OAF group float - James River Sept 21... Who is Going?!?

I was thinking maybe not make it a huge production, maybe like 6 to 8 hrs at the most, everybody bring your own eats, stop on a gravel bar for lunch. We could maybe find a path less traveled, I have some ideas🤔 I guess in the fall they are all less traveled. -
I almost put a screen shot of the map on the post, I figure if people want to know they will either recognize the area as you did or take the time to send a message.

It's not bad now, if the water goes down another 4 inches it might be rough. I was able to paddle up all be two or three places, even then the drag was easy

Group James river float trip organized. The date: 9/21/24 Saturday The time of meeting: 07:00 The place: HL Kerr access James river Mo. Take out: Galena Mo. Cox Memorial Access P.M. me so I can get a total for the shuttle. We will meet, unload at Kerr @ 7am convoy to Galena, get shuttled back to the launch. It's about 4.5 miles of water. If we get bad weather I will cancel it, and try for another day. Bring your own everything. I am looking forward to this, It will be nice to put a face with a name. P.M. me for my phone number if you need it.

Put in somewhere popular, went up stream as I always do. I haven't been on this stretch for 20yrs. There are mink and otter out in the evening. It was nice, I never saw anyone until I took out. Caught a bunch of dinks in holes that should have produced some good ones, this was the best fish of the day. I'm still throwing that zman punch craw, and a #5 shad colored crank.

Sharpshooters to kill 450,000 barred owls

I used to hunt a place near me for rabbit, one year we had early snow, but no rabbit, every single rabbit warren or brush pile had house cat tracks to it and in it. Every cat I saw after that got high speed lead poising or an arrow. FYI hunting rabbits with a recurve is great fun. I can't stand ferule cats, they might all be ferule now that I think about it.🤔 -
Good there is no flat land in stone county 😁

They helped me too, over the phone even, of course I bought parts from them after their advice, and they saved me a bunch, so yes I would go to them.

Bud's bait in joplin and carthage is a falcon dealer. I believe the guy behind the counter told me they go to falcon once a week. They might be able to give you some advice. Pretty good folks there. (417) 499-3350

I'm old enough to have seen it all done it all, I just can't remember it all.

That's ok with me, I've caught some dandies in the fall. No one was around just the way I like it. I you do happen on someone, they are probably like minded

Since COVID happened there has been a big kayak hatch. Late fall and early spring seem to be the best. When cool and people don't want to get wet.
-
Found 6, 14" to 14.5" and a 5 gallon bucket of dinks. Here are a couple examples. I was out of the kayak by 1pm. I was thankful for the slip sinker as they just sucked up the bait, the dinks really smacked it though and had followers many times. All in all, low cost fun, hot weather fishing.

Oh dang it, you told them😉

Spoons are good 😎 If we ever meet I'll give you some.

I guess I don't look at the site enough to know what's going on?? I all look for your post and learn from them, thanks for that. It will be a shame if you stop posting.

They Are Here, Red Eyed Bugs All Over.
dan hufferd replied to jdmidwest's topic in General Angling Discussion
They were all over Stockton yesterday. I remember the first time I ever saw the little bright colored ones, we were in Branson I think it was at least 15 yrs ago maybe more. -
There is a bunch in there all summer, east of EB on the other side on the flat, I think they are always there too
-
It was the first little cut back on the east side if I remember there is a courtesy dock or a slip or something. I remember thinking I was hung on a cable at first , I tried to load a pic but the site wouldn't let me this morning

I hooked a big gar around emerald beach a few years ago, on a spoon. It stayed pinned long enough to get it's head almost in the boat. They are fighters !

Bass out of the wintery deep are excellent !

I thought mudpuppies and hellbenders were the same creature, I think I read in Mo.con. that the hellbender is a sign of healthy water. Either way it's a cool catch
