  1. Came out of the woods to an ice parking lot. Set me bow on roof while I got me gear in the vehicle without falling. Picked up my bow off the street about a half mile away. It slid off only when I made a sharp turn. Couple scratches but I've used it ever since.
  2. They did it twice 🤣. Just had Livie watch that movie for the first time. I laugh through the whole thing. One of my favorites for sure!
  3. It's a crested blenny. I still need to catch the striped blenny that Livie caught previously and now she needs this one.

    What's Cooking?

Looks delicious but I am a sucker for braised meats😉. Recently had a braised pork shoulder. Rubbed with garlic powder, Asian five spice, smoked paprika, and brown sugar. Browned then braised in white wine, vegetable stock, onions and garlic cloves. After two hours tossed in sauerkraut and caraway seeds cooked another 35 mins. Fall of the bone tender.
  5. Awesome. One year we rented Fletch at our fraternity and watched almost non stop for a month. Every brother almost know the entire dialog by heart. In fact on Sat someone started a group text by quoting a line from the movie and so on. Soon after this scene he stated that he would go into the bedroom and fill her in. Good times. Love that movie still.
  6. I didn't know that when I went out with my daughter to fish the salt that we would encounter something so horrifying that I have to still calm my nerves! We began the day at 5:50 am heading towards the beach. We were trying to hit the high tide at 10 am. It was a beautiful morning that was not disturbed by any solid bites. Our baits would get stripped and we were just feeding the denizens of the surf. After 11:30 am we decided to get lunch and head to back into MD and fish a city pier to try to turn our luck around. The tide was falling and the heavy current made it hard to keep out baits near the bottom and too heavy a weight was just going to get hung in the rocks. Even with lighter weights we lost a lot of tackle to the angry rocks below. Or were they rocks?!? Caught a couple of small black sea bass and our mood was lightened. I then got a tug and landed a seemingly benign fish that hid it's darker self. It was not until I removed the hook that this fish showed its horrifying true colors as it attempted to sink it's saber like canines into my unsuspecting flesh !!! Fortunately my reflexes were still sharp and it's bite was slow that I was able to avoid any serious damage. It also helped that this fish was only 3 inches in length and firmly in my grasp . I did catch two and Livie tried but could not catch one herself.
  7. That's a lot of worm on a size 30 hook
  8. Photo heavy post The solitude and scenery. figuring out where the fish are and that encounter when you get things right. Along with the memories of each trip. Family and friends sharing in the experiences and making lasting memories. The research to find our quarry, the thrill of the chase, the reading of the water, choosing the baits, the presentation, the anticipation, the strike, the fight, the success or loss, figuring out how this encounter will make me a better fisherman, and sharing those memories.
  9. No just the mythology of the catch and fight!

    What's Cooking?

Mitch I would prefer 1.25 to 1.5". I cut my venison steaks to 1.5. Allows me to get a great sear and keep the center closer to rare.
  12. I prefer to cook them still in the pod with a little white wine until they pop. Then mix them into a vegetable ragu🙃 Ok maybe not🤣
  13. @Quillback i have tried similar gar baits that @BilletHead gave me when I fished Mingo. Had 7 hit but couldn't land one. I didn't let them get as wrapped as this guy was talking about. So I just pulled it out of their mouths. Have to try again👍
  14. Sorry to hear that, but you guys have been catching some beauties for sure. Also for the most part 2020 has sucked!
  15. Nice gorgeous brown trout! How many lunkers have you caught this year? If I only lived closer .
  16. That sounds like a great time for sure! I can't wait to be that granddad myself. Probably a couple of years off from now until our granddaughter can reel in a fish. There is always hope that maybe we can even get her dad to like fishing . You can see how excited he was with his first salmon.
  17. I believe that I may have caught the smallest mahi on hook and line. It was about 10 inches in length, my first pelagic microfish .
  18. Congrats on the awesome Mahi buddy! Sea lions are bears of the sea.
  19. … And it's not just fishermen in boats. Many times while fishing from the bank at the trout parks have had wade fishermen walk in front of me through the run that I was casting into. The worse ones are when they have their kids in tow and continuing to teach bad behavior.
  20. Congrats @Lloyd and welcome to the Ozarks fisheries. I also fished a lot of lakes an ponds in the Northeast as I grew up (and am again back out that way) and found that the Ozark creeks and rivers have so much more to offer than what I have done in the past and am able to do now. I have said to a few folks that I fished in the past but became a fisherman in Missouri. Expand your travels and you will continue to be amazed at the fishing opportunities. Can't wait to see more successful (and even if they are not successful) trip reports.
  21. Sharks are such a cool fish! With our failed offshore outing, I think that I missed my window to catch two species of shark including a dogfish this year. Dogfish stay local year round so I still have a chance to partially meet my 2020 goal.
  22. That's when I think about tying on a 4 oz lead sinker and casting into his boat !
  23. Its those dam microfish !
