  1. There's been plenty of Robins around this area of LOZ lately. Had hundreds this morning. We have not had Pelicans this fall or winter, kinda unusual.
  2. I really like a Shimano Calcutta for that type of application. Be alert with the strippers, they can take all you got.
  3. The term Swimbait confuses me. You talking 6" baits that weigh ounces or Kaitech 3" baits?
  4. Will the Eagle Rock campground be open then? If not, which resort or campground is close and good?
  5. We went out on a Marlin trip out of Okracoke, NC. That trip was $375 per person, plus your expected to tip the first mate generously. We caught a limit of Mahi Mahi and you are required to have the official Union fish cleaner prep your catch. It cost 80 bucks to have 2 limits cleaned. We did land a Marlin, about 300# which was released to fight again. I'd definitely do it again.
  6. I'm building 3 on a Rainshadow REVS610 ML XF blank. One is done and I am really pleased. For a store bought rod I hear alot of good reviews on the St Crois Avid series, in ML XF or M XF
  7. We had a rise up here that changed things around. I was gone fishing Taneycomo over the weekend, so didn't get to see the most flow. Several trees and log jams have washed in and appear to be new permanent fixtures. I watched the neighbor today try to move a rootwad out of the channel with no luck. It ended up much closer to his dock. In my opinion you just gotta go with the flow.
  8. Buy now pay later.
  9. A square back canoe is great for that purpose too. I used to have one, wish I still did.
  10. I'd like another 3, and the seat moved forward enough to accomodate a 5" straight grip. Gay or not he wants the reel seat moved.
  11. I'd use a Dremel and cutoff and scrap the handle and reel seat. Go back with new installed from the bottom, using tape or split arbors to make up diameter differences. New parts would be about $25 per rod if you go with good cork handles. It's more than a 2 beer project, more like a 12 pack.
  12. I think it's gonna float. I put about 10'-15' in the water (No Weight) to remove a bit of twist and it just laid on top, didn't even get wet.
  13. I mostly filled the spool with 6# mono backer, then about 75 yards of the 4# Nanobraid tied on with an Alberto. The knot wasn't to difficult except for the limpness of the braid. It seemed to hold very well. The braid is almost impossible for me to see, so a leader probably won't be necessary. I'll test it out next week at Taney and post a review.
  14. I will spool it up and give it a try, I''ll use some 4# Maxima for leader if I can tie it. They make that Nanobraid down to 1# test, .001" diameter. That would be really interesting to knot.
  15. Just finishing up a new rod for Crappie and maybe trout. Watching epoxy dry. Bought a Daiwa BG 1500 to use. The line I bought is Suffix Nanobraid 4# https://www.rapala.com/sufix/braid/nanobraid/nanobraid/NanoBraid.html and it's only .003" diameter. Should I use a leader for trout and how would you tie line that thin? Or should I just save that line and spool it with Maxima 4# Ultragreen?
  16. I've read the whole post, and everyone's opinions' have valid points. It just reminds me of late night gravel bar conversations when there was abundant alcohol and good weed or even psychedelics. Some of you may have been there. LOL.
  17. Still trying to decide. I'm already booked with my brother in law for the following weekend, thinking about making it a week.
  18. Caught a smallie on the lake yesterday, maybe some do move down out of the river or creeks to warmer deeper water.
  19. Neighbors garage burned yesterday, including his truck and Corvette. Which of you firebugs did that?
  20. The wind hit here about 7:40, blew a canoe off the dock and rolled the pergola swing, paddle boat on the swim deck almost went onto the fishing boat.. Beware to the east.
  21. Here on the Niangua it's like a private lake. I've only seen a couple boats in the last week. Water temp yesterday around 44 but the catching is good for both bass and crappie. My 5 best bass would have went arourd 15# in 3 hours fishing. Sunday we had a crappie dinner with the evening catch.
  22. With the holidays coming, it would make a great gift for a child or grandchild. My son got one as a gift from my father when he was about 14, he's over 40 now so has saved what? about $300 plus never having to hassle with buying. He has a nice brass card and some conservation officers mentioned it's the first one they've seen. So grampa buy that kid one.
  23. I've never caught a decent bass off that bluff, but they sure liked it. It's really more of a walleye hole.
  24. Went out walking the dog this morning about 8:30 and 3 of their boats were fishing the Tonka area. One in the spring cove, one on the downstream point and another across the lake just upstream. He then left and went up river. I could hear the guy on the point tell his ref and camera guy to bundle up for a long run. About 3 in the afternoon 2 fishing boats and a camera boat were back both fishing the bluff wall just downstream of the spring cove. I decided to go out and watch for a bit but only saw a couple of dinks caught. It appeared the boat I followed was using a jerkbait, a squarebill and a jig or chatterbait. When they headed back to Larry Gale I followed about a half mile back, those Z18 Nitros are either slow or they weren't in a hurry. My 1988 Stratos (Thanks to help from Wrench) was able to easily keep up. Nothing going on at the ramp, they pulled em out and took off.
