I agree with you Mitch. The shear expance of the water is enough in its own. Lets take water temperature as a example. In the rivers it is pretty much uniform. On lakes for what its worrh they are considered overiding reason by many of where and what to fish with. Water temperatures on lake are not constant and even in one spot or bank can vary throughout the day. knowled of this and the things that effect those temperature variances will make all the differance in the world.

I got a big Gen Aid that I do not think is ever going to wear out. I have neighbors though that own pellet BBQ's to me that is the only way to go.

You said a mouthful that time. But a lot of these people on here cannot take the time from earning a living or raising a family to grasp full implications of what you just said. These thing can be lectured and taught but only with dedicated experience will anyone know them.

I do not understand all that. All I know is if were going to get a feeeze and I have plNt allready coming out I better cover them with something. I figured it was heat from the earth because there is sweat on the inside of the plastic now and then the next morning but the frost is on the top of the plastic. even if the frost is covering the area of a plant the plastic prevents it from doing any damage.

I was out Wednesday afternoon for about 3 hrs on LOZ and caught 5 keepers on a wacky worm. Should have been 8. I was not getting a real good feel and the shoulder does not set the hook as snappy right now. 3 were 15" are a bit more and one over 16" and one over 17". The ones I lost were every bit as large as those last two. I think it was my fault but sometimes the fish will twist that hook flat against the worm body and you wind up driving the hook straight down the center of the worm. I think though it was mostly my fault. If you was up in the gravois Champ you might have seen me. I fished from Indian creek down to cedar point where my home is. chased the shade areas the whole time I was out. Tooooo windy today But I hop to hit it tomorrow afternoon. Got grandkids this weekend.

Questions remain over handcuffed man drowning
Old plug replied to Brian Jones's topic in Conservation Issues
No its no funny. They took all the patrolmen off the water and put them on the roads. Nixon did that partly from pressure from all the bar owners down here. They were all in a tizzy claiming the patrol was hurting there business. I remember when the bars were to close at dark. Greedy bussiness said "how unfair we are not open all year and deserve the right to make more money" So they gave they longer to stay open and all they did was jack up prices and complain they are getting harressed. I am going to spend more than $200 on bagged concrete to repair my seawall this year. Was the worst damage ever. I have no sympathy for any boaters. 25 years ago people were shooting at boats. With the country where it is now and the attitude plus of every type of Hy powered( including sniper rifles ) rifles being sold anything might happen this year. I can just picture people blowing holes in boats from 3/4 of a mile away. And not making much noise doing so. -
Well the state paid but that smart a-- little officiers has not yet. He will. He was not liked in this community all the way back to when he was a cop in Laurie. Real superior acting smart mouth type.

Mitch your uncle was infantry. If he got his Bronze Star in the field he was entitled to a second one that the goverment awarded to anyone having earned the Combat infantrymans badge or Combat medical badge. I am always curious about if people got their Olk Leaf Cluster for that. It was never widely announced evidently. Through out the 60's and 70's I and others must have ordered thousands of them for people. My uncle never kept one thing from all hs service. He was in everything from Africa to the Army of Ocupation after the war. He was single and a bg bear of a man. When the war ended they sent those home first who had been n combat the logest. He was 2nd in his division in returning home points but kept giving it to married guys. I offered to get hm a full set of his awards and decorations one time and he eid not want them as a reminder around the house., I finally ordered a set for my aunt after he died. He was a loner and did not come around for family get togethers and such. He has always been a hero to me.

Frost Wrench. Its hot the cold it is the ice. I am sure the good lady of the house over there knows about it. Most that just applies to spring plants but some cannot be permitted to leave their dormant state and in that case the deal is to keep them cold until the weather settles down in the apring.

