  1. My betterhalf has talked about ziplining for the last few years. So this year for her latest birthday (won't say how old she is, but only a single digit using Roman numerals and it's not C or M), we finally got her out to a zipline course in New Florence, MO (Eco Adventure Zipline). Of course Livie and I had to go along for support ! Since we are novice 'liners' we signed up for their Soaring Six course with the option to expand after the first four lines to the full ten line course. Just a nominal cost to do the full ten. So after thinking that we have this ziplining deal down we opted to go all in for the Treetop Flyer zipline adventure package. Their course traverses a couple of deep ravines. The one line goes over a 245 foot drop. We got up to speeds of 30 to 40 mph. Livie is a bit of a daredevil. So she fit right in. we even mentioned that she might have like a line that travelled through a flaming hoop! We had a great time! We may have to come back at the end of Sept for our 22nd anniversary. I'll post the videos we can get them in a format that I can link to this post.

    What's Cooking?

Tonight wanted burgers. Mixed 85/15% chuck ground beef with garlic powder, montreal seasonings, dried basil, tablespoon or two of red wine and worchestershire sauce, raw egg, bread crumbs. cooked to medium then melted on the swiss cheese. When the cheese melted put it on a sesame seed bun with mayo, sliced onion, pickle, and tomato (one of the multicolored yellow and red heirlooms). No Pictures - sorry.
  3. I never liked Blondie's attempt at rap with Rapture. "Cause the man from Mars stopped eatin' cars and eatin' bars. And now he only eats guitars, get up!" YIKES!
  4. Mitch - I had forgotten about seeing this video. Thanks for Posting ?!??! Wasn't this song the basis for that animated film with Johnny Depp - Rango?
  5. I saw a couple of basketball sized bryozoan colonies in little Dixie back in June.
  6. How about obscure movies starring famous actors but outside of their typical genre? Here's a few of my favorites. Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin in a musical comedy where both have singing parts - Paint your Wagon. John Wayne in Africa as a an animal collector for zoos - Hatari! Gene Hackman as the blind hermit in a spoof horror film - Young Frankenstein
  7. Richard Harris' rendition (or for that matter any rendition) of MacArthur Park! "..And I will never have that recipe again! OH NOOOO!!!"
  8. That's a great cake. Happy B-day Aubree! Dprice thanks for sharing this with us.
  9. My betterhalf couldn't decide so went with their $5 flight. Boone County Brown ale, Crème de la Hops, their new Armadillo pale ale, and Big Tree IPA
  10. Hanging out at our local microbrew tap room. I'm having their Route 63 Ale (they call it a PilsNEAR). They have stated that this brew can be considered a gateway brew to more complex microbrews. Nice refreshing ale. Also pretty inexpensive - $2 per glass.
  11. Some great fish! Your boys will certainly remember that trip! Great job!
  12. Good luck Griz. We'll be thinking of you.
  13. Great job guys! I fish those types of creeks and need to try out the small craw!
  14. I have always wanted to fish with those baits. I have never made any. They look like a tangle for the toothy fish!
  15. Don't show that to my wife or else it will end up hanging in our house☺!
  16. I had always thought that the orange flocculent areas were patches of iron oxidizing bacteria.
  17. Great way to start the week! Congrats on a great trip boating smallies!
  18. Norm Glad to see you get out on the river. Sounds like a great trip! Would love a day catching 12 to 19 inch smallies! Also very informative. Your reports always give us some idea what you were thinking on the baits that you were using and how you were fishing them.

    What's Cooking?

Okay now to add another day's worth of calories. Layered cake, muffin, banana foster, puddings, etc.
  20. Let's see I prefer Indycar and F1 over NASCAR, wine or craft beer over Budweiser, and would fish a drainage ditch with a thread and safety pin loaded up with a nightcrawler ! I must be some kind of snob, just not sure what kind!

    What's Cooking?

Tonight was a birthday dinner for my betterhalf. It's a pretty heavy meal for summer, but its something that she wanted. So it was wagyu / angus beef shank osso bucco with mushroom risotto. I picked up the beef at the farmer's market. I dredged the beef in seasoned flour and browned both sides in a dutch oven. I pulled out the browned meat and added cut carrots, onions, celery, and minced garlic to the dutch oven and cooked several minutes until tender. Then added a cup of red wine (Pine Ridge Petit Verdot) and deglazed the oven and let it simmer a bit. Then added diced stewed tomatoes and chicken stock. I cooked this at 325 deg oven for almost three hours. During the last 40 minutes of the cooking I made the risotto. I picked up oyster mushrooms at the farmer's market and found maitake mushrooms at one of our Hyvee stores. I sauted the mushrooms along with diced onion and minced garlic. Once the onions were translucent I removed them from the pan. I added butter and browned the rice, then added a cup of pinot grigio. While that was going on I made a mushroom stock using the stems of the mushrooms and dried porcinis in chicken stock. Once the wine was adsorbed by the rice, I added about 1/2 cup of the mushroom stock. Risotto is a labor of love. Add stock and stir, add stock and stir, add stock and stir... Just at the end I added the sauted mushrooms, onion, and garlic along with about a 1/3 cup of parmesan cheese. Here is the plate I made up for my wife. I had a arugula and mixed green lettuce salad and my own cup of the red wine.
  22. Looks like you guys had a great time! Nice crappie! The better she does the more often you get to fish - sounds like a win/win situation to me!

    What's Cooking?

Well the lack of leftovers says a lot on how good they were ! Thanks again for sharing your harvest with the Folly family!
  24. Daryk - great catch. Sure looks like a grass carp to me. Too bad the rain ran you guys off before you son could get a fish himself. I know that the two of you will get back to that pond again.
  25. That's awesome to read. I bet the kid is just looking at the listing of fish and seeing which ones he can catch next. My kind of kid! Looks like there was some flooding in the are where he was fishing.
