Have seen them surfacing mornings and eves over deep water off the flats. Been catching a few tossing a spoon in when they come up but have not really been after them yet. Have seen others chasing them around and catching a few each rise-I am too lazy. I think Wrench has the right idea as the skinny water is cooler. Mike

Nice white! That's the size striper I've been catching this year - all in that same year/class. May want to upgrade the fly tackle in a couple years as those fish will be a bit more of a hand full. I'm looking forward to it. Mike

I trolled for crappie for a few hours sat afternoon pulling cranks in a creek arm; caught 19 with 15 good fish(10 - 14") with some coming out of the channel at 30' and others suspended above at 12'. Went out this morning and it was a lot slower but picked up 7 good ones before I had to pack up and head home - had one bite above 30' and that was in the fog and the only one I had before it burned off. Open water fish were scattered and deep but there were quite a few whites busting on top in the fog - caught a few pitching a 1/4 clown spoon into them. It should be getting better daily. Mike

Love LOZ, fantastic fishery. Was not and will not be on the water Shootout or Labor Day weekend. I tend to look at things the same as some others above do - if someone is there first, I move on to other water. That is the way most others behave when the situation is reversed but obviously that is not a universal rule - especially on BBB weekends. I typically avoid those too or strictly fish open water... How about bubble in grease? One has a hard time "legally" keeping enough crappie when they are on the banks to last through when they aren't.....but of course I enjoy crappie or walleye for a meal on a regular basis, not everyone does. Mike

I watched some of those guys shooting during the crappie masters event earlier in the year and it was pretty impressive. I might have to stink it up a little learning that technique this fall....seemed the farther back under they got it, the bigger the slab. I've got a glass rod that should work.. Mike

I agree, although I do get out there amongst them and fish during summer. At times my back hurts after a day rocking and rolling, but the fish are probably even more catchable as they get on structure and stay there when the churn is on. Mike

There is - 30 - but it is stilly plenty fast if you want to attempt an alternative dry dock of your boat. I have seen MSHP prop cops taking radar at sunset on multiple occasions in my neck of the woods. I have no doubt with the congestion that the lower speed limit has helped save lives, but at the end of the day you can't fix stupid. Mike

That happens to me with whites and blue cat all the time - stripers and walleye always in the mouth. You think you have a giant fish hooked until you realize it is another foul hooked. I think they may hit it first to stun and the second to eat sometimes. Either that, or they are just blind.... Mike

I use the OR 12s for everything; I have seen others use the minis for crappie to great effect with tube jigs and smaller baits behind them. To be honest, my best crappie crank baits have always been a UV pink or orange Wiggle Wart and I'm not sure how the minis would handle them. Mike
