  1. I watched a young buck chase what I assume was an egg laden doe across the pasture out back earlier tonight if that counts for anything.🤓
  2. I had astigmatism and wore no line trifocals and sometimes contacts. Hated them all. Contacts were not comfortable and even with the flexible frame good lenses glasses I still had issues with comfort and worst of all - sweat dripping on the glasses from April through October anytime I did anything physical. Lasik now maybe 14 or 15 years ago was the best thing I ever did for vision. Wear readers for close work but at distance I've still got better than 20-20 vision. No glare/flares night driving and shooting is just fine with no glasses. I have a pair of dark gray Maui Jim's and a pair of amber Costa's. Perfect for driving and fishing. Phil, if you're a lasik candidate, in the long run it will save you a lot of money. And the surgery is nothing. Take a valium, lay down for about ten minutes total, put up with one day of sore eyes and then after that reap the rewards.
  3. I've got a pair of Amber Costa's that I like for cloudy days. Polarized glass lenses. Not cheap but you can sure see fish with them. And not squint.
  4. I'd have to side with your wife on this one. Plus you take hydrocodone every 4 hours. Wonder what the cops would have to say about that if you were in an accident? Your fault or not, it would not go well would be my guess. We all wish you the best, but on this one, nope, no driving.
  5. Not factory work except a brief time in college. My family has a long history of orthopedic problems and arthritis. I lay most of it on to bad genetics. Nearly all of my cousins also have a prosthetic joint or two. I did do a lot of hard physical work when I was younger, but in my later years it was mostly all management.
  6. Long ago and far away I worked for Missouri State Parks. Been to every park and historic site in the state. Most of them multi times. Hawn State Park is so underappreciated. It's just beautiful.
  7. Plus it's really pretty country. If I remember correctly, Elephant Rocks is handicap accessible for a lot of the park.
  8. This thread is not headed in a good direction.
  9. No kidding. Modern medicine is as close to miraculous as we're likely to get.
  10. I've got a decent collection of some pretty good knives. I like to keep them sharp. Some of the knives have modern knife steels (S90V, S35VN, CPM154, 3V, D2) that will hold an edge for a very long time but they can be difficult to sharpen. I've used a Lansky sharpening system for years and also have and use a Chef's Choice. They're both good sharpening systems but it seemed I needed more capability. I was having a time with a couple of knives that have very hard steel. Read a little about the Ken Onion Worksharp and decided to give it a try. Wow, talk about a game changer. Sharpens any knife to shaving sharp in no time. This sharpener can handle serrated blades and also gut hooks. Fully recommended.
  11. My experience with pain meds: They don't actually do much for the pain, but they do make you stupid enough to not care. Ibuprofen helps as much as anything for me. Having had two back surgeries, both knees and both hips replaced, a rotator cuff repaired that involved screws, carpal tunnel release on both hands and a kidney stone that would not pass, I'm an expert.
  12. On a decent sized flat head or blue, I cut off the belly first, filet it. A really big one, get the cheeks. Then filet the fish like anyone would any fish ever. Then split the filet down the middle of the red line and cut all that red out. It's not that hard. But. Always remember, if it's not white, it's not right.
  13. There's your problem right there.
  14. Sounds more like a grudge killing than anything hunting related.
  15. I've fished that lock and dam many times. When the water was right, motor up to the south side of the lock and tie up in that big eddy about sunset. Drink a couple of beers and let everything settle down and then start with the rattletraps. Did OK now and then, not always which is fishing. When it's on, it's a heck of a good spot. Walleye can be caught there too, but not as consistent as the wipers.
  16. Everyone with math skills knows that. But I got a hickey myself in the anvil milling thread so let's call it even, what say?
  17. Happy birthday. Don't forget to go to the office for some encouraging words. .
  18. You remind me of the guy who asked what the special was at the diner. "Tongue sandwich" said the waitress. Guy says "eewww, I could never eat something that came out of a cows mouth. Give me a couple of eggs".
  19. We're going over to some friends for dinner tonight. I'm supplying the mushrooms. Going to deep fry some. In a piece of vintage cast iron that I got off some guy I know.🙂 Sauteed a few this morning in butter to go with scrambled eggs. Been so long since I had oyster shelfs I'd forgotten how good they really are. There is a good reason they are on the cover of the MDC book "Missouri's Wild Mushrooms"
  20. I found these in my secret spot. Beside the road on my way home. 🎯 The takeaway is keep your eyes open, you never know what you might find. Could be Brian Laundrie or something...

    Fresh Oysters

Bingo! Thanks to some rain, these babies are prime.
  22. No politics. No more freebie warnings either.
  23. Tom T. Hall said it was faster horses, younger women, older whiskey and more money. Dummy left out meth.
