I do not myself see after over 70 where the higher priced rods are all that worth it. I will just continue on with my Berkley Cherrywood HD rods They see a lot of daily use and are very sensitive. There is a lot more goes into sensitivity than a rod. I can buy 3 for what you pay for a Duckett. Most rod and line breakage has nothing to do with the rod it the angler using it.

I will certainly second that Wrench . I used to take care of those along Elks drive in Laurie. I wanted to remove them several years ago but you cannot tell those knot heads they are going to cause problems. They just say all they need in to be trimmed. Trouble with that is the limbs grow upward If you remove the lower one they will leave great holes higher up in the tree. I would just as soon deal with a t5 yr old than some of them up there. They also are attack those 7 year locust A couple year go they were so infested the limbs were covered covered with boring holes to lay eggs in..

Thats all I have on my boat. I sometines faintly wish I had something bigger for fishing for the white bass group ( whites, hybrids and stripers) but at the same time I think they might still present a distraction. I also got my doubts if they reveal all that much unless your trolling. I do not care to spend the money for gas and a expensive unit myself. I have all the action I want without it.

OH YEAH LADDERS they absolutely love ladders hanging in the water. Butyou do not often find big ones around them. They also love stations and concrete babes for walkways in the fall and spring. Those times of the year there can be some real hogs back there With the wake problem we are having around my area people are adding more cables and it is getting real hard to fish those spots. Now days 6 cables seems to be normal. In a few instances I have seen 8.

This concept of fishing time. That is another concept that can lead you astray. I know someone that That won $ 100,000 bucks and the ever start national National Walmart tournament Title. He fished the same spot with the same lure for 2 days. How many of you could sit there for 5-6 hours with no bite. He was certain he found a bunch and they were going to do their thing sometime or the other. Myself I am not out to impress anyone. Most of my fishing is done outside tournament hours I like to fish feeding periods because I am old and lazy. Sometimes I like to follow the sun other times the shade. That answers to questions right there for me about the triangle. Where And when

I will be honest I do not seen to want to follow the crowd. I will experiment with different ways. I hope to get out Thursday. One rod will be set up with a drops shot type rig. The distance from the lure hook to the weight will about 6"to 8' It will be weighted with 3/4 or 1oz weight. This I will throw to the bank and retrieve it very slow stopping it sometimes and keeping it off the bottom maybe jiggle it a bit while it is sitting there off the bottom. Will be using one of those fat PBS magnum trick worms or something else It worked last fall in cold water and this water is cold out on LOZ I do not think I have ev er seen it 43-45 degrees this late in march.

I have always felt there are 3 sides to the success of fishing I have posted that before. It all comes down to being in the right place at the right time doing it the right way. Those things may things seem so easy or so impossible are even a smart aleck reply. I will be the first to say they are not simple at all. It takes paying action to what is happening around you and clearing your mind with with perceived notions, about lure and color.and what folks saying you should be doing. You just learn the patterns and keep a open mind about even assuming those conditions are set in concrete to determine where to find fish. That Is another good way to a skunky day. Currenly here on LOZ crappie are being caught in good numbers right off the bank fishing a jig under a bobber about 2 ft deep at the most. The water temperature in my areas by the is only 43 -45 degrees. Now that would seem to many a fluke. But in fact it is a traditional early season pattern. As far as lures and colors go I would not worry to much about it just and fish what you understand. Over the years I have seen numerous times everyone is saying their biting on something in certain places and many people get in the rut over that. Then sure enough the next day you it comes out people were getting them in different spots and ways.. It is not easy and it takes a lot of practice to develope that third sense. That force is pretty strong with Wrench. We have rarely fished together (We just do not like to fish the same way) One of those outings he starts tell me" wait up there is good one right there" I thought he was wrong because the sport was no different than the rest of the bank that I could see. About 4 cast later he reels in a real nice keeper

Well I was concerned that you might need help defending yourself (your headed that way up there) I think. I kind of thought we could sit there drinking coffee with two pistols at our side and we might look aggressive and intimidating and all that sort of stuff. As far as the Hostas go. I have trimmed my garden of about 100 down to about 40 varieties. Got them all in one bed guarded by 3 motion sensor Sprinklers. Those thing were a lot of work, expense and worry

Five Questions On Crappie Fishing
Old plug replied to David Unnerstall's topic in General Angling Discussion
I got my grandkids coming in for a few days in about a week. I got 4 dozen minnows down there right now. That is the first time I have bought any in a long time myself. When fishing under light at night is about as close as I come to using bait provided Is scooping up those little shad.Past year 2 years I have not had many shad coming in under the light but have swans of those Silver Side minnoiws. I just hate those things. This year I am having a hard time even getting interested in crappie fishing. Seems to be some attitude change that I sure do not like. Both my neighbor and my friend from Kirksville are almost pure crappie fishermen. Must be the health stuff this past 2 years and my 78 yrs catching up. Truly it is a very scary thing to be loosing any interest in fishing. I just get tired and bored real fast. I hope to go Bass fishing in the next day or so but am not at all that excited about it. -
I posted the above topic day before yesterday it seems to have been blocked from the site. i did see it on LOZ thread then it disappeared off there

I was up in Laurie at Ozark outfitters. Ed has put up a memorial for Guido Hidden who just died very recently. Never seen anything mentioning it on here . It is back now.I could not find it anywhere

I though I suggested you to put one pump in the pellet pistol and carry in around the house for all these shenanigans. I thought I informed both you and SHE of this.