MY uncle never would talk about it either. Most of those vets after going through months and years of combat do not talk or want to be reminded of it. I only had two others in service at that tine. A uncle that server in WWI and was drafted into ww2. They finally discharged him becaise of age. A cousin that was a B29 pilot and was scheduled to leave for the push on Japan when the war ended. If I recall correctly they establisged the USAF I THINK in 1948. Not sure anymore. It amazes me some of this stuff I can remember but forget where I left my false teeth in minutes. l

I never lost anyone in WW2.But iwhen your job is to serve those veterans it should be taken a lot more serious than it was by many people where I worked. Many admistrative mistakes took place with things like awarding of purple hearts, lost recomendations for awards etc. Everyone who worked in that place should have taken it as a personal obligation to try to correct those things. But they did not. They were to busy being beurocrats.

wrench I sold my down riggers to John this morning. As much of a troller as he is I think he is going to get some good use out of them. he has a good read on these hybrids and strippers.

We rarely get a little when it comes to deer. We are semi rural out here and the buggers are about tame and have a very fruitful sex life. If they come in it might be as many as ten not 1 or 2. Then we have our share of 2 legged dears that love Bambi and regard me as a male villian. The worst one of these is the widow next door.

There is not many of those guys left Ness. My uncle was in the buldge. He won a Silver Star there. He went to relieve the Bulge with Pattons Army. He joined the Army in 39 got caught in WW11 in europe and never got home again till 46. I was very fortunate in My lifes work to have access to just about anything I wanted or needed that had to do with WW 1 WW2 and Korea. I lived that history for close to 40 yrs. I have been through the records of all the 5 star generals. Also had 14 file cabinets filled with everything from chunks of wood to pieces of cardboard and what have you that constituted the diaries of American POWs interned in the Philippines. I used to spend my break time reading those things sometimes. After the fire they moved them to the national archives in Washinton. I helped with that too I slid them down 3 stories of escalators by myself one at a time because there was no electric power. The fire departments would not let it be turned on since they were still in the building putting out re-flashes. Was a very humbeling experience to see those things Other than that the place was mostly a civil service type dump.

Have any of you ever tried sprinklers. Not just your regular type but Like the one in the picture. I have a Hosta bed overall covers about 75 x10. These sprinklers rotate very fast hit hard and make more noise than your normal types. Believe me Deer will come a long ways for Hosta plants. They hate these sprinklers. I have not had a plant damaged behind the protection of the two I have for 2 years. I would rhink if your garden is fairly compact these would work fine. My hosta bed sit in front of a 7 ft high stone wall.I have two because the sensing sye does not cover 360 degrees. These sprinklers will detect and sprinkle out to 60 ft.

Bull Shoals 10 lber Eats Shiner From Hand
Old plug replied to MOsmallies's topic in Lower Bull Shoals
I only faintly remember John training one to do that. Inforgot that. I knew John Earnie well. Fished crappie with him several tines. I do not know if you ever seen that crappie pole he kept down there on the dock. Big yellow fiberglass thing. it was 9 ft long. I made that rod and two others. One for myself and another for a friend named Mel Janis. Those 3 rods were made in the mid 70's years before the crappie poles ever came along. John wanted something he could cast a minnow and cork with when the minnow was 4-5 ft below the cork. John was a very good fisherman. I learned a few tricks from him. Best one was making the right disturbance on the suface of the water near the crappie bed. I still do that today. John did it with his hand swishing it on the surface of thr water. I use my rod tip to do about the same. Sometimes it will bring crappie out of the bed on a feeding spree. -
I want to take the time and congradulate you Richy. I admire you doing it your way. You show me you fully understand your swim baits backwards and forwards. Those is a marks of a fine knowlegable fisherman. I wish you much happiness and luck in the future.

I am going to be netting some more shad next week. I do not take many. Maybe 20. Looking for some about 3 inches. going to use them on a spoon for hybrids. Hooe it works better than last time.

I sure would not worry about it Vernon. I do not think the Gd put the fishes on the planet to be abused as they are in tournaments. Or to generate all the cost bearing things that fishing has come to do. When it comes to the point where people will break their bank account to buy fishing things I cannot susport it.
