  1. I remember reading some articles about him when I was a kid. The stories really made me want to try some float fishing.
  2. Sounds cool. We go to a few flea markets up here and find tackle once in a while.
  3. A neighbor of our property in Shannon county claims he saw a wolf last year. He has seen many coyotes and knew it wasn't a coyote. A few weeks later someone hit one with a car on Hwy 60. Rural legend? I don't know. But thousands upon thousands of wooded acres near there could harbor anything. Personally, if I saw a wolf ,the only way I would shoot it is with a camera. However..if it showed no fear of man and showed an interest in me..we would have to a "discussion". As far as cougars go, I do have a little story. A local farmer had a cow get attacked and a calf killed. The authorities came out and said the cow cut its face on a fence and the calf died of natural causes and was fed upon by coyotes. One of the calf's legs were found 20' up in a tree. The perpetrator showed back up again for the scraps and justice was served.
  4. It depends.. Sometimes I have rigged another small bait such as a finesse jig or smaller texas rig and throw it back it there. But most of the time I just rerig the 1st bait an throw it back in there.
  5. Welcome!
  6. I was down last weekend but didnt get a chance it fish. We were working on the land. Saw several pickerel around Alley Spring. As cold as there water and weather have been, any bites would be impressive to me.
  7. Good video, I have watched it several times.
  8. I remember seeing some big bass just above the dam back in 2010. One looked to be 4 pounds and another that might have been 6 or 7.
  9. I would imagine they would be around the springs. I'll be down next weekend to find out.
  10. If he was there. might be more big ones around.
  11. We go to our place on the upper Jacks Fork mostly to get away from crowds. Its a magical place to us and in some sense the waters wash away our stress and allow us to return to the people that we really are. Siiting in my camp chair watching the campfire slowly burn up the logs or along the creek bank seeing how the current flows around and over the rocks is just about as relaxing as it gets. We are far enough away from the river that in the summer the crowds don't bother us. At least while we are camping. Its a shame that those who abuse the rivers in many ways will also be the ones who get heard the most in some of those meetings. Freedom is a wonderful and precious thing. Bad thing is though when one mans freedom overlaps another's...., conflict occurs. Too bad we can't just ban all river dorks and drunken idiots, keep the bad giggers away from the Smallies,...,make the horses go up in to the bushes to crap, and the crazy jet boaters from terrorizing the river. Too bad we can't just give them all common sense pills when they show up.
  12. A spill in the river would be a death sentence. They would have to get further in the woods, out of the wind, and build a sturdy shelter around the tent. Food or water wouldn't be an issue but heat would be the number 1 concern. Collect all the firewood they could and keep a small fire going in a rock lined circle. Use the warm rocks to stay warm up. Use each others body heat to help stay warm.. If the vehicle is downstream. someone probably dropped them off,,,and one would think they would check on them.
  13. Hate to see that one go since our place is close by. But I want them to spend only whats in the budget.
  14. I used to set goals like that back in my tournament days....20 lb stringers, numbers of fish 5 plus,...wins etc... I don't know if I have caught 52 species in my life in Missouri waters... Muskies might be one of tougher ones,,,but last time I was on Hazel Creek I had 4 on.....
  15. I like a zoom trick worm which can be shortened if necessary. I like those bass pro shops screwlock football heads in 1/8 or 3/16.
  16. No ice here yet. But suppose to get it this afternoon and 6" of snow Sunday the -5 Monday night.
  17. 1. Prongs to Alley Spring on the Jacks Fork. 2. Upper Eleven Point. 3. North fork of the White. 4. Upper Big Piney 5. Pulltite to Twin Rivers on the Current.
  18. I can think of a couple. Once on Mark Twain, we were working small crankbaits along a rip rap bank catching a few bass along with a bunch of big drum. I hooked a fish and it slowly swam away from the bank, staying down the whole time. My buddy and I were both thinking,.."yep, another drum..." . It stayed down until it got right at the boat and then rolled up on its side. It was a huge largemouth,Those ones that have eyes bigger than quarters. I reached down to grab it and it took off and before I could turn it , it pulled off. I don't know what it would have weighed but guessing it was a 9 or 10. Another day on Thomas Hill we were a Poes 300 around an old bridge and had a good hit. I yelled for my buddy to get the net, thinking it was a 6 plus bass. A few seconds later I told him never mind. It wasn't a bass. It swam slowly towards the main lake with me following on the trolling motor. I would pull really hard to get it up with no luck. After about 25 minutes I felt it catch the line on a stump and it broke off. I have caught several flatheads in the 15-20 pound range , but this one was way different.
  19. Weather report , up here, is for cold weather. But a warm campfire and a good sleeping bag will do the trick.
  20. Bourjos is a .250 hitter with speed, stealing 41 out of 54.. A true lead off man maybe. Jay to right, Robinson as #4. Oscar and Grichuk will have to earn their way up. We do need a shortstop that can hit.
  21. Will do repo. I have only bank fished in that area around the access. Yep, those big rocks had some last time. What is the limit and length limit on goggle eyes? So far my best Jacks Fork smallie is 16", but had at least 1 bigger one on. Spent some time trying to sight fish a school of decent ones, no luck, but once I got a better view, they all turned out to be suckers....They were pretty deep and it was windy.. Any advice on tackle? I have been using a 7' med act spinning rod with 8 lb floro. But with some of the fish hiding in the heavy wood might break out the old tournament worm rods with 15lb and some eakins jigs.
  22. I was going to go up here in north Missouri, but mt knee decided it was time to cause issues. The wind and storms slow things down somewhat but some of my buds got some nice deer.
  23. I used round toothpick in each end. Then warmed them up, rolled them in the powder coating using a gatorade cap, then set them on a drying rack...2 -2x4's....Not really hi tech but worked. About 1/2 were really good, rest went to the catfish box. Once they cool off and harden,,,you can pull some or snap them off and use a 1/16th bit to open it up.
  24. I tried it but had to add weed guards later. I used a sacrificial old electric skillet.
  25. I haven't heard any reports but it should be pretty decent right now. I live a little over an hour away from it. The times I fished it we caught quite a few on the lower end. Be ready for a few musky bites as well.
