  1. If it was me, it would be for big stripers. That is one heck of a lake.

Thanks. It is kind of a cool old house place. Proud to have been able to save it. Original construction was in 1900. By a lot of standards, that's not really all that old. But it does have a certain character that you don't find everywhere. We went pretty far out of our way to try and keep it that way.
  3. Nothing to add other than good thread.
  4. Asking price is $269 K. Your $250 K will probably get it bought.
  5. This is what I used until I got hold of some of Dave's heads. His are better but these work too. Those jigheads are common as dirt. You do need to trim the weedguard a little bit. It's really more about technique, having the right weight head, right sized hook and the elaztech if you ask me.

And then I got busy with kids and grandkids and forgot to take anymore pictures. Sorry
  7. That does it. I'm getting me a Royals hat. TODAY.
  8. It's a good morning to catch up on your laundry.
  9. Well then. Nuff' said. Other than glad you had one heck of a trip.

OK, thanks. You are forgiven for the polenta v. grits thingie.
  11. Sounds kind of like shark or spoonbill. More meaty than fishy at least when it comes to texture.
  12. Semper Fi bud. Nice job.
  13. They are pretty skinny. Makes sense. Lots of rough fish are the same way. A 10 lb carp might have two or three pounds of decent meat, buffalo much the same. A 50 pound spoonie might dress to maybe 10 or 15. Only the white meat is worth the effort.
  14. Well, I can tell you for an absolute fact that if you ever get checked and have any doves or ducks in the freezer, it will go better for you if they are labeled. I do have deer tags in freezer now and don't keep over my personal possession limit on anything that is not labeled. Go ahead and roll your eyes, it won't hurt a thing until the local agent knocks on the back door.
  15. I love cooking what some people throw away. That gar recipe sounds wonderful.

    Isn't risotto pasta?
  17. So you need to bake the gar after it's fried nice and brown? I've done shark before and never like that but it sounds interesting to say the least.
  18. I have tin snips.
  19. How do you clean the gar? Are they anything like pike but maybe a little tougher to fillet?

Hatch chili peppers are a great find.
  21. Sounds like that post storm bite was on. Good job Dave.
  22. Don't tell Chief what you hammered them on. Nice fish man.
  23. Phenoligical. WTH is that?
  24. Circle hooks, definitely not trebles. Match the size to what you are wanting to catch. For channels probably 4-0 will be about right. Use a swivel about 18" above the hook it will save some from twisting off. I've always preferred live bait. Perch if you can catch them or goldfish if you can't. Crayfish are good too. Cut shad or skipjack if you can get it will work too. Tie to something with some spring in it or include a piece of innertube in the dropper, that will also save fish from working their way off. Don't forget to label your lines. We always also tied on some flagging tape to make them easier to find. Running lines in the dark can be a real blast. At the very least run them morning and evening. More often is better. Good luck.
