  1. Start with the ned and expand from there. Also second the Bobby Garland suggestion on Crappie.
  2. How much better can it get when Florida State and Alabama both lose? Pure awesomeness if you ask me. That Oregon team is going to be really hard to handle. But if anyone can get a team ready for them it's Urban Meyer and he has some pretty good horses of his own. Should be a GREAT game.
  3. Used to catch eels on a semi-regular basis on the lower Osage. The main thing I know for an absolute fact about them is they can slime a net like nobody's business. They really are cool fish.
  4. I do steaks on my egg at about 700 degrees too. Makes a real difference in flavor to cook a steak for a short time on really high heat. That's really the only way to get a good bark on the outside and still have a warm red center - which to me is the perfectly done steak. About the beef fat - good if you can tolerate it, but I have cholesterol issues and can't take statins so avoid as much fat as I can. Which means a filet for a really good steak, or a sirloin for not as expensive of a cut but great flavor. I've also mastered venison, and the high heat is part of it. Used to love those bone in ribeyes and a big old porterhouse but haven't had either one in probably 20 years.
  5. A true classic. As someone earlier mentioned a split shot up the line a foot or so to get deeper.
  6. Somebody has probably already suggested bag balm for winter hands, but if not, it seems to work as good as anything for me.
  7. Don't tell anybody I told you but the Ned will kill them.
  8. Pretty fish Phil, really pretty.
  9. Maybe so. I was talking about the one on Sunshine.
  10. I don't know if you've been in Cody's lately but that place is filthy.
  11. I don't think I should go just yet. Sorry but just being up front and not going to drop out when push comes to shove.
  12. Oh probably so. More's the pity.
  13. Count me in. These group things are an incredible way to meet new people and have a good time doing it. The great fishing is a bonus. The people are the gold nuggets.
  14. Made it more than once. It's a great dish and works really good with Venison as well.
  15. BTW this bucket list is for the rest of you guys. Been there and done that. Don't have the t-shirt though.
  16. Way to go Jim. Did something similar myself last year and it was a great decision.
  17. 1. Fly fishing NFOW from a drift boat. 2. Set lines on Missouri River for flatheads - dark of the moon in June. 3. Blue catfish on Osage river near Taberville with live bait on the third rise in the spring. 4. Three day float and camping on upper Jacks Fork in the spring. 5. White Bass run on James. 6. Crappie during the spawn on Stockton. 7. Hybrids / white bass on Truman when they are chasing on the flats 8. Float and wade fishing for Smallies and Goggle eye on one of my local favorites 9. Taneycomo when the shad are going through the dam 10. Hitting a really good private pond for bass on spinner baits or topwater baits. There. Back on track.
  18. Another highlight for me. Learned to tie the Alberto. That knot had eluded me for a year. I was taking the tag end of the main line through the leader loop from the wrong side and had given up on that knot and was using two surgeon knots to tie leader to nanofil. The alberto is better and easier. Now. Thanks HAM!
  19. That was a nice box he had too. I fell asleep too early that night but Bob said Miles was a really interesting and very knowledgeable guy who made a life changing decision to wind up on the White River. Cannot beat that place for the accomodations for a group of guys. You just feel welcome there.
  20. Words of wisdom right there folks. Pure gold.
  21. Bob, Lane and I fished Rim Shoals Friday. Had a good day, mostly rainbows, I think Bob had three browns. Lane and I both caught a couple of cutthroats each. I'd guess we had maybe 150 fish that day for the boat. It was running minimum flow when we got on the river and then that big water that Ham and the boys fished at White Hole earlier in the day made it to Rim. River got a little trashy then and the bite slowed quite a bit. We were doing best on 1/8 gold head olive/ginger zig jigs. Actually those produced best for us all weekend. Saturday was a tale of two spots. Red's landing was really slow for Bob and I we had four fish at noon. So we decided to make a move. Les and Cody were heading to Norfork as they had been generating all morning. We decided to go there too. Of course, we got to Norfork just in time for generation to go to zero. Decided to go to Buffalo City and make our way up to Buffalo Shoal which turned out to be the best decision I've made in a long time. We made our way as far up the shoal as we could and it was on. Fish every cast for the first three or four drifts. Quality rainbows, a nice brown that was maybe 18" and the smallie in the picture Griz posted above. Probably boated 100 fish in about two hours there. Just an awesome afternoon. Water level was very nice and the sun came out, which I also think made a huge difference. Again, fishing 1/8 gold head olive/ginger zig jigs. The Brown and the Smallie both ate the jig. Catching that smallmouth in that heavy water was a real blast, I have to say. My highlight of the trip, at least from the fish catching standpoint. Sunday water was way low. Lane, Bob and I went to Rim Shoals again and made our way up to a spot that did us good on Friday. We were catching them pretty good, Lane definitely had the hot hand. Caught rainbows, Cutthroats and Cuttbows. Left about noon to head on home, tired and very happy. So overall, just a great fishing trip. But I have to say the fellowship of this trip is really the bottom line best part. Just good people top to bottom, a ton of knowledge, shared willingly. Good food from some good cooks too. Really enjoyed seeing the folks from last year and meeting new to me and now friends, SIO3 and Mr. Griz Wilson. Didn't get to spend much time with Phil or Duane but they are great folks too. Phil was nice enough to leave us another side of sockeye salmon and a deer loin. Phil, they did not go to waste, there was not a shred left. Brett, thanks for a great fish fry. Everyone, thanks for having us, for putting up with grumpy old men and can't wait for the next one.
  22. Meow.
  23. For lack of anyone putting forward a better plan should we all get together at Riley's Friday morning and decide who is fishing where and with whom then? 8:00 AM or so?
  24. That's a darn good looking lab.
  25. I'm thinking longer than three hours. We'll plan on putting it in the crock pot on low while we're out fishing and it can finish on the smoker.
