Careers In Bass Fishing
fishinwrench replied to smallmouth man's topic in General Bass Fishing Discussions
Your biggest expense is obviously gonna be your boat. If you just bought a fresh rig, insured it to the hilt, and are stressing over shelling out 300.00 every 4 months for fresh batterys, or replacing a 700.00 trolling motor once or twice a year is gonna worry you..... just forget it. The expenses even if you get lucky and don't blow a powerhead in your first couple of years are outlandish. You are going to wear out lots of equipment WAY SOONER than you can even imagine, and there will be no sponsors to help with any of that for quite some time. Having your boat/motor covered under warranty just means that your down time will be longer when a component fails. In this day and age you are gonna need good credit, a new boat, a fresh truck, a rich daddy, and friends in all the right places. Otherwise you'll be worrying too much and won't be able to concentrate on your fishing like you need to. -
What Ever Happened To The Camp Zoey Property?
fishinwrench replied to Mitch f's topic in General Angling Discussion
So they had the "evidence" needed since 2006 but waited to make their move until there were no significant leins on the property ? How considerate of them. -
Do Not Buy Spro Products!
fishinwrench replied to Stoneroller's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Look at it this way; A satisfied customer (who did nothing wrong, illegal, or unethical) came to their forum to show off a pig he caught using one of their products.... and you made him feel uncomfortable afterwards. -

Do Not Buy Spro Products!
fishinwrench replied to Stoneroller's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Damanding that someone vouch for a bait company's "official position" on total C&R is outrageous. Who GAF? It's likely that there are fish eaters among every lure company in the world. Am I, as a marine tech, expected to have an "official stance" on emmisions control, or the use of jet drives on rivers? I keep/eat fish occasionally. Would you not choose me to repair your outboard soley because of that? -
Yeah, what Laker said... Nothing biting on this end but the catfish. That's the best crappie report I've heard in quite awhile. And coming from the twin islands area.....that's a surprise for sure. Way to go !

Certainly been an odd "Spring". Fish came in and made beds and then they were just gone. Ordinarily by this time (late May) there are males guarding schools of fry......I have seen ZERO schools of fry yet. None. Anyone else? One other thing that is absent in the areas I fish....turtles. usually there are turtles and/or cranes on every other log, but I can fish for days now without seeing a single one. That's just crazy, why would everythng be thrown off so bad just because it warmed up early? Makes no sense.

Missouri High Schools Need To Do This
fishinwrench replied to moguy1973's topic in General Angling Discussion
I believe there was a solid effort to get that ball rolling in Mo. several years back.....it must have fizzled. Too bad. Most likely killed by the xbox and the wi. Lazy brats -
Quick! Have someone you know and trust hit you in the temple with a 2x4 or a piece of green firewood, repeatedly, until all desire to learn and understand temperate bass has vanished from your conscience. You'll thank them (and me) later.

Great Video - Huge Fish & Hot Lady
fishinwrench replied to mic's topic in General Angling Discussion
Oh Geeze ! Didn't we settle this on a recent fishing trip? Why enter into a contract with the state of Missouri over who you choose to sleep with? Especially since regardless of who breeches the contract.... YOU loose the most ? Any man that signs that legal document thinking that he is doing the "right thing" is a blooming idiot. The whole idea of "legal wedlock" would have never gotten started in the first place (back in the day) if the only thing keeping some crackers from sleeping with their slaves was the fear of pissing off their preacher. Ridiculous, Pointless, Lawyer food ! -
Outboard Motor Question
fishinwrench replied to kirbydog's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
It's only "common" when there is an issue allowing it to act like that. It is probably a slight leak in the (cracked) primer valve. Next time it fails to fire right up, give the fuel bulb a squeeze.....if it starts right up after that then it is either a carb float level setting issue, or a leaking primer valve (red pointy thing on the starboard side) that is affecting fuel pressure when at an idle, or at cranking speed. You might also take a look at the throttle cam roller to see if it is still all there, it is a two piece roller they have a habit of falling apart. -
Excellent ! You ever used those strips of red meat for catfish bait?

WTF? LOL -
I'd watch ebay and CL for awhile.....just in case they are THAT stupid. I had a 15hp stolen from a motel parking lot and found it laying in a nearby ditch covered with tree limbs and trash. I guess they figured they'd come back for it after the smoke cleared. So you might take a walk along any nearby hiding places. I got my outboard back but the cops didn't feel like it was worth their time to stake out the gulley and see who came back for it.

Justin, she isn't PMSing, that's just the way she rolls. That's why it is "mother" nature. Unpredictable, contrary, never satisfied. In contrast, "father" time is consistent, steady, never changing. Eventually, mother nature will get tired of looking at father times face and there'll be a nasty divorce. It'll be interesting to see how fairly "the judge" rules on that one.

Trolling Motor Problem
fishinwrench replied to dave potts's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
If you have ever worked on an armature electric motor and have an understanding of how they work you can probably restore the motor back to like new as far as "power" goes. The usual culprit is carbon glazing or corrosion on the brushes and contacts, and worn (over-heated) brush springs that have lost their tension. Shine the contacts up nice and bright, put a fresh face on the brushes and back them up with new springs. If there are signs of moisture in the motor you'll have to reseal it. The first one you do will be pretty tricky......after that it's a piece of cake. -
Crane has seen alot worse droughts than it'll see this year. In the past I've seen it all but dry, to the point where there was barely a wet spot between puddles....and miraculously 2 years later it was full of trout, including some big ones (16"+). That's why I have a hard time buying the claim that it hasn't been stocked since the horse&buggy days. LOL

New Missouri State Record Largemouth!
fishinwrench replied to Stoneroller's topic in General Angling Discussion
9.2 and only 23" ? That is one FAT bass. -
I was big into tourney fishing when every bass boat you got close to reeked of garlic, and I had a theory that strong easily distinguishable scents like garlic and anise could cause fish to shut down. Kinda like when your sitting in your house and suddenly get a faint whiff of smoke..... immediately you are up investigating and nervous because maybe the last tine you smelled THAT in your home you had a really bad day. Obviously if your fishing a private pond that doesn't get much fishing pressure the fish could be turned-on or curious about it. But when they've smelled it before and then been stuck in the face and thrown in a box for several hours, they might possibly retain the sense to avoid that smell in the future. Catching fish on artificials is about keeping a balance between creating positive triggers that matter, diminishing negative elements, and learning the difference between them. Old time crappie fishermen used to bang on the side of the boat with a paddle when the fishing got slow and it actually excited the fish into biting again for awhile, but I don't think that old trick works anymore

Naw! YOU are! When you gonna haul that barge down here ? You ain't afraid to get a zebra mussel or two on it are ya?

Right. It's odd cuz guys will spend a couple hundred a year putting additives in their fuel, but will try to get 3-4 years out of a battery and toast a 200.00+ regulator everytime. Not that I'm complaining
-
I'm not a fan of any type of additive. I feel like I have been into enough powerheads to confidently say that no additive or engine treatment on the market will remove....or even soften hard carbon deposits. The marketing is certainly working though, because every boat that gets brought to me has a veritable witches brew of s#!t in the tank (70% fuel + 30% seafoam/stabil/2+4/carbon guard/ ect. ect.) to the point that I use a portable tank of just straight fresh fuel to do my running tests, idle mixture and sync settings......then once everything is as it should be I plug their "soup" back in and hope for the best. And as for "stabilizing additives" ability to keep things from gumming up during extended storage....I have a heavily "stabilized" 2005 Optimax in the shop right now that just woke up from a nap and beg$ to differ. But all that aside, WTH, I hear it's on sale for 16.00 a bottle now.
