall out of their boats trying to get it. Or make a key chain out of it. No I got it...... Super glue it to the walkway of the courtesy dock.
  9. How much stronger background checks? Can you draft an example of the ideal background check ? Report mental illness to whom?
  10. Oh hell yes, and I'd rather have a root canal. LOL
  11. ROFLMAO! Wonder if any others are gonna get canned?
  12. THAT makes sense to me. I was under the assumption that it had to be examined under a black light or something to detect the "hidden signature". But yeah, if you dug a few up and they were all "not normal" looking, you'd probably leave that patch and go looking elsewhere. So the people/person that got busted actually tried to sell some crazy colored roots? Who the hell did they think would buy it? LOL
  13. Lookin good, man ! I hope you get one stuck. This weekend is looking to be perfect.
  14. I have bern a St. Croix LU/LE freak for many years, but the sweetest rod I've handled lately is that TFO BVK. I'm reeeeally impressed with those rods but I am not capable of buying just one of anything so since I can't afford to buy 6 new BVK's I'm gonna stay loyal to the folks in Park Falls, they've been really good to me. I skimp on reels, have never owned a fly reel that cost over $80 brand new. I choose one that balances a rod and is designed well, then do a little custom shimming and tune up the drag system. Anyone with some machining/mechanical knowledge can easily convert a "decent" fly reel into one that'll do everything a $300 will do.
  15. So if somebody digs up a bunch and sells it on ebay, how do they get busted? Do the people who buy it inspect it under UV light (as a common procedure) and then call the feds, who then begin a track-down investigation, arrest, and prosecution ? Good lord. In the end I'm not too sure it wouldn't be less costly and more effective to hire around-the-clock guards for the stuff. Is it even a native plant?
  16. Yeah but........Where's the pup?
  17. A full pound of dried ginseng root is a LOT of work. And it might say somewhere online that you can get 200 for it......but I'd challenge you to find someone who will give you 70.00
  18. I had no doubts that the idea of spending 150.00 (plus wages) to help protect a potential 40.00 worth of a plant was "Defendable". My question is more along the line of.... Is this harvesting of ginsing within the state forest REALLY an ongoing problem? Really? I'm thinking there's more money to be made (via plant theives) by picking up pine cones. Or beer cans.
  19. I have a few suspending streamers that I think will imitate dying shad real well and I have high hopes for them soon after ice-out in the reservoirs. But in a pond without a shad population there's not gonna be much of a dependable feeding pattern to key in on. If the body of water is big enough to have schools of shad then you're in business with either suspending streamers or a float-n-fly type setup as soon as some of the shad start falling away from the schools and wandering around half dead. Don't expect them to "slam it' though. They'll just ease up and suck it in, and you'll have about a 2 second window to detect the bite and stick 'em. There's one small lake that I hit for big bluegill during late Winter/very early Spring and it doesn't have any shad, but I do usually catch a few bass in the sunny shallow areas on slow falling bluegill flys.... it's not a very dependable bite though.
  20. Yeah. That's why I said "one of"..... LOL
  21. No kidding, that's one of the stupidest things I ever heard. 5 pounds of the stuff dried isn't worth the gas it takes to to get it to a buyer. Isn't there something a little more worthwhile they could be doing or worrying about?
  22. Something about that group seems vaguely familiar.
  23. Most "productive" foam trout flies..... #14 beetle, and #18 spanker ant. There's something about black foam and peacock heel next to each other that triggers takes.
  24. If there's no pitting, rust, or cage wear there is really no need to replace them....just clean and repack the bearings and hubs and swap seals. Most trailers have way less miles on them than you think so the actual wearing out of the bearings is seldom an issue.
  25. Your prices for the service is great, no issue there. I think everyone listing their stuff would WANT you to make money, otherwise the place won't last long. LOL I just wanna see the "store layout" and see how it navigates once a few guys have listed a few things, then I'll probably jump in there with a few things. Good luck, man. I hope it flys.
