  1. Man you are correct about the snakes. We were trying to fish below the dam one day and struggled with all of the snakes and teenage girls our age sunbathing on the back of the dam.
  2. " No unplanned get offs yet"🤣
  3. The first "fishing trip" I remember wasn't exactly what I thought it would be. My Gpa Tom was raised north of what is now Johnson's Shut -Ins so we would go there on occasion. The men were talking going fishing and me being a 6-7 year old kid thought that we'd get our limited fishing gear at the time and enjoy a family outing. This is going back several years ,but I remember it was strange that nobody had any fishing equipment but had gigs and 22 rifles. I don't recall anyone "catching" anything but do recall one black snake that caught my attention. At that age , the snake looked like a anaconda as it was laying on a limb right above where I was supposed to follow the men on the trail . I hit the brakes only to be questioned by Grandpa as to why I was stopping. I pointed to the snake and he reached up and grabbed the snake and threw it off in the brush. I pretty much stayed in his hip pocket the rest of the day.
  4. I believe you could blow those pictures up, put a frame on them and hang them on a wall. Again you have some great colors on those fish.

    What's Cooking?

We saw their facility a couple years ago when oldest granddaughter was playing in a fastpitch softball tournament in Branson. They had one day that they played in Harrison. That stuff is good on cottage cheese and tomatoes too!

Boring food looked mighty good to me!
  8. Thanks Marty and Pat.
  9. We learned Sunday morning that my oldest granddaughter's boyfriend and one his buddies were killed in a one vehicle accident in Sainte Genevieve County. Not a lot of details but truly devastating for all who knew these young men and loved them. Both were 21 years old with the hope of a future that was promising. We had only been around Landen 4-5 times but he was a perfect gentleman- polite, courteous and just a really good young man. And he treated my granddaughter like a Princess. The last dinner party we had, he got out with the rest of the grandkids and tried some fly casting in our yard. He was a keeper and Elena and all who knew him are heartbroken. Please say a prayer if you believe in the power of prayers for the families. Thanks
  10. That's a great looking brown. Congratulations
  11. Guess that beer has hints of acorns and hickory in its flavor profile?
  12. Susie and I both retired in 2013. Me with 36 years on the railroad and her with 23 years teaching. It has been great with enough fishing and grandkids' programs to keep us busy. Had a couple buddies who went to 70 for reasons known to them. Thinking younger wives and multiple divorces.
  13. I highly recommend retiring! Good for you, bad for the fishes.
  14. After our first teenager dove trip years ago , St.Joe Lead came to that are to do some soil sampling!
  15. Great looking fish, Pete !
  16. And a good pair of polarized sunglasses.
  17. Possibly so. The fish around Hudson's Corner were all over the beetle.
  18. Bet the real story about that gun and how it ended up there is really interesting.

    What's Cooking?

Looks like Marty is gearing up for that world championship squirrel cooking contest in Arkansas. The "ringer" from Missouri!
  20. The last time Susie and I went to Montauk, it was a pretty slow day. We had a shot at a couple decent browns thru the campground section but the size and numbers of fish weren't very good. Old college baseball buddy Jerry P. had called last week wanting to try the park again. Susie is still suffering from tennis elbow and bowed out so it was just the two of us. We hit the fly section around 09:45 yesterday and saw good numbers of fish in various lengths. Fishing was slow initially and we moved gradually downstream from our initial starting point below the "spring hole". As the day warmed up so did the fishing. Jerry started spanking them on a peach fur bug and I started hammering them on a black foam beetle. Neither of us caught any trophies but had a blast fishing 6'6" 3 weights. The water in the fly zone was in pretty good shape with several holes to deep to wade. All in all it was a nice day.
  21. Went to the Missouri state fair years ago. We stayed at Sand Springs Resort so we could get a little fishing in for that weekend. The Bellamy Brothers were the opening act for Alabama who had recently released "Roll On". Susie and I enjoyed the livestock and midway almost as much as the concert.
  22. Old Bosco was show boating one day and when nobody paid attention he left the water . As he walked away, he picked up an empty soda can and tossed it towards the trash can. He missed and walked away only to have a conservation agent stop him. They had been watching him and the agent told Bosco to head to his truck as he was getting a ticket for littering. Bosco said it wasn't his can to which the agent declared it was when you picked it up and threw it on the ground. Guess he got banned from a couple trout parks.
