    Weather was just too nice and I couldn't help myself.All on brush, 24-28 fow, 12-20 ft deep. Barely any short fish. All on 1/16 oz weedless jig and BGBS blue ice.Water was tea colored, 49 degrees.Happy Thanksgiving, for those that are venturing out tonight or in the morning, good luck!

    Thanks for the report. I've been itching bad to get out, it's tough to find the time with these short days. Gotta be wheels up and gone by 2:30 PM or it's not even worth going. Saw a report over on Crappie.com, they've been catching crappie shallow, seems like they're still all over the place.

    Weedless jigs are the best thing ever if you're fishing in the sticks.

    So far my favorite slip cork is the Thill Stealth. It will work down to 1/24 oz. I use straight mono (sensitivity is not a huge deal with bobber fishing), and also tie a stop with mono. I prefer freelining, but some days a float works better, and it brings back a lot of fond memories.

    It was 52 yesterday, wouldn't be surprised if it drops a few more degrees as cold as it will be tonight and tomorrow night. This whole jerkbait thing looks pretty fun, any pointers for someone who has never done it before? Not really a bass fisher, but it's supposed to be killer for walleyes in early spring, and when it comes down to it I enjoy catching anything that will pull a string.

    I went out for a couple hours tonight too, shoulda sat in the deer stand instead. All I can say is that 2018 has been a lousy year overall, the spawn lasted about a week, the summer was long and tough, and fall has just been cold front after cold front. I think the water temp has dropped almost 30 degrees in about a month. I did manage one good fish on a brush pile, at least I didn't get skunked.

    I was catching them like crazy on Pomme a week ago, it was cloudy and they were hammering a bobby garland baby shad in blue ice. That is go-to color in all conditions unless the water is muddy. I have read that dark colors are better for cloudy days. If the sun is not shining reflective or flashy colors are of little benefit, a darker tone provides a better silhouette that makes it more visible.

    It's not a controlled round feed model, so that puts it somewhere between 1964 and now.. Haha, I'm going to say that it's a fairly recent model though. That's not to say it's not a good gun. There is no "bad" model 70, just some that are more desirable than others. All are fine shooting rifles. If I didn't already have a .270 I would buy it.

    Does such a thing exist? Most of the XPS chargers from BPS have pretty lousy reviews. Same for the Dualpro chargers from Academy. I run two batteries, but only one needs regular charging. I fish often enough that the starting battery seems to stay charged from the outboard. I have been using a Dewalt 4 amp charger/maintainer, but it seems to be dead after 6 months. Since then I've just been using a Schumaker trickle charger, but it takes forever to charge a group 29 battery at only 750ma.

    I went out Tuesday, for the first time in a long time I got skunked. Right at dusk I finally marked a lot of shad in fairly shallow water, with a lot of fish amongst them. I didn't catch any though, once the sun set they disappeared. All I can say is that the fish are scattered and following shad. The lake will also be turning over soon (if it hasn't started already), so that complicates things further.

    Got this NIB with my boat, used it a few times but it was too small for the bow. 2D sonar and basic maps. It has down imaging capability with the appropriate transducer. 75 bucks OBO.

    Well, if I see a fella on the bank or in a kayak this weekend that's glowing green, I'll just wave and be on my merry way. Couldn't think of a better way to isolate yourself.

    I did not have much luck yesterday either. The spots that were good 1-2 weeks ago, are pretty slim pickins' now. The good mid-70*s trolling weather that I'd been looking forward to all summer is done and gone, just like the crappie spawn in the spring. I saw a lot of tiny shad flipping around the cove at Masters over shallow water, and bait balls in deep water too.

    That is the best thing you can do, a lot of people worry about overfishing a pond, when usually the opposite is true. Keep pressure on the crappie and bass especially, or you'll have a pond full of 12" skinny bass and tiny crappie. Those 12" bass are good eating. Stocking some forage is not a bad idea either. Grass carp will help keep the vegetation down. Some is good, but it can really take over a small pond, to the point that you can hardly fish it.

    It's been a tough summer. I've been reading some of my old posts from a year ago, water temps last year in mid-August were hovering just below 80. Even though it's October, the lake still seems like it's in a late summer pattern. I don't bass fish, but the crappie have been cooperating. I even caught a short walleye last weekend, first in a long time.
