  1. I'm too busy rubbing out aches and pains for the reflexes to be a problem 😀 That one had a recently bloodied tail, along with several other largemouth we've caught...food for thought.
  2. Yep. Think the generation schedule is in play. Sure seems to coincide with the bite.
  3. Yesterday was unreal. Today was a little slower, but all of the same places and stabby bits are working. Had something like 8 good keepers, mix of the usual three, plus the boy's contribution. Beginning to understand why the old guys I used to fish with always said "I hate young people".
  4. Tapered tube head...jam it in the front like a big crappie tube head.
  5. It's a good hook for Texas rigging short, thick plastics. Use some on swing heads we pour. We're fishing the tube on a 3/8 speed load head, 4/0 Mustad ultrapoint or Eagle Claw 570. The cheapie is hooking up better, but the fish are straightening some out. Mustad just isn't stabbing them well. Normally our tube fishing is a change of pace from Ned. Wanted something that wasn't a Gammie or Owner, as I expect to end up using cutters on several hooks during the trip. Will probably look at some vmc 60 degree hooks, tweak a mold for them.
  6. Had some times like that fishing with Bud Erhardt on Bull. Can get big and chunky water down by Noe and Howard.
  7. Until they flood it for half a year and you can't put in. I'm really not one on the wilder lakes. I like a few docks to hide under when it comes up storming.
  8. I'm thinking .308 or 8mm Mauser for the squatch. Either way, I can cover it.
  9. BSL is looking better and better...
  10. Brownies like the big boats. So do some of the K's.
  11. Morning was slow. Got much better when the sun got up, even better with boat traffic. Fishies like big wakes banging the bank. Not a surprise. Caught fish consistently from 830-3pm. Quit reluctantly. Number of keepers...many. Main lake stuff, not necessarily points or run outs, close to the main river channel. Mostly 18'-25', with some out to 28' or so. Temps pretty much 84-85. Color our new normal cloudy mess. Tubes, football jig, Ned. Fish seem to want an aggressive presentation, so deadly Nedly got a little less love. Hopping, darting, etc. Lost a bunch of fish on tubes. Need to look at hook options. Best tube bite I've had in years. We've gone through two and a half 20ct bags in a week. First thing we saw a lot of singles, but they weren't playing. Wake bait, spoon, nothing. The dragging fish are very much as Mr. Babler described. Quite a few are "catching" it. Too many were also pitching, lol. Jig fish were ridiculously touchy about trailer size. Plus one very optimistic gog...

  13. High praise indeed.
  14. Well...a good day of beating up brown fish and K's was tempered with serious news. She had an appointment today with the team neurosurgeon. Gamma Knife is out. They want to do a second invasive crainotomy to remove the residual tumor. I'm not doing well, to be honest...
  15. Ok, contributing to the official bluegill thread...
  16. Thank you. Know you have our condolences, and our prayers.
  17. I won't pretend that's the same everywhere, for everyone, but generally it's not as bad as tubes or split shots. Doesn't matter what it ate, or where it was hooked, if you aren't extremely careful in hot weather you will kill fish. Especially on a deep lake.
  18. If someone hit one with a jet boat it was an awesome feat. I've run by them in rivers up north, you'd have to try to hit one.
  19. Yep. We were just about to put the rods in when the lightning started here.
  20. It's almost bound to end in a fiasco at best, tragedy at worst. It's hard enough up in northern Minnesota where folks are used to them. Giant, generally inadvertently, destructive animals.
  21. If folks refer to a pre rapala wart color as "the [your name here] color", pioneer fits.
  22. Well, and respectfully, put.
