They’ve been around a long time. I called one in about 30 years ago while turkey hunting on the bluffs/pastures along the Osage outside of Linn, MO. Both of us were startled when we recognized the other, and we each quickly went our separate ways. Once that cat realized I was bipedal, he was gone. Folks back then told me I was mistaken, there were no lions in MO .……..sure thing, if you say so. Mike

A cautionary tale. Warning (very graphic photo)

I’ve been known to do the “f” dance for considerably less than either one of those. Thank the good Lord for talented physicians and medical advancements! Mike -
The high desert is one of my favorite ecosystems…besides the elk and other critters, the weather just over the divide on the west slope is so very different than the flatlands. I guess that explains the crazy real estate values….. Mike

The reality is it’s no different than any other sight fishing; I’m thinking you were doing that last weekend. Fish can be frustrating, no matter how you look at them….but to get them to BITE! Mike

I’m not a FFS basher, I have it and understand it is just a tool. Mike

I would agree…have done this and had a blast. There are VRBO houses along the coast that allow easy access to the inlet as well as the Kenia and Kasilov for salmon. I recommend drifting the Kasilov, it is a much better experience than the Kenai ⭕️. Mike

FFS to be banned in tournaments.

Honestly, I believe the NPFL has just done themselves a disservice….they really weren’t a major draw to begin with, and this will likely not help. I will also go out on a limb and say that the same names that did well under current rules will continue to populate the leaderboard should they fish in 2025. Time marches forward, whether we choose to or not. Mike -
My FIL lives up in the Poconos and bear hunts; according to him there are “pig” bears and “dog” bears and the latter are not much good eating while the former are delicious. Apparently “pig” bears are more vegetarian, and according to him, can be identified by a shorter and blunter snout. I wouldn’t know, but I been told…. Mike

Winterizing motors question.
nomolites replied to Daryk Campbell Sr's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I would top off/check the lower unit lube to ensure no water is present, and run any gas out of the carb, and ensure all water is drained from the cooling system or just store vertically. Outboards require much less attention for overwintering than IO or inboard engines. Mike -
It will help, but depending on wear in a continuous rain there will likely still be seepage. I ended up buying a new pair of camo rain gear and use the retreated stuff(original Cabela’s Lifetime) for situations where I know it’s going to be get abused. I retreated my Guidewear, which was not yet leaking, and it seems to have refreshed them very nicely. Mike

Rick’s recommendations are solid; Gioia’s is worth the trip - can’t think of anywhere that can beat them. The original is down on The Hill and if you venture there you will be surrounded by great Italian food. Looks like they have a couple outlet locations closer to where you will be as well. Mike

Any spot lock gurus on here?

I run the 24v, and mine drifts a bit as well in a swell(LOZ) or in wind gusts, but will always work back to the WP. I have noticed it seems to be because it ramps slowly - I’m assuming in part to keep from tossing my fat butt out of the boat, so I am OK with that as long as I am not to near a dock or very shallow water. *****2024 BASS Ozark Anglers Fantasy Fishing League*****

Congrats to Swelbo1! In the end Chris J’s big fish bonus sealed the win; I am shocked to even have been in contention, the last events results were more in keeping with my previous track record. I enjoy participating, thanks to a abkeenan for running the group! Mike -

Nor am I, this one will likely be my undoing. Luck will only take you so far…lol. Mike -
Either way, it’s a gas.

Must be the lack of a reaction…. Mike

My sympathies on losing your pup. Mike

I fought the Belle Chase traffic to and from Venice in March; thankfully it was once each way as we stayed at the Marina for the week. That is some absolute craziness with all those workers down there…. Mike

For a corded knife the American Angler can’t be beat, but they are pricy now as I replaced my original a year or two ago(motor burned up after after thousands of fish). I have the Rapala lithium cordless with the multiple length blades and two batteries for travel and it is an excellent knife, both in battery life and cutting performance. I currently have a NOCO Geniusonboard charger that has been OK, I had a lot of problems with the previous unit(promariner). Mike

I had one snatch a squirrel right below me while bow hunting; never heard or saw the cat until he pounced - pretty impressive display and I’m glad I was on hand for the lesson. Mike

Tornado damage and kid's fishing day at Norfork Dam
nomolites replied to netboy's topic in Norfork Tailwater
Wow. Thanks for sharing, and paying your love for fishing forward! Mike -
No, maybe because mine have decent noise cancelling. I only get distortion if I am in a really strong wing like in a boat and running hard. I really hate to take them out when I fish, but have demonstrated beyond doubt that I am too clumsy these days and I will lose one or both eventually if I don’t. Mike

Very nice! I managed to lose a hearing aid in a fast moving section of the Upper Current a couple years ago…it hit the water and was gone. Fortunately, I was allowed one insured freebie. In addition to that, I’ve had a close call or two - I take them out when fishing now. Next time through that area I am going to have to plan a few stops. Thanks for sharing! Mike

Do it. Time’s a wasting…. Mike
