  1. Campground parking lot had a truck with New York license plates and I spoke with a guy who was from Miami, Florida. Said he comes for a couple weeks and fishes the less crowded winter C&R season.
  2. Hadn't wet a line in a little while so it was good to get away. Susie didn't want to fight the wind and set this trip out. Thanks
  3. Old friend Jerry Pike and I headed to Montauk this morning for a quick day of winter fishing . Fished from 09:30 to 14:00 and had a decent day in spite of the wind. Caught somewhere between 30-35 fish in the campground and missed at least one half that many. Hot fly for me early on was a bead head fox squirrel nymph and an egg pattern for Jerry. Had some fish high in the water column and threw an #18 tan emerger but had trouble keeping any of them on. Did have a 4# brown materialize out of nowhere and track the emerger as I was stripping in. Went back upstream later and never did find it but caught a 5-5 1/2# rainbow later on a peach fur bug. Sorry for no pics but I shut the phone off and left it in the truck for a little relief. A pretty awesome day even with the wind.
  4. Well said ,Alex . Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
  5. I know what you mean. I let my enthusiasm and my desire to still compete get the best of me . I thought I was going to need surgery on my right hip after tearing the labrum 5 years ago. It was giving me a lot of trouble so I scheduled a visit with an orthopedic surgeon. Two weeks before my appointment something popped in my right hip as I was bending over. Evidently some of the cartilage went back in place. At least that's what the Doctor figured. Stay with it only start a little slower?
  6. Can imagine the table talk at the local diner..."I was driving in here this morning and I saw some guy in camo laying on the ground in 10 degree weather. Must be that guy named Marty goose hunting"😀
  7. Prayers for the Mrs. from Susie and I. And congratulations on 43 years married!
  8. And their poor selection of fly tying materials. Little brother bought a rod ,reel and fly line from Piscifun for less than $100 on sale. Can't beat the price for what you get.
  9. Prayers for you family.
  10. 6 1/2-7" in beautiful downtown Desloge.
  11. Enjoy his videos and usually learn something each time.
  12. Me too, Doug. Find myself thinking about calling Rick after each fishing trip.
  13. Lots of good info on this forum.
  14. Yellowstone Angler used to do a wader shootout and had a sizing guide for the various stocking waders. Not sure if they have put out one of their reviews lately. Having several pairs of Simms waders and wading shoes ,I'd try to find a place to try them on. The freestone's that I have are a little wider in the foot than the older G-3's that I have.
  15. Adventuron in Sheboygan Wisconsin has several models of Simms boots on sale starting around $100 up.
  16. I thought my vision was going bad as I missed seeing the fish altogether.
  17. Might be canoodling as much a noodling.

    What's Cooking?

When Marty cleans his plate, he really cleans his plate! Had finished a plate at a restaurant in Cape one time like Marty's plate and the waiter asked "if I was done eating" .
  19. And I thought napping (knapping) was what I occasionally do after a big lunch.
  20. Thinking you might need to make your place a destination place kind of like a smaller version of SDC but with more craft and outdoor adventures Lots of neat projects and works of art. Not sure if Pat would want to wear the old costumes as a friend of mine from high school worked in those old outfits and said they were extremely warm.
  21. Some mighty nice fish!
  22. After tearing the labrum in my right hip several years ago, I'm sure you would be fine!
  23. Nice inserts for fly reel seats.
  24. I'd have to print as my handwriting seems to get worse each year.
  25. My last major attempt ended with me slicing off the end of my left ring finger about 1/2". Was the semifinals of the freshmen basketball tournament and I was probably a little distracted. Didn't get to play that night and I shy away from sharp blades anymore.
