So wrench musta been involved?
-
Just noticed it appears to be gone. If that’s the case, why? Those most active on this site know each other well enough to know how the others think/feel. I have seen a few “knock it off guys or this will get shut down” comments the past day or so here. Why? Why sensor the free speech of others on a site that most are either pulling a leg to rile another for a giggle, or are less concerned about those they reply to, so they type just to do so. Instead of repeating the above “…” I mentioned, why is there no place here anymore where you are free to say as you feel, without getting the Brandon treatment?

I sent them “Sturgeon Bay” a message.

Not sure the Missouri conservation dept. has trailer setups like that for use, not that my 5 minute search provided. I have a few guys that are going to test a catch/video/weigh/release outing over the next few months to start preparing for next March. I myself will be doing the same until i cone up with a system I’m comfortable using for a tournament format. Worse case scenario is we do it by length instead of weight. Lots of info online from the yak clubs on the ins and outs of using length.

Was fishing down in Ark. recently and that looks like the same or similar release boat they were using.

My pleasure. Yeah it wasn’t the trip i thought it would be as far as catching, but a good day nonetheless. We did have one good one on tho. Great spending the morning with ya. I’m sure it will happen again soon, with better results. Thanks for tagging along. -
I believe every angler will agree, there are lots of tournaments on every body of boatable water. Do i think it’s excessive currently from a tournament standpoint? Naw, as the reports show a very healthy fish catchable population, no matter the species. One thing that is in favor of the fish is they are adaptive and do change with pressure. When that happens, it leaves guys like me scratching my head and coming to the scales with few if any fish. Don’t underestimate these fine creatures. BUT, before it does get excessive, if it does, our club will take a small step forward to ease some, if any of the stress from not only the fish, but doing the work of a weighin. I have been reading the good and bad of both weight VS length for over a year, to prepare for our club changeover from a buddy bass club, to a solo and to a C/W/R format for 2023. It appears that the length advocates do chat about the challenges of getting the fish to stay on a board long enough to photograph, while most fish flop all about more than once while trying to get that legal photo, causing potential injuries. Whereas to land a fish, hold it in your hand or net, clip the jaws and get a quick weight, then release without ever touching carpet, appears to be easier on most fish, according to comments i read on many different platforms. I have 6 months before our 23’ schedule cones out, along with the new rules, so i will continue to read and learn. There are positive with both styles of recording your catch, one has to be easier/less stress/damage to the fish.

Not sure about that, but the fish app itself does. Lets say you are fishing a 5 fish tournament. The smallest of the 5 gets dropped automatically when you weigh one in bigger.
-
That’s the same unit i carry in my bought currently.

Quill, there actually isn’t any work for the director. That’s all done by the angler. Once uploaded, it’s done.
-
Thanks wrench, but with us going solo, help is out of the equation. It’s actually easy for the tourney director, as when the video is uploaded to the app, it puts everything in order, including weight standings for the day, just like you see with the MLF, including up to minute standings for those in the tournament. Will be going by weight and not inches. That for the yak guys. 😉

As we all know, there has been lots of talk the past few years about the importance of releasing bass as soon as possible for several reasons, especially during the spawn time. With the MLF coming into our homes, that definitely stirred things up with having the resources to do a C/W/R concept on a wide, large scale. In another thread i believe 196champ posted a FB link to Sturgeon Bay Bass Tournament, who uses the C/W/R and video format on a large scale. I read over every post they made regarding their system, the scales used, how they do it in real time, and any drawbacks they have noticed. What i have found, including that of the MLF, is that it takes 2 anglers and or a ref to help with the video part. The problem I’m having is, and maybe some of you can help with a solution, is that starting next season our small club will be going to a solo angler per boat concept, being alone to find a way to C/W/R with the addition of a video showing the fish not assisted in weight, the weight on the scale, and the release. All 3 of those need to be active to make the fish count. The weighing and release are the easier tasks, but to capture the video aspect while fishing alone will be the challenge, but is an important part to keep things uppity up. I run 2 Go-Pros on my boat, so i can accomplish this somewhat easily, but not many guys we fish with have that setup. Maybe a phone holder stuck into a seat base and have it ready to record after landing a fish? Our new format will be anything heavier than 1 pound 6 ounces, with length not important. Any ideas/suggestions? We start our season in March. I will be ordering Brecknell units this winter to be checked out at each tournament, and using the FishDonkey app for anglers to upload video to before resuming fishing.

So after reading this thread, and seeing the same guys commenting negatively about tournaments, anglers who enjoy tournaments, the drafted number of dead fish during a tournament, etc. etc., the same we have read here for years, i spent the past 30 minutes looking at every post made by the FB link posted, and must say, they do have a decent system. Yes, i could see a few twists that i would change with their catch/weigh/video/release, but overall a good system. As a few know, i run a local bass club, and we haul those poor fish around all day, bouncing them off the lids and bottoms, just to let them go in an area they have never been, just to probably die. I mean, our very small club probably kills less fish in a year than an avid fun fisher does due to the care and additive we use to care for the fish, along with the knowledge to do so. BUT, after watching the link, i may just adapt this type of system starting next season. We have several who fish alone, so doing the videoing may be a hurdle we will have to work around.

Dude, this kinda feels like I’m being cheated on. I was going to bring you my boat to wash, but i think i will go elsewhere.

Good job buddy. Tho i have never made my own lure, I’m sure it is gratifying landing one on a lure you made. -
Haha. My brother lives in Denison next to the Chevrolet dealership, sister lives in Sherman, brother lives in Pottsboro. We were all born in Sherman at TMC, grew up in Pottsboro on Texoma. Spent many nights below the dam catching stripers. Largest was when i was 14, in a 14’ jon boat with my older brother. We would net the shad that came over the dam, run up to the cable as close to the gates as you could get, and drift back til you hooked up. Usually less than a minute, then repeat. Biggest for me weighed 21 pounds. Biggie for a 14 year old. Took 20 minutes to land it. Still remember like it was today. Be back there in August.

No problem at all keeping any of those “other” fish. Heck, we may even target some of those just to switch it up. -
Been driving to Texas and back almost 30 years, multiple trips a year “born there and siblings all live there”. Travel down 69/75 and over the Red River at Texoma. I see trucks at the ramps on Eufaula most trips, yet rarely see a boat on the water. Lots of areas you can’t see from the highway, but it does get fished due to the trucks/trailers i see at the ramps.

Hey Carl, i live in the Willard area, and fish Stockton around twice a week. If you get free and want to jump in, let me know. I’m a bass guy 99.9% of the time, so if you don’t mind fishing for bass “they all go back in the water” then let me know and we will get out there.