After reading the above. I got to tell you, if your for real your not going to impress anyone with your ability to handle large fish on Large rods with very heavy line. You also.should be careful about telling folks a lot of your rods get snatched away by these big powerful fish. it sort of makes you look very amateurish. My son has caught a couple of 100 lb sharks fishing off the beach in Florida on 30 lb test. He may well had 300. yrd out before the battle was over but he worked the fish. I do not think you know what that means. I would advise you not to think for a minute your going to educate many on here in the art of Carp fishing. either. I am pretty sure most of them have been there and done that many years ago with anything you can tell them. They are what I call real fishermen. They are going to fish come He-- or high water for whatever there's to fish for. They have been driven to fish by some mysterious force ever since they were very young and discovered water and the fish there in. So be careful when addressing these guys. -

I will be surprised if I do not hook into a tough fighting fish this spring before I make about dozen or so cast with a jig. A drum at this time of the year they fight like a bass and it can confuse you. I have caught them well over 5 lbs in this lake and have seen some real masters come out of the Mississippi River. In this cold water they are as tough aa anything else. -

AL had no idea you were SE Mo lake fisherman. I cut a lot of my fishing teeth in that area. At one time My cousins daughter and her husband owned Choina landing on Wappapello. John Earnie who owned Webb Creek boat dock on Clearwater was also a personal friend. Everyone from the area I knew is fishing in the clouds or some fiery lake. Like I have said before I use almost totally 12lb Pro bass mono. only reason for that is abrasion. I really do not cotton to the notion you need a a real heavy rod and heavy line to land Big fish As a matter of fact. I about bet there is nothing in LOZ lake that can be landed on 6-8 lb test line barring any toothy creature, then just add a leader is all. I caught a 47lb Blue on 10 lb test. And believe it or not it was a deliberate attempt. I knew about this hump and there were big cat on it in the evening.I used a 7 " shad for bait. I got a lot of satisfaction from that. This last summer My neighbor and fishing friend caught a 71/2 lb Hybrid on a 4 lb test crappie outfit. That thing must have made 5or 6 good runs. We had him almost to the net twice and he turned and stripped 20 ft of line off the reel. My neighbor enjoyed it so much he fishes like that all the time for them. Reason I do not is that I do not have the pocket money he has to replace a lot of spoons lost from bouncing off the bottom. Below is a picture of my young son battling a big carp in that same area you fished on Clearwater. When they come in on warm spring afternoons that area are couple pictures of my young son fishing for carp one day with us in that area. He learned about fishing heavy fish on light line and does it to this day catching sharks on light line every year down on vacation in Fla. I insisted very early that he learn how to play with the fishies. Win or loose. If something big gets off on me now days I feel more like congratulating the fish that becoming upset about it getting away. -
I still fish them Seth but not with heavy jigs but much as with creature baits.and Plastic worms. Even with Jigs it go as light as I can. I try to use a weight that I can so that I can work them thru the brush as naturally as I can. I use a 1/4 oz on the big worms Like the Kreit worm. I do have one outfit with 20 lb braid and also 10lb braid on my crappie outfits. Because of the shoulders they wear out very fast flipping and pitching docks. The past couple of years I have been mostly dropping from shot straight down into spots around docks. Works pretty well for me

After living on the shore of this lake for over 25 years. Whatever works for you. Good luck and hope you have a good safe boat. If you never been here you seen anything like LOZ on a nice boating weekend.

Surprised Murry is still up there. He was a customer of my sons before he started property management of industrial and commercial property. -
Be old and having old ways I use 12lb all the time. There is nothing in LOZ that issuing to get off of 12lb line unless it has teeth. Whit catfish and gar I sometimes use a leader. But if a real good one gets away its does not bother me in the least.

Yeah wrench that was something. There were also 3 ft high Whitecaps coming down the Gravois main channel. -
I hope your tournament is not this weekend. Most of the day the winds been howling on the Gravois and I guess most of the rest of the lake. Al,moss 4pm and the temperature is 35 degrees with 3 short periods of large snow flakes blowing sideways. Going to maybe take a bit of time to recover from this.

Cloudy to dingy. With the high wind today is not going to be improving much. I know someone who was back in Cedar creek yesterday and it was not any better. I have a notion that clear water back in soap was influenced by incoming after down the creek

I myself find nothing wrong with dirty water. I think the dirty water poor fishing thing is more a part of your outlook and how it reflect your head.
