That area is probably the most tricky spot on the lake IMO. Run the flat, stay off the bank a good ways. Once you get to the end of the flat you will see some trees ahead. I usually slow down and idle through there. Then you can open it back up running the middle part of the lake. there is a huge tree out there that is visible stay to the left of that. You should have no problem running up from there. There are a few flats above that towards Greenfield that you can hit and beach, just know they run out a ways. Ill try to draw a line from google earth of the route I take.
I use an Abu Garcia Veritas 7'9 heavy action. It's light and very affordable at about 80 bucks. FYI Lew's makes thier new BB1PRO in a deep spool model. That thing would cast forever.
Go put in at PB2, run to the gravios and back. Make sure it is on Saturday. Then come back down to the rock.... You will be thankful for this beautiful lake then. I hate all of the complaining that goes on here. This is an amazing lake. With or without the boat traffic.
Ok Wrench, let me rephrase. There is a bite up the river, above Hurricane Deck bridge. Regardless of the tournament weight. Past three weeks I have been up there, averaging about 15-18 pounds and outing. Minus the weekend of the OMTT where I had three fish for just under 10 pounds :/
1998 champion 183 cox w/ 150 opti. My friend is selling it to upgrade to a bigger boat. Maroon and charcoal colored good shale 7000 pm me for his number
During the spawn I was putting in at the state park and catching a ton of keeper spots . 20 plus a few days in a row. With several being 3 pound fish. Also caught alot of 14 inch spotted bass. These fish were all spawing in 15-20 feet of water in the back end of the creeks and coves. They are still healthy and in the lake. Maybe try a bit more shallow. They seem to be up in 15 ft. towards the backs of the pockets. I believe the spawn is over. I was down two weeks ago and caught alot of brown fish that were skinny and beat up . And seen many spots on the beds. It was nothing to catch 10-15 spots in a 50 yard stretch. These fish were all spawing around wood.
To my knowledge and research Stockton's natural spawn for walleye is never very successful. There are a lot of factors that have to sync up for there to be a natural spawn. This is probably the reason there is not a season for them on the lake.
About the same report on my end, minus the big fish. Launched out of mutton. Caught a ton of keepers. Jerkbaits, jigs, and crankbaits. This lake is fishing really well right now!!! Congrats on the fat girl
Brandon Palaniuk couldn't be a nicer person, got a chance to randomly meet him at Texoma last year when I was pre fishing for the BFL regional. Talked with him for a good 20 minutes. Friendly as can be, talked to me like I was a friend. The only thing I hated about him was how unbelievably hot his girlfriend was ....
At stockton seek out coves with gravel bottom. The spawn will happen earliest up river at cc and make its way down to the dam. These largemouth love to spawn next to some kind of cover. Wether that is a big rock, or a laydown log. Like I stated above gravel is key!!! Look for areas protected from the north and south winds. These bass wont spawn in an area prone to big waves. A wacky rigged senko will catch more than you can handle once the spawn arrives. I would say this spawn will be late april. Just look for water temps in the mid 60's. With the clear water the fish can spawn pretty deep. On stockon with the water as clear as it is. The beds shouldnt be hard to spot.
Oh yeah for sure they will reschedule . They haven't announced a date yet. But said any paid entry fees will be transferred to the rescheduled event. Hopefully some time in September
